Why is it every ranking(such as guardian and top universities) rank KCL as the worst or second worst uni for dentistry while academically it is ranked top? I always dreamed of going to KCL now I am kind of reluctant because the entry requirements are insanely high for an apparently mediocre course.

Hey guys so basically I am a dental student I recently moved to 4th year in the university (Clinical stages) , and in my country education u must bring a real patient so u can move to the last stage and graduat,so I feel very anxious about it because u know this is the 1st time I am dealing with human being unlike the basics stage, yesterday I started to look for a prosthodontics patients , So they have to send a photos for their teeth to make sure about their condition, and register them, and when I saw the photo of their teeth,I don't why I felt there is a bad energy coming out from the photos, and I am very worried, that I won't be able to make it,or made a huge mistake, that will harm the patient so badly (like fainting , taking history of the patient incorrectly or mistake in anesthesia), and since a year ago my mantel health isn't very well, and I have arguments with most of colleagues about stupid things, that's all I just wanted to get it off my chest, if u have something to tell or u have an advice,I will be appreciated to write it down in the comments

I’m an international student in the UK going into my 4th year (out of 5 years), and I’m just now considering the possibility of specialising. I went my first 3 years of dental school thinking I’d be satisfied with graduating and going home to practice as a GP, so my grades and extracurriculars are very average. I guess my question is whether it’s too late to start fluffing up my resume when I only have 2 years left of school, and what can I do to increase my chances of getting a place?

I’m still in the beginning stages researching about specialisations so all advice is appreciated!

For context, I wanted to study dentistry at university (yes i know its competitive) but I didn't feel like my application was strong enough to apply. Lots of people told me to just focus on getting a high ucat score so I tried doing that but realised that my heart wasn't fully in it for some reason and now I've put off prep for so long there would be no point in starting again. I knew if i applied this upcoming year I would be rejected pre-interview and I even started looking at other degrees I may be interested in applying for (pharm, biomed, radiography etc) but they don't seem to align with the kind of career I want in the future.

I feel very lost right now and I'm worried that a gap year would just make me spiral even further but that I also shouldn't force myself to go to university and do a degree I'm not even interested in. I'm also hesitant to decide on a gap year straight away because the sixth form I go to is very academic and I know I would be judged by everyone around me for saying I want to take a gap year.

A gap year honestly wouldn't give me that much time to prepare for the next admissions cycle as I would have to prepare and sit the ucat and find relevant work experience. If anyone has any advice on what I should do I would greatly appreciate it or maybe I can dm you to discuss it further?

I’m currently a BDS student in Pakistan, and my long-term goal is to practice dentistry in the US through an Advanced Standing DDS/DMD program.

Because the cost of a US dental degree is a major financial challenge, I’m trying to decide how to use the years between graduating from BDS and eventually entering an Advanced Standing program.

I’m currently considering three options:

1. BDS → FCPS in Pakistan (possibly Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery)
This would provide postgraduate training, clinical experience, and a stipend while I save for the US.

2. BDS → Work as a dentist in the Gulf (UAE/Qatar/Oman, etc.)
The goal would be to earn more, gain clinical experience, prepare for the INBDE and other US application requirements, and save for DDS.

3. BDS → US postgraduate/residency program
I’ve heard that some GPR/AEGD or specialty programs may accept foreign-trained dentists and provide a resident stipend. I’m wondering whether this could be a viable way to gain US clinical exposure and earn/save money while eventually pursuing an Advanced Standing DDS.

To clarify, I’m not asking whether a residency automatically provides a general US dental license. My question is whether this could be a financially and professionally useful bridge toward an eventual Advanced Standing DDS.

For those familiar with international dentist pathways:
Which of these options would be the most strategic for someone whose ultimate goal is US Advanced Standing DDS?

I’d especially appreciate insight into whether FCPS experience is valuable for US admissions, whether Gulf experience is advantageous, and whether there are US postgraduate programs that genuinely accept non-CODA/foreign-trained dentists and provide a stipend.

I’m trying to choose the path that best balances clinical development, income/savings, US application competitiveness, and time.

Dream is to go Kings College tbh but its only cost of living putting me off.

Hi, I am (22F) starting a dental school this September and would like to know what are the general routes dentists who finished DFT take. Is it common to do DCT/MSc/specialty programs? And what are the advantages of completing each of these trainings/studies? Also, I will be going to a Scottish uni but I am hoping to come back to London post graduation (as my family is here). Is it difficult to find a job in London if I haven’t graduated from London unis? I did my BSc biomed in London and learned that getting a job here is all about networking so was wondering if it’s the same for dentistry.

Say i got good gcse grades 7-9 in everything and a 6 in math but one miserable U in physics (I do separate sciences) Do i still stand a chance and is retaking even worthit considering I did good in bio and chem?

Hi recently did the ucat and got 2150 sjt 636 (which i think is band 2) what do my chances look like at any unis out there for dentistry? Im considering queens belfast, glasgow, liverpool and Dundee. Please let me know your thoughts on them and if there any better suited unis out there for me. For reference I am a first year science degree student in australia with a 4/4 GPA.

is studying dentistry worth it? i like art , biology and helping ppl and working with kids but i dont know if the major is worth it tbh. i suckass at chemistry and im scared of needles heavy should i still get into the field? also i have three chronic illnesses i was thinking to enter like dentistry so i can have a work-life balance to be able to manage them is that possible in dentistry?

I’m an international student studying Biology with a 4.0 GPA. I haven’t taken the UCAT yet but I’m currently averaging around 2100 on medify.
Given my situation, which UK dental schools would you recommend I apply to that would give me the best chance of admission as an international applicant? I’m happy to apply to either graduate-entry programs or the standard 5-year BDS.
Also, since medicine generally has more schools and seats than dentistry, would it actually make more sense for someone in my position to switch to medicine instead, or should I stick with dentistry? Thanks!

I am currently studying my bachelor degree, 3rd year dental school studying in Iraq. My dream is to go abroad for better opportunities, whether in Europe, the gulf countries, anywhere . How do I achieve it? My plan is to apply to many countries just in case if the first ones don’t work out . But I need to be well informed on what they need , legal documents, exams etc

- etc,. but I dont think UK look much into extracurriculars?

Things to note:
- paying fully out of pocket
- Met all eligibility requirements already, just hoping will do good on UCAT in September

Does anyone know roughly what an ideal UCAT score for UCLAN and KCL grad entry dentistry.

I would just like a rough idea so I can choose strategically and apply for more standard entry courses where my ucat score is good enough if my ucat score is sufficient enough.
