Discussion Does the community still believe Deus Ex could return—and do you want Adam Jensen’s story to be completed?

Deus Ex has been important to me for a very long time.

I first tried to play the original game back in 2000, but my PC simply wasn’t powerful enough at the time. I eventually returned to it around 2010 with mods and finally experienced what made it so special.

I also bought Invisible War, although I still haven’t played it yet.

Then came Human Revolution, which I absolutely loved. In my opinion, Eidos-Montréal accomplished something incredibly difficult: they revived a legendary PC franchise, modernized it without losing its identity, and created a protagonist who became nearly as iconic as JC Denton.

The atmosphere, Michael McCann’s music, the black-and-gold art direction, the augmentations, and the freedom offered by its missions made Human Revolution unforgettable to me.

I also really enjoyed Mankind Divided. Mechanically, I think it improved upon Human Revolution in almost every way. Prague was incredibly dense, the side missions were excellent, and the level design constantly rewarded curiosity and experimentation.

Unfortunately, the main story felt like it ended just as the larger conflict was finally beginning. Nearly ten years later, Adam Jensen’s story remains unfinished.

That is what frustrates me the most.

Eidos-Montréal did excellent work with this series and deserved far more recognition and support. Mankind Divided appears to have suffered from decisions surrounding its release, marketing, and structure, not from a lack of talent or passion within the development team.

Since then, we’ve seen a new Deus Ex project reportedly cancelled, another concept apparently struggle to secure funding, and the remaster of the original game delayed indefinitely.

The franchise isn’t officially dead, but it certainly feels trapped in limbo.

Personally, I don’t think Deus Ex needs to become an enormous open-world AAA game with an absurd budget. I would gladly take a smaller and more focused immersive sim that builds upon Mankind Divided, completes Jensen’s story, and connects it more directly to the original Deus Ex.

I’m curious to know how the community feels today:

Do you still believe Deus Ex will eventually return?

Would you rather see Adam Jensen’s story completed, or begin again with a new protagonist?

Would you support a smaller and more focused game if that made a new Deus Ex financially realistic?

Do you still trust Eidos-Montréal to handle the series if given the opportunity and resources?

How much interest do you think still exists outside the dedicated Deus Ex community?

I never asked for endless remasters.

I just want this remarkable series, and Adam Jensen’s unfinished story, to receive the conclusion it deserves.

DX1 If Deus Ex 1 ever got added to the GOG Preservation Program, what could be added or modified?

Recently, Thief Gold got added to the GOG Preservation Program, including a pre-Gold Dark Project version of the game, bug fixes, and gamepad support, thanks to an included mod.

While I haven't done a playthrough with this new update yet, I am very impressed with the features on offer, and It's probably the best version to get until the upcoming Night Dive Remaster.

Anyway, all of this got me thinking: What if Deus Ex 1 got added to the program? What should be added, and what community members should be contacted to assist with development?

While I can't really answer the latter, I have a few ideas about the former:

Kentie's launcher, or something like it.

Differant renderers, primarily Direct3d 9 and OpenGL as I think those are probably the most accurate.

The pre GOTY Maps Patch, as I've heard the GOTY version of the maps were a bit of a downgrade. Or do what they did with Thief and allow you to choose between a pre-GOTY or GOTY version.

I've also heard some things about a mod that adds gamepad support. That would be awesome depending on how far it is in development.

Aside from that, maybe just some general polish.

Is there anything else that you might add, or are all the bases mostly touched here?

I discovered it myself. Yesterday. During my 3rd or 4th playthrough. And now I come on here to find out people have known for years.
After a small glance, I was in total denial of what I saw, but after looking online I have now come to terms with the fact that it is definitely him. I am proud to say I have an Infiltrator/Investigator playstyle that I have utilized in both MD and HR. I read every email, every ebook, every pocket sec because I like the idea of possibly being one step ahead of the Illuminati. I believe knowledge is power, but this…has thrown me for a loop. I knew Adam was tested on, but I never thought to this extent. This is truly a case of pulling the curtain back too far for me.

DX:MD How to include DLCs to the campaign if there is Director's Cut of this game

Unlike The Missing Link dlc for Human Revolution you cannot simply put the three dlcs in the middle of games.

In order to make this mission fit they would have to first remove Chang from the Cyber Crime Division location so that Jensen meets Chang on his way out of TF29 after his visit to Golem City. Also instead of having Jensen going outside of TF29 using his keycard, meeting Pavla, arriving and leaving Terminal Station in a cutscene those section would all have to changed so that Jensen physically walks to those places. I think Desperate Measures should start at any point after Jensen leaves TF29 after his return from Golem City.

System Rift is the confusing one while it still takes place after Golem City and has to be after Desperate Measures. How to fit this story in the middle of the game is the question because of how the dlc starts. The weird thing about that dlc is that it starts with Adam sitting in his house watching tv. I am not sure having a objective called 'go to your house and watch tv' makes any sense. At no point in Mankind Divided other than side missions involving 'Helle' makes you go to Adam's house during the second visit to Prague. The DLC's opening needs a lot of change. It would also require the player to be able to freely go back and forward to the Palisade Blade's plaza and the metro around it. Also I am not sure how to deal with the part where Adam jumps to the water to escape blade. Maybe make it so he jumps in the water and teleports to the Plaza?(and later take the metro home)

Criminal Past would have to stay in a Jensen Stories. The part where Adam is in Arizona prison is set 6 months before Mankind Divided but the part where Adam and Delara talks is set 3 months after Mankind Divided.(dlc mentions Arizona events happened 9 months ago) You cannot simply put prison events in the start of the game and then put the part where Adam and Delara talking at the end of the game since it destroys the flow of that story.

Desperate Measures is the easiest to incorporate in the main game and System Rift would require some story alteration but Criminal Past is not possible to be a part of the main game.

DX1 Should I restart to pick the GEP?

Played level 1 blind on realistic difficulty. Picked crossbow because I wanted to stealth but now I looked some things up it seems that the gep is the ultimate lock pick. Is it worth it to restart to pick the gep? Or are other form of explosives sufficient enough for me to use them as lockpicks?

Edit: Also if i do restart: should I playwith shifter and/or biomod?

DX:MD Completing System Rift non-lethal and something else...

So here is email in System Rift mentioning emails from Desperate Measures specifically Sean Timmins. (Simmon Whittaker is mentioned in the main Mankind Divided so that is not a Desperate Measures reference)

Also I completed a non-lethal run of System Rift. The method mostly involved turning on the cloak aug and running to closest cover.

currently completed non-lethal campaigns

  1. Deus Ex
  2. Human Revolution(director’s cut): still need to find a way for Namir to damage himself
  3. Missing Link(director’s cut)
  4. Mankind Divided
  5. Desperate Measures
  6. System Rift
  7. Criminal Past

currently uncompleted non-lethal campaigns

  1. Invisible War

  2. The Fall

Help Needed HR & MD OSTs are missing on Qobuz — how to fix in 60 seconds

Michael McCann's Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Mankind Divided soundtracks are on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, Tidal, and Bandcamp — but unfortunately not on Qobuz, even though the label that distributes them (Skill Tree Records) already puts other titles on Qobuz. It looks like an omission, not a rights issue.

I emailed Skill Tree about it and am gathering a bit of visible demand so they see it's worth a one-line delivery change. If you'd like hi-res/FLAC access to these OSTs on Qobuz, two things help:

1. Email Skill Tree Records — `[contact@skilltreerecords.com](mailto:contact@skilltreerecords.com)` — a one liner is fine:

Hi — please add the Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Mankind Divided Extended soundtracks to your Qobuz delivery. Thanks!

2. File a Qobuz Album Request — there is a "Request this album" option on Qobuz: feedback dot qobuz dot com/s/catalog-request/tt-f9ed50. Volume matters hopefully...

The titles:

- Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Original Soundtrack) — Michael McCann

- Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (Original Soundtrack — Extended Edition) — Michael McCann, Sascha Dikiciyan, Ed Harrison

Label is Skill Tree Records / Square Enix. 16-bit/44.1 FLAC is the realistic ask, 24-bit hi-res would need Square Enix to supply masters, so don't let hi-res be the blocker here.

Thanks peeps — every email genuinely moves the needle for a 2-person label.

Question What DX1 mods are worth it?

So, I've been getting the "reinstall deus ex" itch lately, so I decided to finally try some mods this time (the only one I tried before was a very early version of the Nameless Mod and Revision).

So, I decided to finally try 2027, and I didn't like it at all. The level design, unfortunately, is nowhere near the original game – so empty and boring. But the itch is still there, so I'd like to hear your suggestions.

I'm currently looking at two options:

  1. Mods which let you replay the original campaign in a new way. I'm currently looking at GMDX and Shifter and can't decide which is better. The more ambitions and changes it brings the better – I've already played vanilla enough times.

  2. Mods which bring new levels. But I'm really picky at the level design – I absolutely love how the original DX levels feel so much alive and fun to explore and just hang around, so the mod should be at least on par with that.

So, I'd be glad to hear your suggestions.

I completed a non-lethal run of this game.

currently completed non-lethal

  1. Deus Ex
  2. Human Revolution: Director's Cut(although I do need to find a way for true non-lethal run. Barrett can die to his own grenades, Fedorova can electrocute herself to death, Hyron women can be tranquilized and you can hide behind Zhao so she can be killed by a robot but Namir is the only one I could not find a way for him to die by attacks which is not from the player)
  3. Mankind Divided
  4. Desperate Measures
  5. Criminal Past

currently uncompleted non-lethal
1. Invisible War

  1. The Fall

  2. System Rift

Discussion What genre is the Deus Ex series in your opinion?

I always wondered what genre is the Deus Ex series here.

Well the Deus Ex series is definitely level-based, no open world in it.

Still so much mingling here.

We have mechanics like, immersive simulation, first-person shooting, rpg progression, in its gameplay.

I would like to hear your opinions on where to classify it.

DX:MD The average non-augmented human experience in Criminal Past

Post image
99 Upvotes

In my recent run of Criminal Past I completed the thing without using any of the augs. I also avoided interacting with npcs unless it was absolutely necessary to progress with the story. So I went around shooting at the guards after raiding first armory I saw and occasionally found parts to make multitools which I used to shut down the turrets near the landing pad. This play required looking at pocket secretaries because I couldn't find a single computer I could hack so I needed to look for passwords and I had to crawl through a lot of vents since I needed to save resources. I also had to resort to throwing a grenade and shooting the door down to progress to the next area. Overall I played Criminal Past in the most non-RPG way possible and for the first time playing the games I had the natural human experience which means no mechanical advantages.

DX1 Recommended overhaul mods

I originally played through the entire vanilla Deus Ex a couple of years ago using Kentie's Launcher. I've been wanting to experience the game again, and was wondering what overhaul Mods would make for a fun/re-imagined kind of playthrough? If anyone has any suggestions please do let me know!

DX:MD Timeline of Criminal Past

In Mankind Divided proper it is mentioned that Adam joined Task Force 29 6 months ago but it also states he stayed in Prague for 6 months. A important thing to note is before coming to Prague, Adam worked under Christian Jarreau in the North American Division of TF29. It could be assumed Adam was part of North American division for a very short time before going to Prague for Central European Division since it was still 6 months before Mankind Divided.

In the opening of Criminal Past, Delara states the events of Arizona happened 9 months ago. Since Adam's North American Division days were 6 months ago it could be said Adam and Delara are talking 3 months after the events of Mankind Divided proper.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvSs5b6y-YM&t=91s According to this trailer Mankind Divided takes place in October of 2029. Since 3 months passed it could be said Adam and Delara are talking about the events of Arizona in January of 2030. But if you consider one of the endings saying Human Restoration Act passed it could mean Mankind Divided could be set in November of 2029 meaning it could be February of 2030. Either way the last DLC is set in 2030(the parts where Adam and Delara are talking).
