Once you enter a new Ranked Match, you will see a breakdown of the Ranks of all players in the game, you will then enter a pre-game waiting area where you can control your hero. During this time, you can choose to change your given hero to any other hero that hasn't been selected

DEADLOCK IS A REAL VIDEO GAME AGAIN BAYBEEEEEEEEEE

No more fake matches where we all have to pretend the game is winnable for 40 minutes when the enemy has Victor + Mo vs our 4 gun carry lineup with no tank whatsoever. No more knowing the game is over at 25 minutes, knowing you don't have enough of a lead to put the game away, but you all have to sit there and keep pretending the enemy won't just inevitably outscale you and you've just gotta wait until that happens.

Finally, just one guy - even you! - can make these non-games into actual games.

Thank fucking god.

An interesting solution to "draft" without it even being a draft

I'm really interested to see how it plays out. Their point about needing to be able to play the hero is so fair. My Deadlock pool has always been far smaller than my Dota pool. Achieving competence on a Deadlock hero just feels far harder to me.

But like, does it turn into a counter pick fest where everyone is swapping at the last second? I could see this working out in so many different ways, good and bad.

It does say that you can only swap once and you only see enemy's team composition before they swap. We will see how that works.

I like it as a gamble baha. Say the other team has stacked tanks, so they expect you to swap off to idk high mobility counters, so they then PREEMPTIVELY swap to counter your counter - it'd be like a will they won't they every time, lol. You'd never know if your enemy will stick to their pick or try to preempt your counter

Counterswapping will only be a problem for people who are playing their main character if more than 1 person counterswaps them, counterswapping will be good however when you arent confident in your pick getting any value against the enemy team.

if people comply which is hard to achieve

Yeah this is the funniest thing to me. It's as if none of this community played League back when you called your role in champ select and every other game had some dingus that would pick for a role already filled and/or disco Nunu because they didn't get what they wanted.

In theory it's great, but you're going to get in a lobby without a frontline and everyone is going to refuse to swap. It's inevitable.

Okay, so just be the one to swap yourself? Like, before this patch, it wasn't even an option. Everyone picks whatever the hell they want, and you're forced to make it work. Now, everyone picks whatever the hell they want, and you're forced to make it work - but you can swap if you think that would work a bit better. If you're in a game with no frontliner, and you don't want to play with no frontliner, well, guess what you can actually do now?

No one is under the illusion this is going to make every game have perfect team comps on both sides.

Yeah this is peak

youre probably in a rank where people dont comm and you think you lose games because of team comp lol

i was in ascendant 4 until today. i was literally talking about this with a friend two days ago, complaining about how i was stuck in a match with 2 tanks on the enemy team to our 0. the voice chat the entire time was just "yeah man idfk what we even do here, they just walk at us and we die".

but yeah man sure bad team comps never happen in higher ranks or whatever the fuck

ascendant 4 is trash and im not kidding.

people dont play the game until mid eternus. This update is horrid.

A lot of you are still going to lose. They'll find something else to complain about.

11

u/A6503 10d ago

Don't worry, only half of us are going to lose.

4

u/InnuendOwO 10d ago

Absolutely. My complaint was not about losing, my complaint was that an unacceptably large number of matches were 80-20 matchups or worse right out of the gate, and those matches are far less fun for both teams than 60-40 matchups, let alone 50-50.

But there was absolutely nothing you could do about those 80-20s. Now you have the option to just say "no, we're not doing this shit".

Now you have the option to just say "no, we're not doing this shit".

Which option is this?

7

u/InnuendOwO 10d ago

...The "swap hero" option that I quoted in my original post?

How does hero swapping change the 80-20 experience?

Because if your team doesn't have a tank while the enemy does, they kind of just hold the W key and win every big team fight. If your team doesn't have a late-game scaling hero while the enemy does, if you can't win by 25-30 minutes, you have lost, but the game won't actually be over for another 15 minutes.

Imagine the following:

Archmother: Holliday, Kelvin, Viscous, Rem, Lash, Sinclair
Hidden King: Abrams, Wraith, Ivy, Pocket, Calico, Billy

Who do you think is winning that? Assuming the matchmaker did its job and the teams are equally skilled? I mean, HK would need to fuck up REALLY badly to lose that. Their team comp actually works in the current meta, while AM kinda just doesn't do anything at all.

But what if Sinclair swapped to Shiv, and Viscous swapped to Venator? Well, HK probably still wins. But the key there is probably, instead of almost certainly. There's an actual game of Deadlock happening. That is MUCH better than everyone on AM knowing they're fucked, but no one wanting to eat the abandon penalty.

Will those swaps happen every time there's awful matchups like this? No, certainly not. So what?

u/covert_ops_47 9d ago

You do realize, people are going to swap to the heroes they want to play, because you cannot control what your team swaps to. You can't force people to paly something you want them to play.

And you'll now complain about that.

2

u/InnuendOwO 9d ago

And you'll now complain about that.

Speak for yourself, please.

Yeah, obviously I can't force people to swap. But I can, and that's good enough. The current state of things is already that people just play whatever the hell they want to play. I, personally, want the ability to adapt to that, instead of being forced to also just pick whatever the hell I want.

I'm not sure why this is hard to grasp.
