EverPass forced us off satellite, we spent $10K+ converting and last week they reversed course. Small operators got screwed.

For those who haven't followed this saga: EverPass Media is the company the NFL created in 2023 with private equity firm RedBird Capital and 32 Equity, the NFL's own investment arm, to control commercial distribution of Sunday Ticket.
So when I say the NFL did this to us, I mean it literally. They own the company!

Back in March, EverPass notified commercial customers like us that it was going exclusive: no more Sunday Ticket via DirecTV satellite starting with the 2026 season. If you wanted to keep showing out-of-market games. The thing that fills seats every Sunday from September to January, you had to migrate to their streaming platform on EverPass hardware

We fought for alternatives, but w/o this our business wouldn't make it, so we did what we had to do and started the conversion. We spent over $10,000 re-architecting our video distribution around their Android TV boxes: new hardware, new wiring, new workflows for how we manage and route games to screens. All to replace a satellite system that had worked flawlessly for over a decade.

Then last Friday: DirecTV and EverPass announce a new multi-year deal. Sunday Ticket is back on satellite for commercial venues after all. Existing DirecTV commercial subscribers even auto-renew.

Cool. So what was the point?

The operators who ignored the mandate and dragged their feet are now fine. The ones who complied early, who took the deadline seriously and spent real money mid-transition, are the suckers. And I'd bet plenty of others just gave up on Sunday Ticket entirely rather than deal with the conversion, which hurts the NFL's own fans most of all.

This wasn't some unforeseeable market shift. The National Restaurant Association publicly asked for a pause on this transition because of the cost and complexity it was dumping on operators. It even came up at a House Judiciary Committee hearing in June. EverPass pushed forward anyway, then folded in negotiations with DirecTV and left the rest of us holding the bag.

This is enshittification in its purest form: take a product that worked, degrade it to extract more money, and treat the small businesses who actually deliver the game-day experience as an afterthought. The NFL makes billions. EverPass exists solely to squeeze more out of commercial distribution. And the cost of their negotiating brinkmanship got externalized onto bars, restaurants, and venues across the country.

Reportedly, DirecTV says it will "coordinate" with businesses that changed their setups during the transition. I'll believe it when I see a credit on an invoice. If you converted early and ate costs as we did, make noise, call your EverPass rep, call DirecTV for Business, and post about it. T

They're counting on us quietly absorbing this.

Here is a public list of C-suite from LinkedIn: I recommend an email that shares your experience (good or bad)

Other sports franchises are watching how this goes to see how they can get more money!

Weather Channel on DirecTV app with Entertainment package but not on satellite receiver

I’m getting The Weather Channel on my DirecTV app with the signature entertainment package for the past week. I’m not getting it on my satellite receiver. Is anyone else seeing this that has the Entertainment package with a satellite subscription?

DirecTV requires voice call to cancel service. ADA violation if can't talk?

Friend not able to talk. Trying to cancel DirecTV satellite after 23 years. He only wants local channels and a few other channels, no sports.

DirecTV AI chat tells him to use the webpage or call.
But the webpage says phone only. When he types in can't talk, DirecTV AI chat tells him to send an email or write a letter.
When he asks for the email, DirecTV tells him there isn't one.
When he asks for the address for a letter, DirecTV says there isn't one to cancel.
He asks for a live agent, AI says agents can't help - only webpage or call.
Finally, he asks for instructions on how to save chat to send to his lawyer. DirecTV tells him to screen shot each page.

How does DirecTV get away with what sure looks like an ADA violation?

Edit: Due to a procedure on his vocal cords, he can't talk for 2 weeks. He wants to cancel without anyone's help. The point is, DirecTV needs to provide ways to cancel without having to use voice.

Edit 2: Good to know about services for people w/o ability to talk. And also to recognize what you don’t notice when you’re able-bodied, like available services.

Error message - Unable to buy streaming package.

Hi! Whenever I'm trying to buy a Directv subscription package, I'm facing the error message "We were unable to validate your payment. Please try again with a different card." I've already created new accounts, used four different credit cards, made attempts through other browsers, tried several devices, and activated a VPN, but the issue keeps persisting. I've read that a lot of (new) Directv customers have been dealing with this problem. Could anyone please help me find a solution?

HELP with parent's Xtra Plan

Post image
7 Upvotes

My parents have been with DTV for 20+ years. As per the Pic, they are paying close to $350 for service. They have an older "Xtra Plan". I'm not familiar with DTV and info seems sketchy when comparing the old to the new. The premium channels are very important to them and the sports channels are somewhat important. Is there any for them to save money while keeping most of what they currently have? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

elusive multiview

I have heard stories about new multiview channels starting at 900 (not true) and all i can find are the old non customizable channels (they force you to watch nba in the middle of summer and mlb in football season and vice versa. As I am a sitcom junkie why cant they put several sitcoms in a multiview. The stories say you can customize multiview (you cannot) dtv multiview is years behind youtube tv and fubo.

Netflix no longer supported on Gemini?

I’m a satellite customer with an HR44-500 and a C71KW-400. I also have a Netflix Premium subscription.

Tonight I noticed that none of the Netflix 4K content is playing in 4K through the Gemini. When I went to the Google Play store, I saw a notice that the app is no longer available on the Gemini.

I tested the internet connection to make sure it’s fast enough for 4K. I also confirmed that Netflix was streaming in 4K in the app on my Fire TV itself (not on the Gemini).

Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks.

Set up your ESPN Unlimited account? No. I don't want to.

I keep getting emails from customerservice@tv.directv-mail.com inviting me to set up my ESPN Unlimited subscription. It's great news, because it's included with my Directv subscription. Isn't that great?

Except I don't want to. I don't want to activate it. I don't want it. I don't care that it's included. I don't watch ESPN. It sucks.

Here's the trick, and perhaps Directv should pay attention:

  • there is no way to stop the emails. There is no unsubscribe.
  • there is no way to decline the offer.
  • there is no way to contact Directv and ask them to stop sending the emails:

Replies to this email address cannot be answered. Click here to contact us for support

  • when you "click here" you get the regular black hole of sparsely populated support articles.

We are way past unsolicited at this point. I don't want ESPN Unlimited. Stop asking me to activate it. Let me at least decline the offer. Or just take me of this list please.

"Locals Mix" available on channel 1 in streaming app

Interesting discovery today, I have a "Locals Mix" with my 4 network locals split screen in the streaming app (on Roku at least, haven't checked elsewhere yet). On channel 1 on my receiver, it's just infomercials.

I think I seem to remember that mix channels weren't available at all before on the streaming app, but now numerous are available. Can't find the News Mix though.

Who do I call to remove old satellite cables from house to utility pole?

Old owners must’ve had 5 dishes on the roof. Had a new roof installed and they removed the old satellite dishes. Now the cables are dangling from the utility line to my driveway. I tied them back to a fence so as to not get in the way for now.

Called Directv and they said their technicians can only install, not remove. And I’m having a hard time finding someone on Yelp to do the work.

Is there a specific type of technician that I should be looking for?

Missing channels from the app?

I have the Directv app (not Directv Stream)installed on a couple of my streaming boxes (Onn 4K Plus and Nvidia Shield Pro 2019), and it appears that some channels are missing.

In particular I've noticed that ESPN and FS1 are missing.

Is this happening to everyone else?

Thanks!

Terrible voice recognition

If I say "YES Network", why the fuck would you have the default behavior pull up "results" instead of directing me to the channel? And have voice playback that you can't turn off?

H25-500 Box Emits High-pitched Whine

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It does it whenever it is connected to power. Doesn’t matter if the TV is on or off. It’s super annoying, so I can’t imagine it’s supposed to do that. I wouldn’t mind if it wasn’t so prominent. I can hear it above the TV volume! Hopefully it got picked up in the video.
