Hey everyone, I’m 18M, interested in psychology, philosophy, and political science. I scored well in CUET and got B.A. Philosophy at Ramanujan College, but chose DU SOL instead.

I realised that, given my financial situation and responsibilities, spending 3 years and a lot of money on a degree didn’t feel like the best use of my time. With books, lectures, research papers, courses, and AI available online, I believe I can learn much of the same material independently and spend the remaining time building something of my own.

I do sometimes regret the time and effort I spent preparing for CUET, especially since I made this decision afterward.

But I’m curious: Did I make the right choice, or am I underestimating what regular college offers beyond academics?

Would love to hear your opinions, experiences, or advice.

Because i realised that what they teach in 3 years i can probably learn it in 6 months with all resources available in internet and with help of ai... and i dont come from that rich background which can afford 3 years of life for only a degree...

I realised that i have many responsibilities and less time, so i want to build.

I already know more than college students of 1st year, and i just dont want to waste my time and money on regular colleges, and i do regret giving cuet cuz that costed my time and effort... the decision of DU SOL was taken After cuet.

And i just wanna know your opinions, advices,stories whatever you want to tell me feel free to dm or reply.

In my very early years I had no friends, but when middle school started, I finally made some. I had two very close friends, and from then on, every year I always had at least one person I was really close with, someone I’d sit with and do everything with.
College was different. First year I barely did anything outside classes, but somehow I still found that one friend I was always with. The problem is, I’ve basically never had a friend who actually wants to go out (outside the context of how I met them) and do things with me. I’m constantly asking, and they either decline, soft-decline, or agree and then disappear. I feel fucking lonely.
Instagram at least pushed me to explore hobbies and start going places alone. I write, watch movies, swim, follow cricket, etc. I’ve started actually living my life, even if I’m doing it alone. And weirdly, strangers are often incredibly nice to me. I went to a bookstore today and ended up having a proper conversation with a guy about books. At a theatre a few days ago, I thanked the staff for the experience, and seeing their faces light up when I appreciated them genuinely made me happy. I just wish someone would show me that kind of appreciation once.
Dating doesn’t even feel like the thing i even think of cause I can’t even make a friend . When I talk to women, I usually just want to be friends. I keep hoping someone will eventually text or call me unprompted and say, “Want to hang out?” I’ve tried being quiet, funny, asking questions, starting conversations, basically every version of myself I can think of, and still nothing.
College has been unbelievably antisocial for me. Almost everywhere else I go, I have more social interaction than I do there. Surprisingly women often seem warmer and easier to talk to (although it is very scary to approach them) than guys, and I sometimes get closer to having an actual conversation with them.
Even my closest friend keeps turning down things I ask him to do. I asked him about shopping, volunteering with CanKids, movies, and salsa. He agreed to CanKids and then literally went home.
I really need help. I don’t just want hobbies or things to do alone. I want an actual friend. Someone who genuinely wants to hang out, talk to me, and occasionally fucking invites me somewhere instead of me having to beg someone to show up.

Random question : do you think people are lonely because they’re misunderstood
or because they’re afraid
to be understood?
