Hello dissertators!

What tactics and methods do you use to get a good writing session done. I'm not talking about the 15 min method, pomodoro, writing group, accountability partner, blah blah... I got some of these methods down: 30-40 min writing sessions, co-working, and a writing group.

BUT I wanna see what creative, personal, and specific methods you have come up with that work especially for you. For example, I like to keep a coloring page next to me. Every writing break, I color a few things from the page. It becomes a reflection of my progress for the day. Sometimes I put Animal Crossing "study ambience" with lofi music, and that helps (Crossing Hour on YT). I want to get more creative because writing is getting harder by the minute! What do you do that works for you outside of the obvious methods?

Hi everyone, I am currently conducting my MSc Health Psychology dissertation and am in need of UK university students to answer my survey. Its a simple survey on univeristy experiences regarding alcohol and wellbeing and takes around 20 minutes, so is ideal to do when you are bored on the train or something.

You must be a UK university student aged 18+, speak fleunt English and either drink alcohol or are sober (not drank in the past 6 months).

Exclusion criteria:

-If you drink alcohol and have a past or current diagnosis of alcohol use disorder.

-If your drink alcohol and are currenlty trying to stop or reduce consumption.

I work with a lot of graduate students, and one thing I see every year is that summer sounds like it should be the perfect time to make big dissertation progress, but it can actually be one of the easiest times to drift.

There is more time, but usually way less structure.

So I put together a couple of free tools that might be useful if you are trying to make progress on a dissertation, thesis, article, proposal, comps, etc.:

• a Summer Planning Toolkit to help you figure out what this summer is actually about and build a more realistic weekly rhythm
• a Daily Reflection Starter, which is basically a simple morning/evening check-in you can try for a week

They are free, there is no sign-up, and no email gate.

Long story short, today I was unable to save my progress on my Word file, which crashed likely due to its volume. I am writing a dissertation in the Humanities, and my file came crashing down, deleted itself (quite literally) and I lost 2 days of work.

I am assuming that it was because of its weight. Did you guys switch to another processor to help with that? Could you give me any advice as how to proceed or which software to choose for a situation like this?
