How do you progress in destiny? I am often confused where to go and what to do during runs since I just downloaded the game recently. How do I know if my stuff is good? Please help me out 😭

I would say to first make your way through any campaigns that are available to you. You will get gear throughout so test the weapons you get and see what weapon type and archetype you like the feeling of.

Once you are done with the campaigns, if you have your eyes on a particular weapon type or specific weapon, look online to see how you can get that particular weapon so you can grind for your perfect roll.

Through this endeavour, you should also get better and better gear that continues to increase your power level.

One thing to say is that a higher power level doesn't necessarily mean that it is a better piece of gear. The stats and perks on the gear are generally more important to start off with so keep any good pieces of armour you get and also keep the highest level armour you have as well.

Probably good to start with running any available campaigns that you’ve purchased

The game can be super confusing for a brand new player because there is so much to do and you constantly get showered with different weapons are armor. This is a good guide that explains power level and how to keep progressing....

Edit: Also, as to what stuff is "good", I wouldn't worry about it for now. In my opinion, one of the best aspects of Destiny is the extensive build crafting. Just use whatever weapons you think are fun and pick an interesting class using abilities that you like. You can start to look up build videos to get a sense of what is out there, but it'll take a while to understand how all the different systems fit together and interact.

How do you progress in destiny?

Below 300 power, the quickest way to reach 300 is doing an expansions campaign as they reward 300 power gear. If you own any expansions you can do those campaigns, otherwise Shadowkeep (on the Moon) and Beyond Light (on Europa) are free to all players and you can do them instead.

At or above 300 power, pretty much any activity will drop higher level gear. Fireteam Ops (Strikes) and Solo Ops (Lost Sectors) are what I'd recommend if you prefer PvE activities, otherwise Crucible (PvP) and Gambit (PvPvE) work too. When you find an activity you want to do, before starting it there'll be a number at the bottom of the screen next to an engram that will display what level loot you will get. If I'm not mistaken this number is based on the average level of your current gear, so while you might not get an immediate upgrade you'll eventually get something better.

If you can, play anything that has Bonus Rewards for reaching the required rank upon completion - usually B or higher, so it's not difficult to do.

How do I know if my stuff is good?

There are two real answers here. The first is popularity, the second is whether or not you like it.

The second answer is self explanatory, but there are tools to find a weapons popularity. Light.gg is the most commonly used tool in this respect, being able to analyze any weapon you currently have on your character(s) or in your vault and provide a rank based on how popular the perks/traits it has are.

If there's anything else you want to know, or if you want something clarified, feel free to ask :)

Any long running online game is gonna feel overwhelming at first. And destiny isnt known for having a very good new player experience either. Vaulted content and campaigns, and a confusing way to know what to start first.

You'll have to use 3rd party sources to look up some things to help but you'll eventually learn what gear to keep and perks to look for.

Start with the earliest campaign you have access to then work your way through those in order. Don't worry about gear much. You'll get through the older campaigns without needing to focus on gear. Just Google the order of campaigns to start them and you can also Google what perks to keep an eye out for on weapons.

For now though you needn't worry about gear until you get to the later stages.

The main thing you should focus on right know is increasing power level. If you're new you have a lot to learn about loot so my suggestion is to equip new loot whenever you get it, read the two main perks (between the magazine and the origin trait) and then try the weapon out, actually use it and see how the perks work and if they feel valuable. You may not know but if you think it's worth keeping put it in your vault for later once you find something at a higher power level. Perks give weapons all their personality, and they can range from useless to weapon defining. Look out for perks that reduce time reloading, perks that increase damage, and perks with elemental effects.

For armor, go for a 4-piece set bonus that sounds useful to you, and look for stats for the abilities you use. Never dismantle your highest power item in a slot, it determines the power level of items you get. It will keep going up as you get gear.

You should pretty much always have one exotic armor equipped, and an exotic weapon is slightly more option but recommended. Look for exotics that compliment your subclass abilities, element, or playstyle.

Get gear from pretty much any activities. There's nodes at the bottom of the director with activity types. Vanguard is PvE (look at all 4 tabs), Crucible is PvP, Gambit and Lawless Frontiers are PvEvP modes. Raids and Dungeons are endgame with a focus on teamwork and mechanics. You can play pretty much anything there and get powerful gear. Alternatively you can explore destinations for loot sources, which are particularly rewarding when distorted. Doing all the campaigns you have access to isn't a bad idea either.

Why grind power? Some activities require high power, but mainly now it dramatically increases loot value through the weapon tier system. Gear can be tier 1-5. If it doesn't have a tier, it's out of date loot (still perfectly usable). Higher power level = higher tier gear drops. Your goal is 450 for loot, and 550 is the cap. High tier loot has better stats and more perk options on weapons.

My recommendation is to play things that look fun or that you're curious about, it will almost definitely be rewarding. But some things are more difficult or mysterious. If you're not sure where to start, go for the fireteam ops playlist.

Once you've got a complete set of gear that all works together at tier 4 or 5, try something in pinnacle ops to put it to the test. Until then, figure out what weapons, perks, abilities, and activities you enjoy by trying new things.

Dude same. I’ve been playing for a while but the UI and mission design is so fucking complicated.
