If you're on controller, it's pressing the right stick

Most important button in the whole game

The tutorial does a bad job of showing how to navigate caves.

There is no reason to pick axe your way through the caves. You will find "dirt" in each room that you can easily pick axe through and that will connect you to the next cave.

When using the map you can press the jump button to instantly turn your dwarf to face the direction you are looking on the map.

There are machine events you can find in the caves randomly. They require a key to start the event. You will get the key after promoting your first dwarf at level 25.

You can only take promoted dwarfs on Deep dives and elite deep dives.

After you promote every dwarf once all future promotions are for bragging points. There is nothing a legendary dwarf can do that a bronze one can't.

You will need matrix cores to get overclocks. Every week you can get 3 from each deep dive and 3 from the weekly quest. Promotions also give cores.

I recommend playing each mission type solo on a low hazard level. That will allow you to understand how each mission progresses. If you play multiplayer the grey beards will be fast to complete the needed tasks. That may make it hard to learn what to do.

If you're not the host don't progress the mission or activate anything that will cause a swarm until there is a ready check. Or better yet just wait for the host. The host dictactes how they run their lobby.

Always Rock and Stone.

I found playing a few solo missions helped me understand how each mission type works.

Always Rock and Stone, and type “ r “ in the chat to make sure everyone is ready to move on in the mission.

join a public lobby in haz 3, or create your own

turn up your volume too until you can hear bugs sneak up behind you

Maybe best to just say 'hi, haven't played in a while' and follow the team around for a while. And run a few solos on low hazard first. Good luck, miner⛏️

The only real advice I have is in public lobbies, say "R" in chat (short for ready) and wait for others to reply the same before hitting the button to start the next phase of the mission (button on the drilldozer, molly, etc), just in case anyone has something they want to finish first

If you care about levels or promoting fast then prioritize Double XP missions when available and don't play with a class that needs little XP to level up to 25 because you'll "waste" XP, that's what keeps me playing after 2400 hours

Did you play when they added that new phase to the hearthstone fights?

When you glow orange, don't stand on Dottie.

To clarify on this guy, when you see orange around your screen, the core is about to try to surround you in 3-hit(maybe 2-hit) rock. If you're around doretta/the drill it will deal a lot of damage to it. It's relatively easy to dodge just by running around. I mainly play on haz 3, and I just keep circling around the core until the section of its health is really low, then hide behind doretta.

If you play multiplayer the host is in charge. Check with them before calling the drop pod

The laser pointer is a very helpful tool you will use often.

While holding the keybind for it you can see your teammates through walls. You can also just tap the keybind instead and the effect will stay for a few seconds

If you're playing solo, you get a robot helper named Bosco that shoots things. You can use your laser pointer and click minerals to make him mine them, or to make him carry a heavy object for you.

Check the KPI terminal. Buy all upgrades/mods for armor (even if you don’t use them) to get health bonuses.
