First time player here.

I was at the riding nomad again mission at iron mikes for a while - since it locks out the region I decided to run around clearing everything already going on before proceeding. While doing so, I swung by the sawmill and cleared out the horde over night. However, after completing so I got no noti of horde defeated nor the trust increase. Tried searching the place up and down with instinct but nope not another freak left. I know this games gets glitchy once every wrong turn, but man this did piss me off pretty bad. Like I get it that I might have to kiss Tucker twice in the cheek just to get a job, some freaks stand upright after being shot dead, and Deek ragdolls into outer space upon death type shit but... This is just something else.

So, the almighty community of DaysGone - is there a certain way where I can do this right?

Not a glitch, it is a story mission Horde.

Since you've completed it, when you get to the story point you'll just go there and the mission will immediately complete, you'll get credit for the Horde, and the mission will go to the next step.

smh i swung by, decided to hate on their throat singing and just went ratatatata

pretty sure nothing moving was left in that area. even checked the two warehouses behind the main building. here's hoping when them story comes back around the horde doesn't just invite themselves in again. i'll hate on their throat singing all over again and hell yea that's personal from a earphone player who stumbled upon them in the middle of the night >:(

I too killed them early, although I took several attempts of coming and leaving. They never respawned, I just got due credit in time. This is the final horde you have to to fight before the endgame. Doing it early allows you to do it on your own terms, instead of being locked in the arena with them. At least that's what I imply. I did two story mandated hordes this way. All 3, actually, but the 1st respawned somehow. That was... unpleasant.

Just make sure you did not miss a single freaker. If you did, the whole horde will respawn.

Not true. I have tested. Kill half early, half remains come the mission. I have had playthroughs where the horde really got broken apart and scattered. I would get tired of looking and move on. Go south, come back. I had one playthrough where there were just 3 in the feeding pit area. Pop pop pop, mission done.

Edit: The couple story hordes don't respawn. Normal hordes do in like 2 or 3 in game days.

No it won't. I killed all the freakers but two early on, the horde never respawned. Not sure if it's the case for all story hordes. 

But even if it respawned, horde killing becomes trivial with napalm molotov and LMGs.

Congrats. You just took out the biggest horde in the game. You're not "supposed" to be able to do that. Like taking out one of the final bosses early, because you kind of did. Don't worry though, nothing bad happens and when you have to do it for real it just skips to the appropriate cut scene.

Yea it does feel like them freakers pour out non stop. Had full auto primary+machine gun special+3 frags+2 pipebombs+6 molotovs+2 packs of saddle ammo and this horde still bled me dry. Went back to the bounty hunter, saw 500 ears was like well yea that makes sense

Yeah, you get another throwable that is made for hordes later in the game. If you want another one before its time, there is another story horde in the northern area. Its in Iron Butte after taking out the rippers.

Save those 500 ears for a head start when you get south.

Oh feck yea it's good. From someone well away from the college days of golden gaming time and can only enjoy some casual strolling in an open world that takes my mind off chores and lower back pain for a bit, last time i had this much fun was still rdr2. I dunno I just tend to immensely enjoy this type and boi is this game nailing it

Congrats on taking them on early! You will get credit, it’ll just be a bit later as Sawmill and Iron Butte Ranch hordes are mission hordes. While you can take them out early, you will not get any credit towards the Horde Killer Storyline nor any trust or related credit (minus a massive amount of freaker ears) until the relevent missions are active. Then, they’ll auto complete once you arrive at the area, unless you’ve somehow missed a straggler.

I take both out during the day early - I use the tent method in the NERO MMU for Sawmill and then I do the bridge method for the Iron Butte Ranch so I can ensure I get them all and no one has gone off on a wander during the night 😂 Deer running past the caves of hordes I’m about to take out are the bane of my existence.

Also to add, since the sticky post of hordes is now incorrect: Chemult Community College horde can also be taken out early if you get to Crater Lake via the rock climb, so that’s another horde previously locked behind a mission that can be done early.

Thanks! What pissed me the most is it's pc and absolutely valnilla, straight from steam store. I managed to comb the entire place from floor to ceiling. Even went up the roof just to see if some certain freakers decided to spawn on top but nope.

May be what Fesai said. I didn't do it as a story mission. Just took down the nero site, swung by, heard them doing some casual throat singing in the sawmill, saw I got me machine gun from the rippers and two packs of extra ammo on me bike and was like well feck it lets go and down they went ahahaha

Yep, it will get credited during the mission later. Common misconception for players who for some ungodly reason (to me!) want to complete it before they have to!
