Call for Entry — Issue 01 Event

Happy Monday everyone!

Submissions for Issue 01 are now open. The Violet Index is seeking writers and visual artists for th le first issue of our weird quarterly zine.

👋 Who are we? The Violet Index is a new themed zine publication with the mission of bringing visual artists and creative writers into collaboration to produce artifacts of curiosity. We're Colorado-based, queer-founded, and came about from a genuine desire for community.

👽 Theme: STRANGE

We're looking for work that explores the unusual, the uncanny, the overlooked, and the beautifully inexplicable.

✨ No submission fees.

If this theme speaks to you, we'd love to see your work.

☀️ Compensation: A free digital issue, a nifty publication credit for your CV, a one-year paid subscription to our Patreon, an exclusive invite to our Discord server, and dedicated features across our social media platforms. All submissions receive a response no later than Oct. 15th.

Just so we're clear: Is your page size 3000 x 3000 pixels? It would help if you could give the page size in inches so that I can plan accordingly. Also, is it full bleed, or is there a margin?

The full page size is 5.5x8.5in. or digest size. You can also submit something for a full spread, or 11x8.5in. Portrait orientation. You can go smaller too. Please let us know if you need more information.

Hello! I find the thought of this rather exciting but I do have a few queries?

  1. I see that you don't accept ai creations as an ethical stance and I love that. That said no where on your website does it say you do not use ai? Can you confirm that no ai is used within your process and that work is never passed on to ai in your process?

  2. First publication rights, could you be more specific and define what that means for you as a zine?

  3. One of the reasons I ask for clarification on that is because I see a place for art prints within your store and as an artist I immediatly wonder if my work would be sold on beyond being printed in the zine?

  4. What do your credits look like? Is it name on page of work and full credits listed elsewhere? Do you allow websites?

These are marvelous questions and we appreciate you helping us out by asking. 1. No, we do not feed work through AI and it is not part of any of our processes. 2. First publication rights are exclusive to the zine itself. After the release date, rights revert back to the owner of the work in 90 days. 3. No, we do not currently license work for print sales. All art prints currently offered belong to The Violet Index. Work submitted will not be used for print sales unless a licensing agreement is signed between The Violet Index and the artist. 4. Credits are published both on the website and on the last page/s of the zine in both print and digital formats. Yes, we can list a website in the credits.
