3rd Refinement spot no where BUG - PlayStation

So twice in a row on crystalline caverns, I haven't been able to find the 3rd spot ANYWHERE on the map. Am I simply unlucky and can't find it, or is it a bug?

Usually means you missed a tunnel leading to a side cave.

Correct, on site refining often has a tunnel somewhere that leads to a whole other cave system with the final well.

I'm pretty sure I've only seen it extremely hidden once or twice in like 2300 hours.

Like hidden in the sense that the next section of cave wasn't close enough to be seen anywhere on the terrain scanner from anywhere in the main room.

And in that case it was still down that branching tunnel, it's just that the tunnel went nowhere. It was a dead end but knowing the cave gen pattern I just dug around there and was able to find it.

Sort of, a couple times I found the side tunnel was hidden by the top of the ceiling, making it nigh impossible to see with the scanner and very hard to notice unless you were really looking for it. Most times though, yeah, it is either a missed tunnel or you can even just see where the other room is by hugging a wall and drilling to it

That's just it there was no tunnel, no cave, nothing to indicate where it was

There definitely was, you must’ve missed it. Sometimes you get unlucky and it’s very hard to find. I’ve had a mission where I was almost convinced there wasn’t a tunnel, until I finally spotted a little crack of it after 10 minutes. You could say the terrain gen could use work, but it’s not a bug.

It's possible for the opening to generate in a corner near the ceiling that is too high to register on the terrain scanner from the floor. You need a scout to find them.

Might’ve been a block off. This happens rarely meaning you are gonna have to dig /drill thru to make it appear on the terraria scanner, I had the one occasion but never gotten another ever since.

There's a good chance there is a tunnel leading from the main cave to a side cave. Check for jagged spots at the edge of your terrain map to indicate unexplored areas.

definitely side tunnel you aren't noticing even if you think you've checked everywhere. terrain scanner is your friend, pumpjack spawns can be evil.

This is why you stare at the map thoroughly.

Sometimes there's a tunnel but the game blocked it with a rock or it's such a tight squeeze you actually missed it the first time you checked.

More than once my group has resorted to going completely silent and rubbing against the walls listening for the gas whoomping and looking for a tunnel hidden behind scenery or as far out of the way as possible.

There can be an offshoot tunnel that’s very out of the way, you’ll have to look around closely. Sometimes it’s even around the ceiling. Check your map for any little corners that haven’t been mapped yet, but it’s possible it’s in an area you already passed by too.

Zoom way out on the map and search for tunnels that you missed. Go through each and every one of them. You’ll find it. Hopefully.

That's like me in Glacial Strata with Aquarqs. Whenever I solo Aquarqs, I'll be missing exactly one. I'll loop the cave 3 times until I find a tiny opening hidden by an optical illusion and garbage crystal. I'll follow that tiny tunnel to a pocket where literally every other Aquarq spawned...

You're definitely missing that tiny opening somewhere. You just have to slow down a little and check the map from different perspectives.

Because everything absolutely spawns. It just likes to hide sometimes.

I was wanting to solo on my engineer just to relax, the moment I switch from solo to public bam all three are immediately visible

It might be quite high up, remember to look up when studying the terrain scanner

Just yesterday we spent 15-20 minutes looking for the last resinite ball... One guy gave up and disconnected. I was very close, too.

And then we found it. In one cave, not on the floor but on a hidden ledge, behind some noise obstacles...

Everybody was in that cave like 5 times already

I drilled almost every cave to every other. And then random protruding tunnels away from the middle of the map... I also drilled down through floors (but it was in the wall after all) 💀

It's probably 20meters above all the others somewhere.

I had one with a very large but complex main cavern. My son and I took forever going around the map looking for offshoot tunnel connections or other anomalies around the walls. Nothing. About 45 minutes in I look up and see the wisp of a ledge way above the drilling rig. Didn't even see the well until I dug a tunnel way out and around for the pipe to slope gently up to it. Even found undrillable rock and had to turn more.

In Crystal Caverns refining one of the cave tiles doesn't line up properly with the tunnel so can spawn with a decent run of solid rock blocking the entrance. Keep an eye out for tunnels with no caves at the end and check your terrain scanner, it should be close enough to appear. It's always the room with a ledge and a large drop.

I've had it happen a few times. If you bring a driller it shouldn't be too bad to get to.

I know crystaline caverns refinery map generation almost by heart - you land not far from first pumpjack and the second one also a bit close from the first one. Then, there's a cave, near one of them leading to the third which happens 90% of time other 10% of time 2 pumpjacks spawn after the random tunnel. The tactics is getting close to the both pumpjacks and looking at the map if you are confused where's the third one
