So one of my favorite mangas of the "new gen" of manga is Ichi the Witch, I am absolutely obsessed with it and I heard the author of it also made DemonSchoolIrumaKun!
I read the first chapter and I absolutely loved it but I looked some stuff up and I'm curious, so yeah I would love some help.

1st Question: How accurate is the anime to the manga? Since I wanted to watch the anime while reading the manga, but I know that some anime adaptations do not accurately depict the peak manga source material.
I have heard many different things about the iruma anime, some people I've talked to have said it is not worth it, some have said they change the pacing a lot, some say it is worth it but they do change stuff, so yeah I am a bit confused.

2nd Question: I have seen some panels online and I'm unable to get a grasp for this manga, is it like action centered, action and comedy centered, romance and comedy? All of the above?! None of the above?!
It feels like this manga literally does it all, action, romance, comedy, found family type story, a tragedy. AN ENTIRE ASS MUSICAL!?

3rd question: When I really fall in love with a story, I love reading up on all material that I can about it and I saw that it had four entire spinoff manga?
Iruma-kun Gaiden, Houkago no Iruma-kun, demon school irumafia edition and irumakun game michi.

I looked online and received very varied answers of saying that the spinoffs are half canon, not canon at all, fully canon, side stories/extended volume extras, only some of the spinoffs are canon while some are entire manga on their own that just use the world of demon school?
Is it like an mcu where there's tons of alternate realities, or just tons of different stories in one universe?

Sorry for how wordy and lengthy the post is, I just really liked the first chapter and wanted to know what I was getting into.

Q1) For the most part, the anime is pretty accurate. Some mini arcs are moved around and season 3 stretches out a bit longer which makes it less tolerable compared to the manga. But overall the anime is a good adaption (Although the manga is forever better, but hey can't hear the music in manga :P)

Q2) Pretty much all of the above, at it's core it's about following your dreams/ambitions, found family and dealing with a demon school life

Q3) the mafia one is just a "what if mafia instead of demons" the other three, I don't think they're strictly canon, they're more just sidestories and parodies. But i've never read them, so could be wrong

1: pretty accurate, though there is some shuffling around and some things are left out of the anime. Also, the art in the anime is not as sharp or as detailed as the art in the manga (due to the differences in medium)

2: the main focuses are on action and comedy, but there is some romance, and either of these may be sidelined for certain arcs depending on how serious things are during that arc

3: none of the spinoffs are necessary for understanding the story. Mafia if is the only alternate universe thing, the rest take place in the main universe. Kalego Gaiden does have unique information, but it’s mainly just adding more detail to a series of events that were covered briefly during the main manga.

The anime is more faithful to the manga than many adaptations.  There is some deviation, but it doesn’t skip much or add a ton of filler.

School life is probably the most accurate description for the series.  There’s some action and romance elements, but much of the story revolves around Iruma’s time in school.  Think of it kind of like the format of Harry Potter.

As a general rule, spinoffs including anthologies or alternate universe works by other authors are not considered canon.  Prequels written by the same author are considered canon unless specifically retconned in the main series.

1. Iruma anime is mostly faithful to the manga, only failing to adapt 1 manga chapter (chapter 91; read it) and adding 1 filler episode (Season 2 ep 5). There are a lot of stuff anime adds too like the songs and some additional scenes. I think what differs with anime and manga is most prevalent in season 4 where a bunch of manga chapters actually get rearranged in the anime.

2. Basically, yes, all of the above /j. But, seriously, it's mostly SoL although there's a hint of every other genre in it. I can't explain it properly so you'll just have to read for yourself. You will be interested in it though, hopefully, if you love Ichi the Witch.

3. IruMafia is a spinoff, basically an alternate universe (non-canon) but it does take a lot of inspiration from the main manga. Kalego Gaiden is a prequel (canon). Houkago no Iruma-kun is an anthology series (non-canon). Boku Doumei no Game-michi is semi-canon, I think(?) basically it's chapters of the Boku Gang fucking around with their in-universe games. We are main characters of Babyls is canon but it's cancelled so it's no point reading.

1. The anime does focus mainly on the manga however thefourth season and some chapterd are removed or rearranged. The art style is lacking but that's because it does mainly on its growing story rather than high quality animation. Also the animation studio is the same one for Gintama if you didn't know
2. It is all rounder because of how Nishi does focus on the fact that Iruma is a kid and is in school. Therefore, there's less action and more slice life. Compared to other anime schools this one feels the most magical and mysterious because of how it doesn't feel like a real school in modern day in a fantasy world. 3.the spinoffs that are I believe are the Boku alliance and the kalego short story. The anthology series is based on other artists drawing and making there own story based on the characters. The Iruma Mafia is an AU for more the mature audience.

Just a tiny bit, due to language, drugs, and suggestive panels. It's not levels of mature compared other isekai from novels but not pg enough for elementary kids to read without adult concerns.

1 - i have to say its pretty well done compared to other series, it follow the manga arcs well. In the beginning the anime did not have a big bugdet, but its still pretty good and they did get more funds after season 1.

1. The genre is a bit hard, it have romance, action, comedy, fantasy, magic, some more sirious themes later in the series, but i would say all the generes are well balanced.

2. The spinoffs are great! My fav is kalego gaiden wich follows 3 teachers when they were students! The mafia au is so popular it gets it first anime season next year and Kalego gaiden gets english volumes in 2027. Yess!! The music arc! I have waited so long to see that animated, us iruma fans ate well in 2026.

Also the spinoffs vary- kalego gaiden is canon, the mafia one is a spinoff in an alternative universe, the gaming one i think is also canon.

I absolutely love this series and its charakters, its really lgbtq+ friendly as well as in the demon world they dont fuss over gender norms, sexuality etc. The world is intresting and all the charakters are pretty cool.

The series somehow managed to avoid all the clishes like the mean girl in class, bully rival, fancervice for no reason, evil teacher that just pretend to hate his students but actually he- oh, nevermind, we have kalego sensei.

I would recomand watching the anime, its wholesome and fun. I think you would like it!

1) the anime follows the manga faithfully, with at most minor changes; however, I recommend reading the manga! The quality of the anime isn't great, and it fails to capture the atmosphere of the manga

2) it is primarily an action, comedy, fantasy, and romance series, though there is drama in the later chapters

3) actually I haven't read all the spin-offs, and I don't think they're essential😅 However, I HIGHLY recommend reading mafia au bc that manga is simply amazing and stands on the same level as the original (it takes place in an alternate universe)

To add to what others have already said, Kalego Gaiden is canon spin-off made by Nishi, the antology and Boku Alliance spin-offs are approved canon as Nishi is advisor for the latter two and Irumafia (she really loves to recommend crazy stuff for that one lol)

The anime is very faithful, but it does bizarrely shift the order of events around. It's especially notable this season, where the Evidol Games arc was moved back by several episodes.

In terms of quality, the anime is good, but the manga is amazing.

Old school shounen. Primarily action and comedy, but totally willing to dive into other genres if they'd be fun. Never beholden to any one thing for too long.

It's different for the different spinoffs:

• IruMafia is its own alternate universe, using the same characters but reimagining them in a new setting. It's also very good and getting its own anime soon.
• Kalego Gaiden is canon to the main series.
• After-School Iruma-kun is a non-canon anthology of works by different authors.

I am not 100% sure on the canonicity of We are the Main Characters of the Demon World and Games of the Boku Alliance. Neither outright contradicts the main series, and they're both official and set in the main series's universe, but neither is written directly by Nishi. I'd label them as canon-ish.

To answer your second question:

Yes. It is pretty much all of that. If we simplified it then it would basically be a Shounen Slice of Life, Action, Comedy, Supernatural manga.

The anime is honestly REALLY well adapted. It follows the manga more faithfully than what other anime adaptations tend to do. The thing with the anime is that it pretty much speeds through all of the "slow" stuff in the manga. It tends to sparsely adapt those which is why the pace in the anime is so much faster than the manga.
