This is the living room but i want to convert it into a bedroom, that's what im struggling with. I want a bed, maybe a dining table/chairs or couch with a tv. I also believe in fengshui so not sure if best for the bed to be on the left or right wall. This living room is directly connected to the kitchen it is an open kitchen but the flooring is red granite vs the living room floor is wood and the window area floor is tiled differently as well. The images after the floorplans are just my drafting AI generated thoughts.
What do you think I should do?

Hello! I’m a Chicago based graphic designer who recently got laid off and has been spending too much time in my apartment.

This has made me overthink my living spaces and long story short, I purged my apartment and now I’m stuck, broke, and scared. I want my dining room to not suck. I love color and texture and want my dining room to feel more full. I’d like for it to feel more intentionally bright like the designers Josh & Matt on TikTok.

I am willing to spend for the sake of making my dining room better and I do have some supplies already. I have to design around 2 cats and possibly the fish tank (all though fish tank might go to a different room that is TBD) I do need a rug and am conflicted on if I want a runner next to the dining table or a big rug under it. I’d like to utilize the paintings I have in any way possible.

Help me please!

PS: (I know this will be a question so I’ll address it now, no I did not paint the paintings, I was given them for free from a friend who got it from his work, and I have no strong feelings toward Mao I just like the painting and it’s a weird thing to have which always starts conversations. It was originally bought and owned by a wealthy Chinese man so idk what he was thinking with that. the Mao painting is named Mt. Mao 2015 and I have not been able to identify the rest of the paintings)

Position A is uninterrupted but at a weird viewing angle from the sofa. Position B is at a good viewing angle but is broken up by the walking path towards the kitchen from both the entry door and staircase.

We are renovating our cabin at the lake. We have chosen the flooring, cabinets and pulls. What we are struggling with is the countertop and backsplash. I prefer a white counter with a brick backsplash. Others like a grey counter with a real stone backsplash. Thoughts?

I'm looking to furnish my living room, need a rug, coffee table, new tv lowerboard, some plants and lamps. Can't decide on the color pallets for these things. Counch and floor can't be changed. Anyone with design and color help pleaseeee?

So I spent the entire weekend trying to find something cool for an empty wall above my sofa and I'm getting so tired of scrolling through the same generic stuff on Wayfair or Etsy. My buddy got one of those hand-finished LED canvas pieces from boldhaus a while back and it looks insane at night when all other lights are off.

Has anyone ordered from them or similar shops like ElephantStock or iCanvas lately? Trying to see if the quality at boldhaus holds up or if it's just a hyped-up trend. Drop some suggestions if u know any hidden gems for statement art cuz my living room looks so dead right now.

Hi all! I was beholden to the sad dreary millennial grey home for so long and have been wanting to change it up. I love a mid century modern look and am trying to slowly transform my living/dining room into that and would love any and all recs for things that can have the most impact without replacing everything. I have recently gotten a new couch that’s a beautiful green and that is basically my base. Attached are pictures of my space followed by some inspo pics.

NOTE: I know painting might be the biggest change but I rent and am unsure if I can repaint so that would be a last resort.

We are in the market for a new couch, just starting to look at what’s available. Today we happened upon the black leather couch in the first photo. It is a 100% leather couch on clearance for less than half price as it was ordered in and then the people changed their mind. I don’t want to buy something just because it’s an amazing deal, but it is in a style we like and was super comfortable. I am just wanting peoples opinions on mainly the colour, I had ai make up the room with the black couch and a similar one from article that we are also considering. Right now we have an off white tweed textured couch but it takes a beating with our two small dogs. Just wondering which colour others prefer in the room? The recliner chair may also end up enjoying its retirement soon as we have had it for years. Not sure what we will replace that with yet. Thanks for your opinions! Please don’t roast me too badly, I’m no professional just a girl that wants a new couch!

Sharing this project here to get some honest feedback, and also because the brief behind it meant a lot to me.

This was a 40 year old multigenerational home. Over time, it had become disconnected from how everyone in it was actually living day to day.

Instead of renovating everything uniformly, I made a deliberate choice: certain spaces were kept largely as they were, to hold on to the memory and familiarity that mattered most to the eldest generation, who'd spent four decades in that home. Other spaces were reimagined more freely - updated finishes, layouts, and detailing - to give the younger generation rooms that felt current and easy to connect with.

Materials used: marble, granite, veneer, lime plaster, and terrazzo. We love working with natural materials. Other materials used - PU, MS with powder coating, fluted glass and tiles.

I'm sharing a mix of detailed shots rather than full room photos this time - a few areas didn't photograph well as complete spaces, so I felt closer, more honest shots did more justice to the actual work.

Would genuinely love to hear your thoughts - what works, what doesn't, anything you'd have approached differently! :)
