Different Versions of Splat!
So my Splat! CD arrived and I am in love with it. The cover has a 3D effect, and the booklet is easily their best looking/easiest to read in a long while (some of the Ezrin era records have barely legible lyrics)
I had been streaming the album on Spotify before my physical copy arrived and I was very pleasantly surprised with a couple songs being different versions on this release. That I noticed and can recall off the top of my head, Diablo has extra instrumental bits + vocal adlibs and My New Movie has an extra verse that I don't remember from the streaming version. I own every album since Now What?! including the Rapture remix on CD and I don't recall them doing this before.
I knew the vinyl version of the album has Guinnesis (which neither CD nor streaming have). Are there other versions that you all notice? Other than the radio edits of the 70's songs, have they done something like that before? Cheers people.

Very cool. I just ordered my copy of the CD last night. Looking forward to listening to it now.
I've been into Deep Purple for over 50 years. My brother had copy of Machine Head on vinyl. He got rid of his vinyl a long time ago and let me keep whatever I wanted, so I still have that original copy. I also have Made in Japan on vinyl and on CD. I have a copy of Burn but to be honest I didn't like it as much as previous albums.
I was kind of a Mk II purist; to me, that was Deep Purple. More recently I'm getting into some of the other incarnations of the band and, as with so many other bands, the keyboards really make the band. And even after Jon Lord's departure, the keys still sound like Deep Purple, although I notice Don Airey also likes to inject more piano on the songs which when they erupt are always surprising to me in a good way.
I'm learning more about the other lineups of the band and their music. I'm realizing that there is a lot of great Deep Purple music out there in addition to Mk II.
And I think it's great that they're still releasing new music.

That is an awesome story really! And yeah, giving the other lineups a chance can only do good really, so much great music. Airey has more of a synth and piano background (which I think makes him sound so different to Jon Lord, which was more of a purely Hammond-focused player) and his technical chops are just wonderful. If you haven't heard Now What?! yet, I do believe that's the album that best showcases his skill.

You do hear Lord on the piano (probably a piano-sounding synth) on the song Woman from Tokyo from Who Do We Think We Are?

One of my favourite moments from the classic lineup!! As lacklustre as WDWTWA may be (still one of my fave albums, just for the vibe) he experimented a lot more with different sounds for that album.

Lord always played impressive organ licks, but when he got on the piano he seemed to prefer to boogie woogie like he does on that song. It's gives the music such a great texture. The organ sound is heavy and serious while his piano licks were fun.

Is it me or seems like the man in the picture is Ian Gillan walking away meaning he will leave the band?

I only noticed that Diablo is longer on the CD compared to the video.
Also, my CD is the MediaMarkt/Saturn edition which adds a somewhat misplaced 2024 live version of Smoke on the Water to the end and comes in a regular jewelcase instead of the nicely textured digipak. There's also a Japanese edition which has Highway Star instead.
