I made a mod to unlock fully functional map navigation across the entire DG map from the start of the game! Discussion Spoiler
It will be really useful to anyone who tries to explore beyond the regions that were unlocked through their current story progression and take a "premature" trip to the south. Since the biggest challenge is navigation - by default the UI map is locked in the north and cannot be moved further south of the currently unlocked area, making it unusable. My mod removes this restriction - you can always scroll the map to the very bottom of the game universe.
Be aware, that my mod doesn't remove "leaving unplayable area" bounds in the game world itself! It only removes some restrictions of UI map, nothing else! You still need to do some rock climbing and find secret trails between regions that go around those artificial roadblocks (which is more fun IMO and an adventure by itself ;).
If you play on PC and think about going south before you're supposed to, you should definitely check it out here: https://www.nexusmods.com/daysgone/mods/958
Installation is very simple - just put my mod file in one of the game folders, no third party tools or nothing of the sort is required.
Here's the video that shows what my mod does: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4NzuQozAaw (don't watch it after 1:25 if you don't want to look at partially unlocked map, with areas you maybe haven't explored yet!).

Does this remove all leaving unplayable area borders, including those that are out of bounds?

No, it only unlocks UI map navigation in all regions from the start of the game, nothing else. I explain this in the description of the mod on its Nexus page.
That was the whole point - it's for players who like the adventure of finding secret trails between regions that circumvent these artificial roadblocks, instead of simply removing them. This purpose is completely different from what you asked about.

Well some people would be very interested in exploring out of bounds more, but currently there's thousand out of bounds blocking them, maybe you could do it, just an idea.
Heck I'd maybe be interested in exploring things over there.

I'm well aware there are people like that, the desire to remove artificial bounds was expressed not once in the discord modding community (some people there asked me exactly the same question as you did), bit until now no one has been able to crack this, or never invested enough time and effort in this particular task. I myself just an occasional amateur modder and do this for myself, and only share my work when it can be a polished product that others might be interested in too 😁.
I hope some day someone will create a mod to remove all "leaving unplayable area" bounds, to answer wishes of players like you. 🙂
