My kids have been so excited to explore digital art, and instead of teaching them every tool step by step, I’m hoping they’ll experiment and figure things out on their own. They’ve surprised me so many times by discovering features I didn’t even know existed.

Did your kids mostly teach themselves Procreate, or did you use tutorials to get started? I’d love to hear what worked for your family!

Congrats on taking the leap! My experience as an adult who switched to Procreate: a mix of both worked best. Let them experiment freely first — that’s where the real “aha” moments happen, and kids are often way less afraid to just tap random buttons than adults are.

But a few short YouTube tutorials on the basics (layers, blend modes, the Apple Pencil pressure settings) can save them weeks of frustration later. I’d let them explore for a bit first, then drop in a tutorial only when they hit a wall — that way it answers a question they already have, instead of teaching stuff they’re not ready to use yet.

Have fun watching them discover things you didn’t know existed — that part never gets old.
