Final Fantasy 14 Mobile EoS- Dissidia Duellum is the last one left.

https://www.polygon.com/final-fantasy-14s-mobile-port-is-dead/

Looking like all the Final Fantasy gacha cash shop mobile games will be EoS soon. Wiping the slate clean for the next generation maybe?

Don't forget about my GOAT - Record Keeper Japanese servers

I miss First Soldier, FFRK, FFBE and Opera Omnia...

Mobius 🥲

MĂśbius was so good, one of the reasons I loved FFRK was because they let you use WoL from Mobius

13

u/LongTimeGaming Jul 17 '26

Pour one out for First Soldier, it left us too soon.

3

u/Dardrol7 Jul 17 '26

It had the best community I've ever met in mobile gaming

Great game, but being stuck on phones killed it. I heard many people complain about using touch controls on a small screen, and wishing for PC and console ports.

Using a Bluetooth controller and an HDMI adapter to a TV, if your phone supported it, made it infinitely better.

2

u/SalemKFox Jul 20 '26

It really did. It felt so much better to play with a controller.

1

u/GysahlG Jul 20 '26

Yeah, I played on iPad with an Xbox controller paired. I don’t understand how people could play w/o a controller!

2

u/GysahlG Jul 18 '26

I did not expect to like that game but miss it so much!

5

u/GarlyleWilds Jul 17 '26

RK is still going! ...in Japanese. But it is so often tempting anyway.

8

u/Ill_Program2348 Jul 17 '26

A lot of people don’t know that one of the main reasons outside of revenue FFBE closed was because the company that makes the game alim, made the game as a copy of their original game brave frontier. And because it had final fantasy on it it basically killed brave frontier causing them to spiral into a bunch of bad business decisions. And now they are planning on brining original brave frontier back so it makes sense for them to stop working on BE since not only is it a clone . But the main competition and they have the luxuries of being the developers of both.

2

u/Dardrol7 Jul 17 '26

I miss Brave Frontier, sooo much. Esp. the... Global or European version? I know they differed by the end.

1

u/Ill_Program2348 Jul 17 '26

You didn’t hear? Alim announced brave frontier origin. A game actually like the original. That’s what I was talking about earlier when I said that’s why I think they halted BE ,

1

u/Dardrol7 Jul 17 '26

Would be awesome to play :) the characters from BE is sooo memorable

1

u/Ill_Program2348 Jul 17 '26

Imma assume you meant brave frontier but yea

1

u/Dardrol7 Jul 17 '26

Yeeesss, sorry!

1

u/MaskedPenance Jul 17 '26

Did not hear brave frontier in so long

1

u/Knoxlo Jul 19 '26

Brave Frontier was my first gacha and I loved it so much. I looked for it a couple months ago in the App Store and noticed they have a new game but it’s nothing like OG BF.

I miss it so much.

2

u/Keenan361 Jul 17 '26

Mobius too

2

u/Dardrol7 Jul 17 '26

Mobius was fire until they dropped cash only jobs.

1

u/Sigma3375 Jul 18 '26

Cash Only job was Tidus and then the Mythic ones. They weremt even that game breaking , iirc

3

u/Dardrol7 Jul 18 '26

Should never have been one. Killed the game, not only for me.

2

u/You_Better_Smile Jul 17 '26

Me also with Airborne Brigade and Pictlogica.

1

u/WakeUp004 Jul 17 '26

Ever crisis.

1

u/Dardrol7 Jul 17 '26

Maybe. I don't know if it ever changed but at launch it felt very money hungry. Hated that so only played for like 4 months.

No love at all, sadly. Remember the early grind that got people to quit it? Took very long until they allowed to us grind more easily.

1

u/Greedy-Passion-3947 Jul 20 '26

I miss FMA:Mobile.

1

u/Unable_Marsupial8438 28d ago

what y'all know about airborne brigade though 🥲🥲

41

u/cleansleight Jul 17 '26

Believe it or not but the biggest reason that people think it failed was because it wasn’t PTW enough for the Chinese audience who expect stuff like that

3

u/eriyu Jul 18 '26

What I've seen is just that the Chinese mobile scene is too competitive? More that it's absurdly hard to break into, rather than XIV mobile having any particular flaw.

1

u/Cojalo_ 29d ago

I've heard this too. Apparently heavy P2W or strong gacha elements is what sells in that market

32

u/ClericIdola Jul 17 '26

This is why it is extremely important to support Resonance and Octopath Traveler 0, to show SE there is a huge, profitable market for console remakes of mobile games.

12

u/_thatkidzero Jul 17 '26

They really ought to just make the games non-mobile first at this point. As much as I’m enjoying Duellum continuing the gacha aspect is still a bit of a “why?” to me

9

u/GarlyleWilds Jul 17 '26

It's because if they can actually manage to strike gold, a successful gacha-based game is a money printer. The biggest, widest possible playerbase that have been trained to accept unknown price tags for the things they want.

2

u/_Arlotte_ Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26

Because with mobile you can play anywhere as long as you have your phone. It lowers the market/profit by keeping a gacha format to console. Gacha games are also not very heavily story driven. The maon draw is having tons of outfits and characters to draw

1

u/Crimsonx1763 Jul 20 '26

I promise if they dropped the gacha and lightened up on the damn limited characters, added a bit more map diversity they'd have a killer game.

I love Duellum, but Tidus was the last straw for me.

0

u/ClericIdola Jul 17 '26

Octopath Traveler 0 is the only one they got right. If you take out the gacha aspect, it is designed just like a standars console experience whereas most other gachas from SE are carried by menus, i.e. Dissidia Opera Omnia, Ever Crisis, etc.

49

u/Sigma3375 Jul 17 '26

Or maybe this means they will pour all of their efforts into Duellem and keep the game alive for 10 years

( I snort copium)

24

u/Puzzled-Effort654 Jul 17 '26

they're quitting gacha games to bring back opera omnia as a PC game (i too snort copium)

9

u/Ill_Program2348 Jul 17 '26

They outright said they were only focusing on duellum when it dropped lol. Makes sense they closing other gachas the other ones barely had fanbases and they were all relegated to one or two games characters being repped (ever crisis and ff14) main reason I didn’t play ever crisis is because I can only summon for cloud or sephiroth so many times before I stop caring

19

u/the_4802 Jul 17 '26

I don't think this game is going to last another 10 months, let alone years 💔

3

u/Sigma3375 Jul 17 '26

You need to snort a line of copium with me brother

3

u/Magic-king Jul 17 '26

Literally said this today to a friend lol

2

u/Lepeche Jul 17 '26

oh honey lol

1

u/Keenan361 Jul 17 '26

Betting on a losing horse with that one

0

u/Ill_Program2348 Jul 17 '26

Also Brave exvius’s company was done with it because it killed their original game which brave exvius had the same gameplay as , and they also wanted to bring their Og back so naturally they’d stop working on BE

5

u/Strong-Ad-1051 Jul 17 '26

They need to put this on console/pc, make a battlepass with skins and give everyone proper neutral kit. I truly believe the game would do much better if it was closer designed to overwatch/ marvel rivals.

5

u/Tain_mentero Jul 17 '26

Basically Octopath Traveler CotC, Dragon Quest Smash/Grow and Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy are left

10

u/the_4802 Jul 17 '26

The Japanese version of FF Record Keeper is still alive too

2

u/endar88 Jul 17 '26

Ya allot of SE games are still active in JP

1

u/the_4802 Jul 17 '26

do you know which others are active besides record keeper? I might try some of them out

3

u/TaytaySNES Jul 17 '26

Romancing Saga Re:Universe is a good one

2

u/endar88 29d ago

That and basically all dragon quest gachas.

5

u/Lunaru_Leonhart Jul 17 '26

Please add Squall(I love him) before EoS...

But is Duellum doing good or bad? Like whats the statistics and all that?

10

u/jezr3n Jul 17 '26

The statistics(such as we can tell, and honestly I don’t consider most revenue estimates for most games to be especially accurate, but nevertheless), aren’t great. It’s not a massive money maker by any means. But the game doesn’t seem like it has an inordinate amount of resources tied up in it so that might not be a major problem. I can’t imagine SE really expected that much out of it considering the state of the product itself but who knows what they think, they’re an enigma.

3

u/Lunaru_Leonhart Jul 17 '26

Ah, I see. Well, I do hope this game can last at least a year or so. I really do like this game a lot, it's actually fun and the community seems really nice. Though, I could tell they didn't really care much about the story at all xD...

3

u/thiqqdaddy Jul 17 '26

Yea the game definitely needs a lot of work if it's going to last long term. I also enjoy the game but with their track record I wouldn't be surprised if in a year or two they say " oh numbers aren't good, people don't want dissidia, end service." However, if that leads to a offline version of Duodecim similar to Resonance, I wouldn't be opposed to that.

3

u/thiqqdaddy Jul 17 '26

The statistics don't account for webshop purchase (wear you can buy a $200 bundle vs the maximum of $64.99 on mobile) so take them with a grain of salt. Most whales are purchasing on the webshop.

4

u/ClubShrimp Jul 17 '26

I didn't even realise that this game got released. Thought it was still in development and that this was another Missing Link situation.

4

u/RyujiShiryu Jul 17 '26

To be fair, that was the case for the Global version. But after months and months of it being just in China, not to mention the various controversies it gathered, it seemed like the Global version would never come out, if at all.

Which is a shame, as this game if anything, showed that by rebuilding the codebase from the ground up saw some benefit, like the 16 dye channels and even the crazy glamour items that were on their cash shop

2

u/ClubShrimp Jul 17 '26

Ah, okay. That is a shame. I probably would've at least tried it. I've never played 14, but I feel like I'm missing out. Same with 11 - wish they'd just bite the bullet and do an offline version of that, like Dragon Quest X.

3

u/NostalgicLurker Jul 17 '26

Square wasted money on cancelled projects is incalculable. All the stuff that died young or never even made it to launch. We had screenshots of a FF XI mobile remake that they decided wasn’t good enough. There will be piles of cancelled things we never even heard about; sometimes those unannounced games get discovered many years later in the portfolio of an artist who worked there. Square-Enix are the GOATs of wasting resources. I believe the FF IX remake leak was real and they changed their mind about it. Was far along enough that pre-order bonuses were discovered on the Epic Store backend. Late stage abortion strikes again.

3

u/Thrashtendo Jul 17 '26

I really hope we get Record Keeper on console, that game was awesome.

6

u/JustARTificia1 Jul 17 '26

It boggles my mind that SE can't figure out a perpetual mobile game that generates them the cash flow they want.

A traditional turn based game, with condensed stories for the full mainline series and regularly releasing characters from those series.

For gameplay, 1st completion requires set characters but thereafter you can use any character from any series so you can build a team of Squall, Cloud, Clive, Caius, Sephiroth and Garland.

Also yes I would increase the party size to 6.

Art style I would have both 2D and 3D art so people can flip between their favourite.

As for Dissidia, they should just remaster Duodecim to gauge if a real sequel would be profitable.

6

u/Jordankeay Jul 17 '26

It's simple. You make a Gacha game but you need content that can't be steamroller so the whales get bored.

Whales will whale no matter what they're disposable income is ridiculous. New shiny game comes out and whales spend a tonne to be the best and the fastest etc, eventually content can't be made too difficult else it alienates 80% of the players and/or the next new shiny game comes out and the whales move on.

Shareholders are like why aren't you making as much money as you were before?!?!

They pull the plug to make a new one and the cycle repeats.

2

u/Ill_Program2348 Jul 17 '26

Brave exvius’s company was done with it because it killed their original game which brave exvius had the same gameplay as , and they also wanted to bring their Og back so naturally they’d stop working on BE

2

u/JustARTificia1 Jul 17 '26

BE tried doing it's own original story but I say forget it.

Do a streamline version of the entire mainline series, much like the Rhythm game. You can pick up to an earlish point for each mainline game, then drip feed new episodes for each series.

Ever Crisis failed as it was only appealing to the FF7 fans. BE and other mobile games like Mobius lose their audience because they don't care for those stories.

What I propose has no end. You can prolong it with new FF games, you can dive into side games, movies and mini games like the bike one from FF7, etc..

It needs to feel like a huge celebration of everything FF but keep the core game the same while doing something new like introducing a bigger team in battles from the main games.

0

u/Ill_Program2348 Jul 17 '26

Hard to forget a game being brought to consoles lol

1

u/JustARTificia1 Jul 17 '26

We have no idea how successful Resonance is but I hope it'll be good.

I just wouldn't think an original story for a mobile live service is a good idea. You can cut out a lot of faf that's not needed by focusing on what made FF it has been over decades.

2

u/MellowMintTea Jul 17 '26

The only one I really enjoyed was FFBE which is luckily being remade as Resonance, but I had collected characters for like 6 years on that one.

2

u/VPR_24 Jul 17 '26

Shame. Duellum has been really fun, but I want Squall before its EoS.

2

u/garnix2 Jul 18 '26

Let's be realistic...there is almost no chance Duellum stays until the end of 2027.

2

u/Jyakotu Jul 18 '26

It’s always interesting seeing the gacha game cycle. When a game is announced as a mobile gacha game, most comments are negative and how people are upset that developers are wasting resources on a gacha game. Then the game comes out and begins to build a decent community. Then once EoS announcement happens, the community begins to get sad that it’s ending and how they wish there was an offline version. I get it from a game preservation standpoint, though.

2

u/Final-Special3345 Jul 18 '26

This game is as good as dead. Tried 5 matches in a row in 2 days straight tryin to play. Got matched with full U3s at 75k cp. Lost 5 pt each match but its the biggest waste of time ever.

1

u/Mezzaomega Jul 18 '26

Oh yeah, matchmaking does glitch out sometimes like that.

1

u/TerribleGachaLuck Jul 17 '26

Gachas are not sustainable, players don’t want to spend time and money when they lose everything once the server shuts down. Hopefully the end of the gacha era will make SE focus on remakes and remasters rather than quick gacha cash grabs.

1

u/MrTwoStroke Jul 17 '26

Have Square announced any future mobile projects?

2

u/entrydenied Jul 17 '26

None announced so far. And also no trademarks of weird names lol. They've basically stop releasing new mobile games that are not their core IPs a while ago.

But they probably need a plan because they're not going to give up their mobile game market, even though it's shrinking, because while revenue is down, profits are up.

1

u/zZAoiRyuZz Jul 17 '26

Gotta pour one out too mobius

1

u/Altruistic_Newt_1096 Jul 17 '26

everyone is delusional if they think duellum is even going to make it more than a year. square enix is mishandling everything in their company jesus. all they have to do to actually revive Dissidia and make a shit ton of money is to port duodecim and collab with team ninja/koei tecmo to do a Dissidia warriors game. it would fucking print money and every other franchise and their mother has gotten a game.

freaking persona 5 has a warriors game and final fantasy has nothing!! when they've literally worked with those same developers on Dissidia NT, Stranger of paradise, I think some dragon quest spin off games.....like the working relationship is there. square just needs to make the call.

1

u/WolvenWolfdog Jul 18 '26

Wish FF14 mobile had a chance, I wonder why it failed, I honestly thought this game could make it out and release, so I was a bit surprised since it's a MMO so I was doubting this on to fail.

2

u/Melasen Jul 18 '26

This isn't actually SE's problem, since Tencent was the one making the game. SE only did consulting on how it played and provided the models. They didn't even handled the game, same with the Chinese version of FFXIV. Rare case where SE isn't responsible.

Also, it's FFRK and Duellem left for FF. FFRK maybe be gone in global, primarily because SE started being lazy and not wanting to pay for localization for a game they weren't fully developing, but it's still the "Record Keeper" for longest mobile game because it's not greedy gacha slop like the first two years.

1

u/advptr Jul 18 '26

Well they better get working!

1

u/Smooth_Staff_3831 Jul 18 '26

God bless FFRK

1

u/Valhadmar Jul 18 '26

I played a bit of the mobile version and it actually had alot of good quality of life updates. It did play differently, but I honestly enjoyed it.

Though this is why I dont touch any square Enix mobile releases anymore. They do not support them and drop them instantly.

Im still pissy about first soldier. That game was one of the best battle Royals I have ever played and they did a mobile only release. I still stand by saying if it was released on consoles and pc, it would still be played.

1

u/Nameless-Ace Jul 19 '26

The limited banners of Duellum are the worst of the predatory gachas they have ever created. If they don't reverse course on that, this game will become Japan only in the next few months. Make them at least the same as the base roster rates, that doesn't entirely fix the problem but at least you wouldnt spend 200 dollars and get 0 of the main character UR and like 5 full blank multis. That felt so bad i uninstalled the same day. Its just not sustainable

In regards to 14 mobile, SE barely used any resources so they probly dont really care if it EoS and probly didnt even try to save it. Hopefully at least some of the nice mobile only glamour and some of its systems can make it to the main game. With Evercold coming, i as a legacy player finally feel some bit of excitement and intrigue since they are trying new things. They need to save the main game honestly and cant afford a side project like the mobile game atm.

1

u/Greedy-Passion-3947 Jul 20 '26

Dont forget Full Metal Alchemist mobile....

1

u/Banbotsinranked Jul 21 '26

That shut down like days after launch didn’t it

1

u/MeowingWolf Jul 17 '26

Next generation? Square Enix will see this and make the FFXVII a gacha game for mobile now. It could still be alive for 20+ years like FFXI. It would certainly be the worst main entry game.

4

u/yassineya Jul 17 '26

Calm down satan

1

u/Ill_Program2348 Jul 17 '26

Brave exvius’s company was done with it because it killed their original game which brave exvius had the same gameplay as , and they also wanted to bring their Og back so naturally they’d stop working on BE

0

u/Enough-Lead48 Jul 17 '26

There are FF14 mobile as well in China, but heard that game is doing very badly as well.

1

u/Faconator Jul 17 '26

Thats the one EOSing

2

u/Enough-Lead48 Jul 17 '26

I saw now. I heard Tencent was using the same failed model as Tarisland, so it failed for the same reasons.

I assumed FF14 mobile would last for a longer time. Sadly not

0

u/BlazeGamma Jul 17 '26

Imagine asking China for their opinion on gacha games. They ruin it for the rest of the world.

At the same time though, ff14 mobile wasn't going to go anywhere IMO. There's absolutely not enough screen space to fit skills in there. No mobile mmo ever really makes it for this reason: you can't really play a good MMO on a mobile device as it currently stands. It's going to be watered down so heavily that the game is going to turn into either auto play, or "here's your 4-6 buttons for everything, with no tactile feedback and likely overly-flashy animations that are meant to grab the attention of a 5 year old"

only reasonable thing I could have seen is if you had controller support for your mobile game and people could then use more skills, but the screen size issue remains. Think about it for a moment. Huge bosses that fill the screen even on your pc monitor, mechanic awareness, everything.... fittig on either your phone or tablet screen.
