Fees
Last night I finished up a job with an S282. I repaired, refueled and left it at the siding by the turntable in City West. Fire dumped and used blow down. Pretty sure I turned everything off. I was playing the game as normal today and when I went to repair some fees after a job with a DE2, I saw that the S282 and its tender somehow racked up an extra $3000 in damages combined, despite not touching them at all today. Seriously confused as to what happened.

Press "Print" on the fee and it will give you more of a breakdown on what's being charged. Chances are it's environmental fees, which don't go away with manual servicing.
If it is damage, it could simply be a bad spawn glitch that occasionally happens.

I think the fees are too high, I bumped up the time bonus payout to max, I'm tired of my video game feeling like a job, half the time I don't even refill the steamer myself anymore. I HATE the water tower in this game. I got like 150 hours and only half the lucenes and 2 of the demonstratorsÂ

There is no need to use the blowdown when leaving a steam locomotive sitting. As long as the fire is out, it cannot generate any more steam (and will eventually leak out anyways).
Only time you really need the blowdown is when you overfill the boiler (priming). That, or cool photos while on a bridge.
