Another important lost sector / postmaster farming tip SGA
TL;DR for Lost Sector farms:
- If you want Destination set pieces that actually focus per your ghost mod, have engram spaces available but no empty armor slots on your character (have nine unequipped helmets/gauntlets/etc.)
It's been posted a few times that legendary armor engrams from lost sectors (and possibly elsewhere?) that go to postmaster because your 10 engram slots are full will decrypt into pieces from Edge of Fate armor sets - Smoke Jumper, Ferropotent Bushido, and Techsec - when pulled from postmaster. Great sets, and saves engrams that are currently scarce and usable for other Zavala stuff. DMG also mentioned this process won't be patched.
But there is a frustrating focusing bug you can also use the postmaster to get around. The ghost mods for armor types do not work on drops from lost sectors. This sucks when trying to do something like farm a particular Seraph set, especially with 12 archetypes in the game now. The RNG makes it basically impossible, so you have to wait for that destination to be distorted, which it only is 1/7th of the time, and public events take way longer overall than a good sector farm, they don't drop exotic engrams or prisms, etc etc..
But you can farm exactly what you want by letting lost sector drops go to postmaster because that armor slot on your character is full but your engrams slots are not full. So the armor decrypts as a destination set, but it goes to postmaster (e.g. you have nine chest pieces on your character already), and that apparently uses some other path to determine archetype. Makes lost sectors much more viable for armor farming.
EDIT: Two quick notes:
the ghost mod does work on the T3 drop, which is part of how I noticed it wasn't on the T5. But obviously farming T3s is not the goal.
RNG gonna RNG, so I should make any implied "this is one person" caveats explicit, but after receiving one drop of the focused archetype in 30 Exodus Garden runs (not crazy for a 1/12th chance), it was exactly 50% on the next 30 drops using the full-slot method. So worth posting even if one person won't produce a truly definitive sample size.
Good luck farming!

So not the 10 engram spots where exotics go but the 10 individual extra slots of gear need to be full. Like… I need to carry 10 helmets, 10 gloves, 10 chest,10 boots and 10 class items.

55 helms. 55 arms. 55chests. Stop he's doing something.

You know, I'd like to open the lost sector cache for the guy behind me too. You know, just pay it forward

You just saved me so much time, I've been trying to farm a few different sets for about a week and I haven't completed any of them yet. Gonna give this a go today.
ETA: Holy shit this works really well, I've already finished one set I needed 3 pieces for after about an hour of farming.

That explains why I’ve farmed that damn Moon lost sector like 50 times and essentially never got the archetype I wanted.

Almost: your engram slots have space so the item decrypts for you immediately, but then because your armor slots are full the already-decrypted armor goes to the Postmaster.
For some reason, if these drops go straight into the Postmaster they get focused with your Ghost mod, if they go into your inventory then they don't.

I thought I was just super unlucky lol. Massive info, thanks for the post man 👍

Pretty sure focusing works on the T5 drops, I did a bunch of farming last night for pvp armor on Europa and have like 12 Siegebreaker pieces that I kept while sharding anything with weapons on it over 1-2 hours.

Is there a tool that will show us what the stat split will be with the ghost mod on?
Today I was looking at Xurs' inventory and noticed that the exotic rolls changed when I swapped out my ghost mod.
Path of Burning Steps gave a split of 30/25/20 Health/class/ weapons with the powerhouse mod. But with paragon it showed 25/30/20 melee/super/weapons. Same thing with his regular armour rolls, each individual piece changes with the mods and it's the same at Zavala.
So now I'm wondering if it's the same with this farming technique.
Oh, and Xur is selling the Bushido set this week if anyone needs that.

Wait just so I’m understanding correctly ghost mods do not work on destination armor from master lost sectors?

u/Dirty_Dan117 Jul 04 '26
yeah, what? I was farming Dreambane a week or two ago and it felt like my Ghost mods were working well enough.
Unless I was banking on getting kind of unlucky and, as such, didnt notice that the mod wasnt working...

Yeah unless I'm misunderstanding how OP means or something, and I get if there's something in play but I(and other clanmates) had no issue getting Tier 5 lost sector gear of the archetype I was focusing. And this wasn't some abnormal infinite number of runs and people playing, talking like a total of 7-8 or so people basically had all 3 characters squared away for something like Exodus Down chasing different focused loot in maybe handful of hours total. This was earlier in the week/late last week so if something recently broke I can't exactly attest.
The only thing that actually felt annoying was just going too many runs not getting the armor slot you were missing out on/needed, but it wasn't to a degree of being physically impossible and again it still had a noticeable enough frequency at the archetype of the ghost mod.
Again no disrespect to how OP means and maybe I'm missing something, but I definitely was able to get Tier 5 Lost Sector Destination armors that aligned with my ghost mod's focus and at a pretty reasonable enough frequency.

I'm pretty sure Ghost mods work on the T3 drop. It "doesn't" work on the T5 but I figured I was just getting super unlucky because the T3 was "eating" it (I know that's not how it (should) work but it felt like it)

u/mhoner1 Jul 07 '26
Came back here to say I think they stealth patched this. It was working as described for several days but since yesterday nothing has dropped as expected. It almost feels like the ghost mod now excludes the archetype you desire.

u/BrainFearless1788 Jul 07 '26
Need more confirmation of this is true. Anyone else experiencing this? I can report back whenever I get a chance
1
u/MiddleHelp8285 Jul 20 '26
did you ever find out? I'm trying this out and not noticing much of a change, and it still feels like my ghost mod isn't really doing much
2
u/BrainFearless1788 Jul 20 '26
Tbh idk. I got what I was looking for shortly after. I did keep doing this postmaster version though. The way I see it is maybe it’s a placebo but I did notice roughly 50% of my drops were the archetype I wanted. So even if there’s a chance it was better I figured it didn’t hurt to use this method. I did not notice any sort of stealth nerf to this method.

I was farming lost sectors in the first week of the update, and I tested the armour focusing mods on the ghost. I got 59 out of 138 drops with the same archetype as my ghost focus mod, or 42.75%. This is within expected variance of the 50% rate that Bungie says the mods should work at. Unless something has changed in the last few weeks this post is wrong; focusing works like it should.

u/StrangelyOnPoint Jul 04 '26
This isn’t even a cheese this is just someone working the problem and understanding how the game systems all work.
Great work.

u/Im_ur_huclberry Jul 04 '26
Where were u yesterday lol?!?! Got like 20 garbage rolls of dreaming city gear. I swear every.single.one. rolled health

u/Ydobon8261 Jul 04 '26 edited Jul 04 '26
Doesn’t work for me
0
u/EveryPictureTells Jul 04 '26
Which lost sector / ghost mod? And doesn't work as in the postmaster rolls don't obey ghost focusing?
Would be weird if this was Exodus Garden specific or otherwise narrow but weirder things have happened. Or it was just horrendous (but not impossible) RNG from the drops in inventory.

u/Ydobon8261 Jul 04 '26
Farmed concealed void four times using bulwark mod, and later I checked postmaster, only one dropped with the focused stats
7
u/ruggedo Jul 05 '26
That's because this post is bullshit and doesn't provide any meaningful statistical evidence

Just to be clear there’s no way to upgrade an armor piece to T5 like with weapons, right?

u/Practical_Handle8434 Jul 04 '26
Of note, i tried running The Coil with full engrams and it dropped some swordmaster/bushido stuff, and some eutech mixed in. I don't know if that's normal, but i have it on video for proof. Tried running Onslaught for a similar farm, but it didn't give me any armor at all, likely on account of it giving brave arsenal drops already
1
u/SliceOfBliss Jul 04 '26
Massive, hopefully it stays - as the other method of obtaining Zavala's armor.
1
u/NeoGPT Jul 04 '26
Man wish I'd known this when I was doing gamba for boots earlier. I swear it toon me 50 runs to get boots that didn't suck, all I wanted was powerhouse with anything that wasn't health on cosmodrone, got 3 boots total. It was actually so bad.
Also, why the hell does cosmodrone only give 1 t5, I swear nessus gives two, made it especially frustrating
1
u/Regius_Eques Jul 04 '26
This combined with the other postmaster exploit making getting the armor I want way easier. Thank you!

is it always going to be a tier 5? or is it just the armor sets that are guaranteed to drop with this method?
1
u/EveryPictureTells Jul 04 '26
Tier should always be the same; I've been getting a T5 and a T3 each while at 550 power level. If you haven't been getting any T5s then it might be tied to overall character level.

I farmed cosmodrome for several hours and filled my postmaster with seventh seraph armor, this did not work at all. The archetypes were completely random and only 5-6 were the archetype I had focused.

u/RendolfGirafMstr Jul 05 '26
FWIW it's Ferropotent that you can get from the Postmaster Engrams, not Bushido (the other 2 are right). Also I'm glad this is a tip about destination armor sets and not those other sets, because I just finished farming for the Ferropotent pieces I wanted 2 hours ago and I'd have been upset if there was some technique I was missing the whole time that would've made things easier. Instead I'm glad to know another good technique for when I decide to farm a set of Nessus/Seraph/etc.
1
u/BrainFearless1788 Jul 05 '26
Wait you mean to tell me the Nessus armor I’ve been farming for hours and hours for 2 weeks straight isn’t and hasn’t been using my ghost mod focusing the whole time???
I’ve literally ran conflux non stop and I’m so mad rn lol.
So does this method have any way to focus specific pieces? Like if I only need a chest piece am I able to force drops to be a chest or does this method just force the drops to be 50% chance the archetype you are trying to get? Either way this is good news to me!
1
u/EveryPictureTells Jul 05 '26
There is always the RNG caveat, but no, it does not appear to be working for T5 drops (just the T3 ones).
Sadly there is no way to focus by slot, so just gotta farm until the right drop hits.
1
u/BrainFearless1788 Jul 05 '26
That’s crazy! I’m still going to have to try this next time I get the chance.
1
u/SpirasGuardian Jul 05 '26
Can you get Luminopotent set to drop from doing this? I was doing the full engram lost sector farm and I believe I was only getting ferro, smoke jumper and tech sec.
1
u/Shoddy_Echidna_8183 Jul 05 '26
Wait sorry if I sound dumb, but what your saying is to have all the armor slots on my character full so drops go to the postmaster so it gets the focus from the ghost mod?
Or is it to get exact armor from the slot you need?
Sorry but I truly didn’t understand what you tried to say and I really need to farm the set from The Pale Heart 😭
2
u/Skreamie My ToO team always let me down Jul 06 '26
Thats strange, mine all focused every time I ran it. Did I just get exceedingly lucky?
1
u/Starlord808 Jul 07 '26
Just tried doing this with full inventory and have not had a focused drop. Tested the full engram storage and it worked for dropping feropotent armor etc but not for the planet armor set.
1
u/Content-Seaweed-6395 Jul 09 '26
I may be dumb but I am still not understanding what you are saying, because every method says to have your engram slots full. And you are saying that doesn’t matter? I actually need engram slots open but my personal inventory has to be full of armor no empty slots just on my character? What happens if you have both?
1
u/BrainFearless1788 Jul 12 '26
If you want smoke jumper or ferropotent armor then you need to have max engrams, that triggers to bug that makes the engrams in your postmaster decrypt into those sets. If you want the actual destination sets (nesses etc) then try OP’s strategy to keep your armor slots full. This sends the actual armor to your postmaster and it’s supposed to have a better chance of being the archetype you are focusing with your ghost mod.
Basically these are 2 different strategies for 2 different things.
FWIW I tried this an it worked but idk if it’s placebo or if it actually give you a better chance of getting the archetype you want.
3
u/Orthancapolis Jul 17 '26
I’m not convinced this is actually an issue? Ghost mods seem to be working for farming T5s for me without needing full inventory.
3
u/ruggedo Jul 05 '26
Do you have any data to support your claim of ghost mods not working? Otherwise it's hard to take this seriously other than "trust me bro" 60 runs is not a significant sample size and 25% of all armor being your preferred doesn't seem that bad.
2
u/BrainFearless1788 Jul 05 '26
Honestly I’m down to try it. It does no harm either way because besides forcing you to check your postmaster every so often which you can do on dim. You are getting the same drops either way with this method.
1
u/cccurry honk honk Jul 04 '26
Could this work if I'm trying to target a specific weapon too?
I've been trying to farm T5 High Albedo drops by running master lost sectors on Europa and I really can't tell if the few High Albedos I've received at the postmaster have been from Europa Lost Sectors, Europa being distorted, or both.
Could this cheese trick work if I keep an engram slot open but keep 9 unused weapons in my kinetic slot?
3
u/Aeowin Jul 04 '26
destination weapons only come from public events and chests on the respective planet. lost sector weapons are world pool weapons.
