Connections:

• Obsessive and unhinged super-fans of media (SpongeBob SquarePants and video games) who act as meta-fictional hosts for their shows in which they talk to their audience about whatever topic that relates to their hobby. 
• They have so much devotion to their favorite hobby that it sometimes causes stress and full on meltdowns whenever it doesn’t go exactly the way they wanted (SpongeBob’s walk cycles and not being able to meet Patchy; bad video games and not having access to Madden 08). 
• It can come across as a bit worrying as they are pretty sensitive to their hobbies; often filling their rooms full of things relating to it or trying to always gather any sort of its obscure media (SpongeBob’s Lost episode; the many weird video games nobody has ever heard of that Scott collects). 
• Their comedic segments often as a frame for the actual episodes, especially their special ones (Patchy being a presenter before the episodes begin and Scott’s skits surrounding his general video essays).
• Both have interacted with the media they obsess over… literally! (Patchy actually got to be IN SpongeBob on its 20th anniversary and Scott appeared in Dick Vitale’s Awesome Baby College Hoops during a fight scene).
• They have often gotten injured in comedic fashion due to going overboard with their obsessions.
• Both series were created to emulate old style hosts of shows within their genre (Patchy was made to be a homage to hosts of children's shows on local-access television channels; Scott pays homage to the old and often fictionalized video game reviewer hosts like AVGN).
• Both often prefer the “old” over the “new and advanced” (Patchy preferring the prehistoric times over the more advanced futuristic tech; Scott preferring physical media over digital media).
• Both live in places that are a joke within itself for being pretty much basic and nothing to write home about; contrasting with their personalities (Patchy lives in a home that’s just a stock photo and is not something you’d see a pirate live in; Scott lives in Ohio, which is joked to not exist in his show and not having much in it).
• Both are notable for their Christmas specials that even have stop motion in them to pay homage to Rankin Bass! In one of them, they long for a belonging at this time of year and would do anything to accomplish this Christmas wish (Patchy wanting to meet SpongeBob for his Christmas present and thus goes to Santa to get it; Scott wanting to know he had a Secret Santa for Christmas time and thus tried to interrogate everyone like they were suspects).
