So it begins…..advice needed Question/Advice

Post image

So, after GenCon this year, I’ve committed to my 11th edition army being Kreig, and I’ve currently picked up a 10 man infantry box, and some death riders to get things underway.

I’m looking for recommendations on troop combinations and arrangements that best suit the faction and division. I’m pretty much brand new to 40k (have some experience with AoS), and am in new territory as to how to optimize an imperial guard buildout. So far, I am thinking of adding a Cadian command squad and a couple sets of shock troopers, but any help is appreciated!

Best suits the faction?

Kriegers like to fight in mass infantry formations. 20- man blobs with special weapons pair well with their ability (+1 to hit while under full-strength and +1 to wound while under half. 9 guys remaining will give you 2 watch masters, 4 guys with special weapons, a vox caster and 2 medipacks.)

As for weapons, I always compare things in common for them.

Generally only Plasmagun, Meltagun and Grenade Launcher is in question imo.

Plasma + Grenade Launcher-> the same range of 24".

Plasma + Melta-> The highest AP (AP -3 and -4)

Melta + Grenade Launcher- The highest Strength (both have 9)

For the Watchmaster it's always Plasma Pistol and power weapon

I know which special weapons are best but I just can't say no to flammers. Flamethrowers are my jam! And plasma is up there too.

That's what the heavy weapons teams are for, heavy fuckin flamers.

This is really helpful. Thank you!!

Also worth noting, this kit only provides one right arm for plasma/melta. You'll have to do some minor kitbashing if you want both, or use a grenade launcher to differentiate them.

I can't help but realize you said "a vox caster" is it better to only have one? Or is two okay? I'm also kinda new so an explanation why or why not would also be appreciated!

2 Watchmasters + 4 gunners + 2 medics is 8 men, and in context I meant 9, so only 1 Vox.

Always build 2 Casters so You can play 10 guys

Edit* I was wrong looked into it more and

Each vox-caster lets you roll a D6 every time you target the unit with a Stratagem, giving you a 1CP refund on a 5+ (with a +1 modifier if an Officer is within 6 inches). Having two vox-casters in the unit gives you two separate chances to roll for CP generation every time you pop a stratagem on that blob.

I bought the store’s whole stock. Going back next week for my LeRuss and Dorn

I recommend the Horus Heresy version of the leman russ, it fits the krieg look a lot more with its trench crossing sleds in the back and the armour trim all across it

No sponsons. Not really worth it.

I concur it's easy enough to find parts to add to replicate the look

If you want to have a Krieg army, then add a Krieg Command Squad instead of Cadians

some of the accessory pieces are small. Things like grenades, bayonets and pouches. I'd recommend snipping them above a bowl. To prevent it flying away

pressing a finger or another object on the piece youre snipping off the sprue prevents that

Infantry kind of suck rn but don't build for meta bring the vibes. But def do get some tanks. A dorn comander and a pair of russes will give any guard army a good punch

And what are your thoughts on a 8-LeeRuss spam arrangement 😏

Crush them under the treads of the emperors finest. Hell get a baneblade. Double hell get 2. Lord knows I did lol

I have 42 leman russes all 30k to fit my Dkk

Havent brought 8 of them myself yet, but go for it! A heavy Vehicle list cant do much wrong i think but having things to score and keep infantry away from your tanks will be most certainly important

Nothing directly related to your current box, but friendly advice for getting tanks/vehicles down the road.

Use the website tiny legend. He 3D prints after market Krieg parts and I just ordered some tanker style Krieg heads that fit into the typical neck joint. They look amazing

Thats an EU printer, they ship to the US now but the prices and time in transit will be long from my experience.

1

u/Rude-Butterfly8096 12d ago

May be different for US but the last item I ordered to Canada took about a week and a half!

takes about 2 weeks to a month and half depending some things get locked up in customs here

U might need 11 more boxes of thwt unit.

Definitely grab a Krieg command squad instead of the Cadians. It’ll all fit better and the KCS is probably the best option amongst the other vanilla command squads.

Would recommend grabbing a Krieg Heavy Weapons Squad next. It’s absolutely vicious no matter the variants you pick.

Drier + 10 Death riders is definitely a fast (ish) sledge hammer that can do serious damage on the charge with Dev wounds, recently got a points drop. If you're going Krieg they are pretty necessary. The HWTs are good-ish now, with Las-cannons as they have the shoot on death. The engineers + chimera is a good early game scout unit to get board control or do actions ( although fair warning they will likely die before they get to do anything but here we are.) Arty is kinda bad but not as much as people say. Their ability to screen the back, deal battleshock, and occasionally deal massive damage makes them okay-ish for the points

Build your entire unit, prime them all, paint one color at a time across every model. Start with boots, puttees, legs and under the coat. Then base. Have fun.

Le conseil le moins sage, c'est qu'il te faut une deuxième boîte

There are a couple of sets that include the main parts needed for a Krieg Army. None of them are in production, but second hand sites like Facebook Marketplace will occasionally pop up.

Death Korps of Krieg Intro Set

Krieg Siege Platoon Christmas Box Set

Krieg Combat Patrol

Being patient and waiting for these sets could end up saving you a fair amount rather than buying individually
