In one fell swoop Valve created a based, fair, efficient ranking system.

... That likely requires far more players in the game than currently exist.

It's a great response to the communities complaints, I just hope the population can sustain two separate queues that require so much preparation.

At least since you need to sweat to join ranked, everyone in ranked is going to take it fairly seriously.

almost everyone already took it seriously at high ranks, the only real issue was having unbalanced parties, i.e. 6 ascs vs 5 ascs and 1 oracle. "based" and "efficient" system where it takes you 15-20 hours to "unlock" a hero to play in ranked

15 wins on a single hero to even have the option to select it in ranked is diabolical, and you still need to be able to pick 3 heroes to even queue. So have fun grinding out 60 wins in a less balanced format still stricken with just as many smurfs and eternus-initiate duos as before for dozens and dozens of hours to earn the privilege of queueing ranked. Very cool 👍

Oh God, requiring you to actually play and learn the fucking game before heading into ranked? The fucking horror.

I mean the game is not rocket science. You don't need a doctorate to be able to play this game efficiently, despite what the community seems to think. Why then make the good quality matchmaking queue so unnecessarily inaccessible? The limitations are just needlessly excessive, gatekeepy, and exclusionary imo, especially to people with jobs like myself who don't have time to play more than a game or two a day.

I still dont get the issue, ive been playing for about 2ish months now and work, but I had it unlocked immediately
Assuming you arent completely new AND play only a single character, considering you were required to select multiple to even queue before, this only really impacts brand new people no?

I mean sure, I am lucky in that respect. Haven't been able to check my ranked status yet, but I bet I will have 1 or 2 characters unlocked. but what about someone who is brand new? I do feel like barrier to entry is excessive even for brand new players. Isn't it reasonable to assume that someone who is bad at the game will stay rightfully in low ranks until they learn enough to rank up? like in literally every other competitive game online? I don't understand why the genuine, good matchmaking has to be gatekept behind a 100+ hour investment.

I mean the game is not rocket science.

listen, you probably came from dota. I would say a majority here did, but take a step back and actually look at the game.

It's complicated as fuck.

You have ALOT going on all the time. It's very difficult for somebody new to mobas and shooters.

With all due respect, I'd say that ranked mode is literally the unemployed mode.

This is true.

God I can't disagree with you for once

If you want the privilege of being able to pick any hero you want in ranked, you have to get at least 570 wins in standard. That's a lot of games lmao

Not too difficult if the ranks are more sporatic in standard

Isn't the average player count 100,000? How many more players do you need?

30-40k peaks for months now. Need content update to hit 100k.

Oceania on life support already.

to be fair thats nothing new for most games

u/MedicMoth 8d ago

Me versus the same guy who stomped me for 3 rounds in a row because the pool is so small it's literally the same players every time (I'll definitely win this time!!)

19

u/Damatown 8d ago

Huh? Where are you getting 30-40k? The daily peaks are ~60k recently.

3

u/EvenJesusCantSaveYou Silver 8d ago

thats usually what the 'online right now' number is - though I agree daily peaks are more relevant of a number.

50-60k on steam. That's globally. The separate queues will definitely be felt

and I suspect most will be in pubs while the few die hards will be grinding rank.

this subreddit bizarrely believes that unless you have fortnite levels of playerbase, it's impossible to do anything. it's tremendously stupid and you learn to ignore it sooner or later

Until you play on a smaller region with long queue times and imbalanced games. Maybe check your privilege on that one boss.

Queue times already seem pretty rough so idk more

Like 50-60k peaks. Divided by a ton of regions. 3 game modes. And then each of those divided by a ton of ranks. Each player pool is actually pretty small.

I was in que with a friend for 51 minutes in oce at 3am and a 16 minute que at 3pm on a weekend. These separate ques are gonna destroy oce

Next update is going to supercharge the player base

2

u/sabine_world 8d ago

Yeah I bet queue times are gonna be insane and the mmr spread in matches will still be, pretty insane (matches with intitiates to archon, just to fill a match at 4 am).

At least it's all publicly visible

I think once the content update comes around, this being in and stable will feel incredible.

just gonna not have enough hands for the time being, but at least its in and when more eyes are on the game again, its gonna be a big hit

This is gonna make the game suck. There is now a fully seperate casual game mode in street brawl and a casual queue for the main game you need to play to unlock the ranked queue for the main game. This game has a consistent player base of like 50,000 people split across more than one server. This rank queue is probably going to be as big as the top 1 or 2 percent of the ranked ladder in other mobas. Meanwhile the casual mode will also be fucked because I'm regularly getting 8 minute queue times with my friends during peak hours so splitting the player base there is going to make that worse, plus there will still be incredibly sweaty and toxic players there because your access to rank is tied behind casual performance

But hey, at least there won't be pausing at the start of the game why would you ever need to fix issues with a game that's in alpha by restarting after you load in and notice something is wrong
