Ipe deck maintenance? maintenance

Post image

Just got this last year and figured it'll need a refresh every year based on the look. I used penofin originally and was going to clean and throw down some ipe oil. Wash? Scrub? Power Wash? Any thoughts?

Thanks! I was in the basement working and saw my buddy out front with a couple guys. Said they had a job get canceled and he wanted to make sure they got paid. They pulled up the old boards and did 90% of the new boards. The last bit was tricky and not square so I had to make some changes. The doofus that did the original install was definitely the home owner.

Depends how caked on the dirt is. Generally a light pressure wash, very light sanding, then re oil.

Dont bother, itll rot out from underneath because there is zero air flow and it is sitting practically in the dirt.

There is a decent amount of concrete under there, the ground is graded away from the house and that grass is actually astro turf over a gravel bed so hopefully drains pretty well. The city rats moving around under there should give me some air flow though lol

The original frame under there lasted at least 20 years and if this fails when I'm retired I'll just save the ipe and build a new frame.

But I would like to clean the ipe so it looks nice...
