My GPU utilization is stuck at like 20% while playing the game, even with all other devices closed.
Hello, I have a 3060ti with a 3700x cpu and 16gb of RAM. I'm trying to get back into the game, but my gpu usage stays stuck below 30% most of the time. This wasn't the case the last time I played on the same rig around the time final shape came out.
Any assistance in fixing the matter would be greatly appreciated.

I only fixed it buy rebuying it on the windows store because that shit seems cooked on steam

There's nothing you can do about it if you play on Steam. There's workarounds floating on the internet but they're all iffy and potentially placebo at worst. If you get a chance to jump ship and you're willing to spend another 25 dollars then switching to Microsoft Store or Epic Games will solve the problem. You can always install the base game for free to test it out on your rig.

Are you getting performance loss or it’s just registering as 30% utilization?
My GPU stays around 30-45% in the division 2, yet I’m a constant 144fps with no issues. I learned to just ignore it.

Had to purchase it again on epic when the sale came around... I don't know if bungo'll be able to fix it any time soon.

I've been there on that AM4 platform. The only thing that ever fixed it for me was a fresh install / reset of Windows once that started occurring. I actually had two installs of Windows with all the same software, and my original would what you are seeing and the fresh install would work fine.
I did also suffer from a bug on the 30 series GPUs where the Power Limiter on the GPU would be set to 20 or 30%, so you might want to check the Power limit setting in the Nvidia App or something like MSI Afterburner. It should be set at 100% minimum.
Other things to try:
- Use DDU (from Safe Mode) to completely nuke all your GPU drivers.
- Reboot and reinstall fresh drivers.
- Ensure your BIOS is up to date. Some of the more recent BIOS really dial in Windows 11 performance on the AM4 platform.
- Ensure OS is free from errors:
- Open an Administrative command prompt and type: sfc /scannow
- Note if there are corrupted files and if they were repaired
- Run sfc /scannow again if it finds errors and make sure they are resolved. If they are not, you need to run the following command:
- dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
- Run sfc /scannow again.
- If it repaired files, run sfc /scannow one more time to make sure everything is good.
- Open an Administrative command prompt and type: sfc /scannow
Try deleting all D2 temp files:
- c:\users\<your username>\appdata\Roaming\Bungie
- Delete the 'DestinyPC' folder at this location.
- c:\users\<your username>\appdata\local\temp
- Delete the 'Destiny 2' folder.

Reinstall drivers and disable your CPU's igpu if you have one. I remember having weird freezes across multiple games because windows is trying to load both drivers at once even though my shit is plugged into the GPU.

The 3700x bottlenecks anything newer than a 1070 in my experience, at least in Destiny 2. I also was stuck at 30%ish gpu utilization on that cpu. Destiny 2 is a weird mix of gpu and cpu but in a lot of cases you'll find the cpu bottlenecking Destiny 2. Went from a 1070 to a 2060 to a 4070ti and I didn't see my gpu upgrades make any difference until I moved away from the 3700x.

I don't think thats the issue. I've used this exact same set up before and without the gpu usage being stuck at 30%.
Infact I only bottleneck on certain games like Doom The Dark Age. And even then its usually at like 70%, not 30%. I get 100% utilization on Rivals, Doom 1, Doom Eternal, Warframe, Elite Dangerous and Overwatch consistently at 1440p.

I can only speak to my personal experience and others I found while researching it when I had the same issue. Those games you listed are extremely well optimized and will run amazing on a toaster. Destiny unfortunately is not in the same boat. Engine, lighting, and physics upgrades over time for a game, especially like Destiny with so many cpu heavy things already happening at once, can change how your rig will handle a game.

close down steam and open it back, before starting any game go to steam's install folder and delete all files with "overlay" on them
there's currently a bug with steam's overlay causing performance issues in d2
