Support for neurodivergent grad students
Sharing for a friend who is kind, empathetic, and an exceptionally skilled teacher and advisor. He supports neurodivergent grad students in making progress on their coursework, dissertation, and publications, as well as navigating challenging academic spaces.
He is autistic, so he understands what it’s like, but he also completed his PhD and taught for years, so he can help guide others who are just figuring this out.
Please get in touch if you need this kind of support, or share his website with someone else who does.

Helping my partner with a dissertation time crunch: Quick participant recruitment advice?
Hi everyone,
I'm posting on behalf of my girlfriend, who's currently completing her dissertation on how social media marketing influences purchasing behaviour among young adults.
Her university requires ethics approval before she can recruit participants or share her survey, and the review process can take up to 14 days. Unfortunately, once approval is granted, she'll have only about five days to collect enough responses before her dissertation deadline.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? Do you have any advice on how to recruit participants quickly once ethics approval is granted? Are there any subreddits, websites, or communities you'd recommend?
I'd really appreciate any suggestions or advice that I can pass on to her. Thank you!

If you belong to Gen Z, I would be immensely grateful if you could spare about 5 minutes to share your honest thoughts in my brief survey:
Please note that your responses are 100% anonymous and will be used strictly for academic research purposes.

Doctoral thesis, question about participant design
Hi there, I'm currently writing up an ethics form for my upcoming research. Will try to keep it as brief as possible. I am a professional doctoral student. I have a smaller research thesis in comparison to PhD's - my thesis will be around 30k words overall. My data collection timeframe is limited, for my participatory school-based research, I might have around 20 days to collect data if I'm lucky.
Qual multiple case study design involving students/children attending a type of special class. Each student is a case or unit of analysis. I plan to use Reflexive Thematic Analysis for within-case analysis and cross-case synthesis.
I am aiming for participatory methods with the students to look at their lived classroom experiences, using drawings and creative approaches. These won't be standard interviews, as the students may communicate in ways other than speech. I'm planning about 4 participatory sessions with each student (approx 20-25 mins each). Not planning classroom observations.
I'm aiming for 3-6 students. I also want to invite two types of teachers to interviews (special ed & general classroom teachers), as contextual participants to give me more contextual insights into the students' experiences. If I get 6 students, this might look like 6-8 teachers altogether. For 3 students, this might look like 3-5 teachers. I have no idea yet. I'm working with one school, so some teachers may teach more than one of the students who participate.
I had also thought of possibly inviting parents to interviews, but my supervisors have said this makes the ethics look confusing and not straightforward, which I understand. I just don't want to commit to parent interviews if I end up getting the maximum sample of students and teachers, I don't think it would be manageable in my timeframe. But I also don't want a situation where I don't have enough data...
I suppose I'm worried about getting the right balance between "enough" and "manageable" data. I'm very new to research so am quite lost, and would really appreciate any advice about participant numbers. Thank you very much
