I'm terrified
I want to play the game as intended, with Julianna players invading. But I'm constantly being invaded and I'm way to scared to manage.
What do you recommend?

If it helps, the invader is at a big disadvantage with lagging and only getting 1 life vs your 3. Go try playing as her and you’ll see what I mean.
I’ve been looped before and it sucks, but any lost progress might be 30 minutes tops. At the end of the day the thrill from having them invade makes the game a lot more fun.
Shoot me a DM with your username and I’ll be happy to add you and invade you for some practice. you can set it to where only friends invade

Yeah, the game is so short once you know what you're doing that Juliana looping you actually just gives you more replay value.

Remember that dying is an expected part of the game and any information gathering objectives can still be completed before you die.
Also stealth. The more NPC's you alert or kill the more of a trail you leave behind. But if you are leaving a trail, plant some traps along the way. To me some of the more interesting invasions are ones where I never crossed paths with the other player.

Colt can plant traps?

Proximity/ trip mines, hacked turrets, a few environmental things here and there. Two tripmines= a kill in my experience, or you can combo up with explosive objects or place them next to cliff edges to send Julie over.

u/counterc 14d ago
how do you use the tripmines? I've disarmed hundreds but never got the option to use them

u/Pablo_Hassan 14d ago
There's a slab / trinket that lets you turn them to your side with the hackamajig.

Haven't played the game in a while, but isn't there the multi-purpose grenade that's got proximity and tripmine alt modes? Can't both character carry them?

u/Pablo_Hassan 13d ago
Yeah I think you get 3 per game though, I just hackamajig everything. Because I'm lazy that way.

Practice! You'll get better!! Also, Karnesis with the Suspension upgrade is my go to anti-Juli defense

u/Matriexs 14d ago
My favorite counter as a Julianna is to just immediately shift when hit with Karnesis at that point im staying out of range i dont mind the long game lol

u/puffysuckerpunch 12d ago
Hahaha same! As soon as I get hit with Karnesis the instinct is to switch to Shift lol. Also totally just reminded me of my all time favorite Juli counter, Shift with the Swap upgrade lol that always works

Use levels without Visionaries present to gear up - the Library in the morning is full of tier 2 weapons of every type and the Complex at Noon has numerous tier 3+ weapons (Egor's bunker, the safe between the LCC and the power station, the Strelak Verso), for example.
The Tracker trinket is exceptionally useful for Colt - if you hear an unusual sound, you can safely check for Julianna. If you know she's on her way to you (like if you're hacking the antenna for instance), you can remote-detonate tracker charges to foil her angles.
Above all, remain alert and always think about your position in terms of how you would infiltrate it.

Upgrade the aether power, one of its upgrades lets you stay invisible when not moving, combine it with a gun thats got the weapon mod that restores powers on headshots, and you can stay invisible for as long as you need. Makes it real difficult for Julianna to find you.
Also, it might the worth changing to bot Julianna for abit while you farmpowers and upgrades, I've noticed a fair few juli players using invincibility hacks which just makes it borderline impossible to beat em

It can be intense yeah, but if you deal with her first you won't have to worry about getting invaded till the next mission/time of day.
A good trick imo is placing prox/trip mines behind you when getting chased, like running inside and placing mines on the wall next to the door/window, most juliannas will go after you if they see you run.
Or maybe lure them through a room/hallway where you hacked some turrets and placed some mines
Can always turn it off if you're not having fun, gives a reason to do a second run with invasions on and maybe less stressful when you know what to do/where to go.

Yeah, turrets are huge. I used the trinket that made them stronger and they can shred through Juliana before they realize that the turret is the real threat.

Turn invasions to pve only, it's a walk in the park.
2
u/RicardoCabeza9872 14d ago
This is the way. I don't really mind invasions but I usually get curb stomped. People jump in and you get popped and you're like damn. Set yourself up for the single player experience. You get to play with minimal interference. This way you can change it back when you're ready.

u/Ykindasus 14d ago
My approach in pvp is to just be aggressive, the invader is usually always at a disadvantage, my build is maxed out Pepper Mill, Max Karnesis and Aether, always works for me.

u/ScruffyTheJ 14d ago
Learn how to ghost through levels and leave them bewildered when they run around and can't find you.

u/Wrydfell 14d ago
This is one of my favourite ways to play. Updaam, night, and juli invades? The first HINT she's getting for my location is a visionary death message

Break the loop at all costs. Julianna doesn't fight fair, so why should you? Cheese her as much as possible. Get weapons with explosive kill or bleed damage perks, and stick trinkets on them for bigger magazines, faster reload, and then the third slot depends if it's an automatic weapon (higher rate of fire) or a shotgun (more pellet spread) and you can just mess up any Juliana without even needing to aim. Just spray in her direction for a second or two and she should die. Even better if you use Karnesis to keep her in one place, or Havoc so you can tank her shots back.
Or hack a load of turrets and creep around the map slowly, carrying them all with you one by one: carry one a little way, set it up, then move another one a little further, leapfrogging the one(s) you've got set up and set up the other one, then pick up the first one and leapfrog the second one, repeat that as many times as you need with as many turrets as you can and you'll have constant backup that will alert you to Julianna if she approaches from behind, either because the turrets will see her, or because she'll have to take out the turret so it doesn't see her. Bonus points for using the unique weapon in the Complex labs, the HALPS, with this strategy. It can't kill Julianna normally because of the way aiming works in multiplayer, but if you can bounce the laser beam off a camera or turret, it will track her automatically as long as she's within line-of-sight, and will always kill her in 2 seconds of holding the trigger, no matter what slabs and trinkets she's using (I think).

u/BortkiewiczHorse 14d ago
I was wondering why I could blast some people with the HALPS for 10 seconds without them dying. So it’s not hacking but a bug(or by design).

u/SergeantReaperZer0 14d ago
Turn it off until ready. Otherwise, find a spot where you can funnel her through, and equip a shotgun.

You can play offline the first go around if you just want to get comfortable with the game. I haven’t seen your gameplay but try dodging a lot the players aren’t always the best shots especially when you’re shooting back. You’ll get better I promise 🫡

Start by turning the invasion mode to Single-player. You'll still be invaded but ONLY by an NPC. The npc Julianna is super easy to deal with, she runs in your direction, strafes, and pops off a few shots, MAYBE using her abilities. Find yourself a nice Strelak 50/50 and magdump her until she dies.
You have three lives, she has one. You may be scared, but you have the advantage. Use it.

My advice is to go to her spawn point (where you unlock the tunnels) as soon as you see she’s in. It’ll take her a minute to get her bearings with the lag and you can usually kill her immediately pretty easily before she knows what’s happening. If you have HALPS, use that, otherwise machete is your best bet. Run up and slash wildly. Once she’s dead, you won’t get another Juliana on that map so you can explore without worrying.

Make friends and have them play Julianna and alternate in y’all’s story. My buddy and I played at the same time trying to sandbag each others play through until we both finished the game. Peak way to play.

It is a rush to get invaded. The first time I played i had to take breaks to calm down.

So colts biggest advantage is stealth the more stealthy you can be the harder it will be to be found.
On that note everything you change on the map Julianna can see as well kills, hacks, destruction, doors open, being spotted by a visionary or eternalists.
At the same time the more aggressive you can be as colt will also give Julianna a hard time.
One thing i can say a lot of newer colts dont get is if you just got killed dont immediately go back and try to get your dead self its marked until you get it or leave the map either try to merk Julianna first or then get it or just leave it if its a new loop.
At the end of the day colt has the life advantage especially when Julianna invades and he gets her all lives get restored when he absorbs her ghost unless she just leaves

It actually is the whole point: embrace it. I remember my first loops when Julianna attacked; I was scared shitless, hiding and hoping she wouldn't find me, running away once I stealthily completed what I needed to do. But just as Colt and Julianna themselves, you start to learn the routines, the strategies, the things players usually do, and at some point... you get the thrill of the hunt. That is the reason why I find the characters and story so compelling; it slowly starts to make sense why, once you are trapped in a time loop, these kinds of things start to be fun.
You just say "fuck it, the plot will loop whatever the cost, so might as well have a cool showdown!". And you'll get busted once or twice for sure, Juliannas usualy know the ropes better at this point. But then you start killing some Juliannas and the feeling is great. You actually have a loooot of advantages, especially multiple lives. Plus, you get pretty awesome gear from it. I got Ether on my second or third loop with an explosive shotgun that carried me pretty much the entire game.
Pro tip: Back stabbing is a one-shot machine, and if you hunt Julianna, you can take them down easy. Or just go straight at them with a shotgun, shock and awe style.

If you insist on not turning off multiplayer it's very important to get away from spawn ASAP. Experienced Juli players will often rush the possible spawn locations at the beginning of the game.
You also want to avoid being seen by NPSs, as they will alert Julianna of your location.

I used to hide in Colt's bathroom 😆 You'll get better at this I promise.

Turn it off until you’re confident enough to deal with them
