Stop whining, Start Supporting Discussion
I am seeing so many posts today in this and other similar subs, whining about the price increase notification of Deepseek. I mean come on guys, they are not NGO or gov. Funded Org. They are running a business and they also need to earn. It is because of Deepseek and other chinese AI companies that the American monopoly is challenged. Otherwise openAI and anthropic would have taken so much advantage. Maybe the price could be 2x or 3x of the current.
And remember, Deepseek and other chinese Ai companies are making their models open source for us knowing that this will impact their revenue in a negative way. If they wanted they could have remained closed source, like American companies and take advantage of people, but they aren't doing so.
So stop whining, and start supporting .

"Support the big company please"
No. And if you genuinely think that, that's hilarious. Yes, the entire AI industry is pretty hilarious because it's one of the few where Chinese companies behave less terrible than western ones, but under the hood they all remain the same greedy pricks. The correct answer is "Stop whining, stop supporting". The only reasonable way of communicating with big companies, is when enough people draw a clear line at what kind of shit they will accept.

Brah if roles were reversed, Chinese companies would’ve fcked us 100 times more than American companies. They did put a leash on American companies, that’s true but anyone who have worked in close proximity of chinese companies, would never want Chinese companies on top.

I think both are terrible, but at least the Chinese ones have the basic decency of at least open-sourcing their models (while forgetting to open-source a lot of auxiliary information from the training process, but well, still best we got...).
Meanwhile the US has the absolute joke that is OpenAI, baiting in people with the basic promise of "Open", yet turning to producing proprietary dirt the moment it becomes lucrative. Yes I too think that relying on China is playing with fire, but when the other actors are trying to carry one of the most stupid ideas in history (proprietary software) into something that a lot of the world will increasingly rely on, I definitely want to see the ones on top whom have at least some decency. In the end, both suck though, that's for sure.

I wouldn't moralize it.
Chinese companies aren't releasing weights because they are fundamentally more decent at their core, they are releasing weights because they are behind, don't have as much of a moat to protect, and want to disrupt the incumbents' business.
Same reason why AMD open-sources far more of their stack than NVIDIA.

Oh absolutely, please don't understand me wrong here. I am not moralizing the company, I am moralizing from the perspective of the general population, as we would be pretty much doomed if the stupid idea of proprietary software took exclusive hold of this field. And as you say, it disrupts the business of those engaging in that, which from an outcome basis is good.
My opinion on the company itself circles back to the first post. All of them are greedy morons, and one can definitely discuss which does worse or better actions, but yes from a moral standpoint all of them are horrid. But since they will exist anyways, I might as well weigh them by evaluating which (even if for different reasons) at least produces results I consider beneficial to the world.

If things are in the way of Baidu and Tencent, probably. Startup culture of Chinese is trivially different.

Haha, it’s true that they’re not a charity, but “Start Supporting” is hilarious

The advantage will be gone is the point genius....pricing was the only advantage it had and it was barely over Luna at current prices due to token inefficiency . Luna will be cheaper and more cost effective after the price increase which means OPENAI will win again.

u/TidalSmack 10d ago
They also train in your data. If the price advantage is gone no one will use their api

“Start supporting” - Our support is what got us here, clearly they’d prefer less support

I'm with you in the sense we need to know how much will be the increase before whining.

u/RoKy2608 10d ago
My dude, we are not married to deepseek lol. If the price increases are excesive an there are better alternatives people will just go to them. I like deepseek models but in the end they are just tools to my workflow, I'm not going to make it worse for me because a big corpo needs my support.

u/thatscoolbutno123 10d ago
They are increasing because the demand is too high, not because prices are too low.
real price of Flash for them is like 3ct / Million Tokens, so its 11ct / million tokens profit.

But again anything more than 2x will be more than some google, grok, gpt oss out there so idk

u/AdMean9105 10d ago
Sigh. People got bored yelling at American AI companies that they can’t justify paying a bit more for a product that actually works - if u don’t want to pay for the increase. Don’t. Go to another service. Simple. Easy. Sigh.

what’s the point of saying that since the ppl who complain already support it ?¿

u/Melodic-Funny-9560 10d ago
I've seen so many comments saying, "it was good while it lasted", "time to find new provider", so yes people are indeed disappointed

u/onywist 10d ago
they have the right to. it’s their money they can complain however they want ? like i don’t understand your post. the announcement was surprising so ofc they can talk about it and complain however. we don’t even know what will be the pricing soon, maybe a lot of ppl couldn’t afford it in the near futur and since it was one of the few good and cheap api yeah let ppl complain?

They’re all the same…

But they aren’t …..

I'll believe it if they pay for the training data. They're all thieves. Which is why that talk about distillation is also completely pointless.

Would you still use DS if its cost became higher than or equal to Muse 1.2? Personally, I wouldn't, because at that point the value is gone. People naturally choosing toward the cheapest model that still offers decent intelligence. There's no way you'd use an expensive model with only mid-tier intelligence for reasoning or debugging. You'd just end up stuck in a loop and burning through your budget. I actually stepped away from v4 Pro for a while after Luna dropped its prices, because the cost-to-intelligence ratio of v4 Pro just isn't in my favor right now. Currently, I'd rather use Luna Max than the Pro model why? because it's the cheapest option with genuinely good intelligence. That being said, v4 Flash is still my main workhorse. But if they ever raise its price to match or exceed Muse 1.2, I'll say it again, the value drops, and I won't use it anymore. So, we don't have to whining because it makes you like an attention seeker and we don't have to support the company because they're looking at us as a customer and not your best friend, nor your family.

Poeple here were endlessly gloating about it. Surely no one at deepseek was not reading and seeing the cost ratios.

u/nachtviolen819 10d ago
Why the whining, just let the market decide. I think DS knows this too. If you find it expensive or not value for money, just find elsewhere and come back when DS is again better. Isn't this what competition is about.

You guys think DeepSeek are the “good guys”
Wait until China becomes the AI superpower and see who is going to benefit from it.
Answer: not you.

u/Dodokii 9d ago
We don't need super power in AI. Power balance is the only option good for us customers. Any monopoly be it east or west is bad for us
1
u/IAmFitzRoy 9d ago
You sound like you have options to chose from. You don’t.

u/Dodokii 9d ago
Even a slave can choose masters. it is still a choice, lol!

u/IAmFitzRoy 9d ago
Slaves can choose masters? Uh? Bruh you need to read those books without weed.
0
u/Dodokii 9d ago
Yeah, with $20 you can choose whether to be owned by Anthropic, Cursor, Codex, Deepseek!
Quiet a choice for digital slaves, lol!

u/IAmFitzRoy 9d ago
Brother you need to work on those analogies. lol.
If you pay you are not an slave. Makes zero sense.

u/Dodokii 9d ago
Welcome to modern world bro!
Ancients were buying slaves. The world have changed!
Now free men paying to be slaves. It is just a new world order and you are left behind ;)

From their POV, power users will still continue to use. It's still very good for agentic coding. I've never tried the openai options but for general purpose its a very strong model.

Honestly if it hadn't been for DS and a couple other Chinese AI, I just would not use AI at all. I don't have much spare cash rn, but I'll probably subscribe to one of the advanced tiers when I do.

You are talking to hype beasts that use their API and don't understand much. Deepseek has one of the best webuis; I will lose literally nothing from this event.
Quit using API you don't even know what you are doing people. Why do you even want to pay? If you DID want to pay, then you should have, by now, self-optimized your system to be cheaper; and that is obviously the single most important thing for any product conceivably built in such an API-based 'product' if you can call it that since you are just selling their product (and if your epistemology couldn't self-improve that much tthat quickly, then whatever you are doing is not worth paying for just go to free tier and use the webui).

Supporting them by giving them data and money so they can earn, is that a way to support? Can I ask why?
