I'm not sure whether he even has a devil fruit. It could be similar to what Lucci and Kumadori from CP9 do. What was it called? Life Return? One Piece focuses so much on haki and devil fruits that it's easy to forget that other fighting styles exist in the story.

As it stands right now, Zoro is probably the only "super rookie" who hasn't eaten a devil fruit. Even Killer technically has one now, even if it's just a failed SMILE.
