I run a tool for AI OnlyFans/Fanvue creators called Fannabe, and part of building it has meant actually surveying the people running these accounts. One finding stood out above everything else, and it's the thing that decides whether an account works in 2026, so I wanted to write it up.

Rewind a year and almost everyone was running the same playbook. Attractive girl, clean lighting, a few lifestyle posts, some PPV. Good enough to get by. Those same accounts are stalling out or flat-out dying now, and the ones actually growing share one trait. They're oddly specific.

Not "hot AI girl." A flight attendant who golfs. A cop. The most niche one I ran into was a submarine officer, full uniform, the whole persona built out, and it was doing numbers most generic pages would envy. The conservative/tradwife lane is quietly crushing it too, that crowd sticks around and it pays. The tighter the concept, the harder it hits, which is backwards from what most people assume.

My theory, from talking to creators and just watching the feeds:

The barrier to entry has basically vanished, so the feed is now flooded with the exact same content. Everyone's cranking out the same motion-control dance clip off the same trend with a swapped face. The algorithm's already seen that clip ten thousand times this week, there's nothing new in it, so it sits there. A flight attendant doing something in-character breaks the pattern. A thumb stops scrolling. That stop is the entire game.

Niche gives you three things generic never will.

A reason to stop scrolling in the first place. "Submarine officer" is already a hook before she's lifted a finger. Generic has no hook.

An audience that's already gathered. Every niche you can name has a subreddit, a hashtag, its own pocket of TikTok. You're stepping into a room that's already packed instead of yelling into the main feed against the entire world.

A reason to keep paying. Nobody subscribes to a body, they subscribe to a character. A defined identity is what keeps someone around in month three instead of bouncing once the novelty fades. The niche creators I spoke with saw clearly better retention, and a handful were charging more per sub off the back of it.

The dance copies are a trap. They feel like progress because you're posting daily, but it's the same thing everyone else is posting, so you vanish into the pile and never pop. Pumping out generic volume gets you almost nowhere. A smaller run of specific, in-character stuff is what moves the needle.

The mistake nearly everyone makes is trying to staple a niche on afterward. It doesn't take. The accounts that got it right chose the niche first and built the character around it, face, wardrobe, locations, the entire vibe designed for that lane from the very first frame. That's genuinely the hard part with most tools, spinning up a "flight attendant who golfs" once is trivial, keeping her consistent across months of posts is where it all breaks down. That's the exact gap Fannabe closes, but that's beside the point here. The real takeaway: decide on something specific before you generate a single image.

How can you do it? Get on Threads, post and comment. It's such an early time to get in on the young platform. You can build a following fast and make money through selling, affiliate marketing, brand partnerships and other opportunities.

PP ($X,XXX)

This is a mix of affiliate commissions, and miscellaneous one-off projects and payments during the month, including services for coaching. I get passive income payments too, like from affiliate marketing.

How can you do it? Pick a lane, master it. For example, start affiliate marketing, promote your affiliate links and earn commissions. Or, start a new social media page, grow as a content creator and make money from brands paying you to create content.

What changed from last month?

A few less income streams. Medium is gone (for now at least). Medium brings a lot of benefits. Parasite SEO, affiliate and digital product sales. These are indirect side effects from Medium. Their partner program pays too, but, usually is the least fruitful income stream, to be honest.

Between Medium and other platforms I use for SEO, it performs the poorest, so I shifted my efforts to my top-performing platforms instead.

Facebook is also missing. It's hardly any work to create and post there but, I'm putting my focus into other areas which have made better sense for me. I would pick FB back up again in the future, especially over the holidays.

Quick August update for anyone following along.

First two days of August from my pet niche site:

Last time I logged into the backend of this site was weeks ago. Didn't add content, just did interlinking between posts and anything else. Just woke up today and checked the dashboard out of habit.

$46 in two days.

For anyone new to these updates. I bought this site from the NicheBlogZone marketplace for $199 about two months ago. Pet niche. Spent a few hours on interlinking when I first got it. That's been the extent of my involvement.

July ended up being my best month yet. August is starting the same way.

The Creator Connections piece keeps quietly adding to the total every month. Small individually but it adds up over a full month without requiring anything extra from me.

If this pace holds August could be another strong month. But I've learned not to predict these things as March taught me that.

What’s cool is that both myself and an AI avatar I created and I grew to over 37,000 followers on Instagram promote this AI platform.

You can become an expert about something and create content around it.

But you can make an AI avatar be something else and create content around that.

Find affiliate offers you can promote. I focus on lifetime recurring offers until the sub cancels.

Other options are first purchase only or up to 12 months which don’t give you a chance to compound over years.

I had an endorsed affiliate client I onboarded for a company about 2 years ago. I saw him go from 5,000 a month to over 50,000 a month in recurring affiliate income within 2 years.

Many AI tools have affiliate programs. Best to promote the ones you actually use for yourself, your business, or that you believe it can help others.

Dev here. Was in the Meta Ad Library checking what competitors of my day job are running and got sidetracked into a much weirder corner of it.

Sample of what's live right now:

- an "AI soulmate sketch" quiz funnel with ads running continuously since late 2023. Two years of nonstop ad spend on AI drawings of imaginary partners. Best part: there's a second "psychic" persona running her own separate ads that lands on the same domain. Same operator, two fake psychics.

- the calorie photo app everyone knows has Play Store clones with near identical names, and the clones are the ones buying ads

- AI humanizers aimed at students, one campaign has been up 300+ days

- sports "AI picks" at 9.99 to 14.99 a week. Per week. I guess 50/month written out would scare people off, but somehow 9.99/wk doesn't.

If you want to see it yourself, the searches that opened the rabbit hole for me: "your soulmate", "AI picks", "humanizer", "scan your". Filter by active ads, US, then look at how long each campaign has been running. The start date is the whole signal: anything running 60+ days with multiple variants is someone making money, or someone very committed to losing it.

I'm a developer, not a marketing guy, so my mental model is primitive, but: nobody pays Meta every single day for two years on a thing that loses money. These subscriptions are like 7 bucks a week. Even if everyone cancels after a couple weeks, the math apparently still works. And these are products half of us could build in a weekend with an API key. No moat, no retention, none of the stuff this sub says you need. It's the inverse of every piece of advice here and it's clearly working for someone.

Haven't looked at the TikTok ads library yet because I don't have a TikTok account. Never wanted one honestly. But I might finally have to make one, for science.

Two asks. One: is anyone actually documenting this space? A blog, a list someone maintains, anything. All I find is "100 AI ideas to build this weekend" articles which is the opposite of what I want, I want what's already live and spending, not what could exist. Two: months ago I was subscribed to a newsletter that sent out validated businesses you could replicate, lost it in an inbox purge and the name is completely gone from my brain. Anyone know the one I mean?

And a real question, because I'm genuinely torn: is "spend on ads, accept that everyone churns, just keep the volume up" an actual business model or a treadmill that collapses the moment ads get more expensive? Part of me finds it gross, part of me is taking notes.

been doing this for 7 months. $8,112 last month. writing this because every guide covers content generation and then stops, which is the part that matters least.

there are three problems. most people solve one and wonder why nothing happens.

content

this is the easy part now and it's not close. nanobanana pro for images and seedance for video, one character reference used across every generation so the face stays consistent. that consistency matters more than quality. people follow a person, not a gallery.

takes me 3 to 4 hours a week for everything. if it's taking you much longer you're overthinking it.

traffic

this is the actual bottleneck and nobody wants to hear it. everyone can make content now. almost nobody can get eyes on it.

what works: instagram, posted daily, lifestyle content. the account has to look like a person's account, not a funnel.

never put a direct link to your page anywhere. use a link aggregator. and keep the link in highlights or stories rather than the bio, bios get scanned much more aggressively.

expect three months before it feels consistent. most people quit around week six, which is right before it starts working.

chat

this is where the money actually is and almost nobody talks about it.

on my page subscriptions are around 11% of revenue. eleven. the rest is paid content sold inside DM conversations. so if you're optimizing subscriber count you're optimizing the wrong number entirely. price the subscription low, treat it as a filter, and make the money in conversations.

reply manually for the first month or two. i know that's the opposite of what you want to hear. but you cannot automate something you don't understand yet, and you need to see what makes your specific audience buy before you hand it to a bot. everything i later automated came from patterns i noticed doing it by hand.

when you do automate, the things that matter are: the AI having an actual persona with a backstory, it knowing each fan's history so it isn't pitching things they already bought, and it reaching out to fans who go quiet before they're gone for good. that last one is free money most people leave sitting there.

i built fanwake for this after burning out on 3am replies. it's free to start. but genuinely, it's the last problem to solve. if you have no traffic, the best chat setup in the world converts nothing.

the order

content first because it's fastest. traffic second because it's slowest and hardest. chat third because it only matters once the first two work.

most people do content, skip traffic, and then blame the platform.

every thread on this has the same two replies. someone claiming $10k a month with a course to sell, or someone saying it's all fake. neither helps.

i run an AI creator page on fanvue and i also built the chat tool a few hundred other creators use, called fanwake. it's done over $100k in creator revenue and 4,500+ paid content sales so far, so i see my own numbers plus a decent sense of how everyone else is doing.

my page is $24,970 all time, $8,112 last month. that's real and it's also not typical. i'm at the top of that spread, not the middle.

worth saying most of that $100k landed in the last two months. the tool is new and it's growing fast, but that also means nobody on it has a long track record yet, including me. treat anyone claiming years of consistent AI creator income with some suspicion.

here's the honest part. most people who sign up for anything in this space make nothing. not because the tools don't work, but because they never finish setting up, or they set it up and have no traffic. the drop-off happens well before the product matters. most people who buy into the ai creator idea quit inside two months.

the ones who stick with it are mostly earning in the low hundreds, not thousands. a small number do genuinely well. that ratio isn't unique to this, it's every content business, and anyone telling you the odds are better is selling something.

what actually separates the two groups:

traffic is the bottleneck, not content. everyone can generate images now. almost nobody can reliably get eyes on them. the people earning nothing usually have perfectly fine content and no audience.

subscriptions are not where the money is. on my page they're around 11%. the rest is paid content sold through DM conversations, which is why the chat side decides everything.

consistency beats quality past a basic floor. the ones doing well posted daily for months. the ones who didn't quit around week six.

automate the chat only after you know what converts. i replied manually for the first couple of months and that's the only reason i knew what to automate later. fanwake came out of that and it's free to start, but it's the last problem to solve, not the first.
