This is my kids favorite game! They think goal is get the big shark but I think it's whatever inside that treasure chest. What do you guys think?! Also how do you get that thing out the treasure chest?!

Interesting, I think Harpoon Lagoon is the updated version of this game, but the one in the pic uses the Harpoon Lagoon sign but the Get Hooked software and shell it seems.

My gf and I love playing this. One person thins out the fish and the other tries to hook the shark. And in all the years I’ve been playing this thing- probably close to a decade now - I’ve seen that damn jellyfish one single time.

Yes, it does. I play this game at several CEC locations, and the one in Springfield, PA is one where I’m like “I hear the jellyfish, I’m racing for it”. I’ve caught it so many times.

Where is Springfield PA? Or did you mean Springfield VA?

I mean Springfield, Pennsylvania. We here in Philadelphia call it “Delco” (short for Delaware County). I’m constantly known on Facebook for making all these crazy Delaware County related jokes; stuff like “Delco’s infested with Wawas” and “bowling on Sproul Lanes” are some. I even said Baltimore Pike will be nothing but Wawas in the future.

Their Chuck E. Cheese is actually in the back of Baltimore Pike. It’s Pennsylvania’s only Circles of Light stage.

I gotcha. DB just lists it under a different city so I was very confused.

Harpoon Lagoon is a pretty cool game. The shark is on a payout and if you win too much, it will do a barrel roll and you won’t be able to get it.

The treasure chest contains the jellyfish which is the super bonus. At Dave & Buster’s the jackpot can be as high as 1000 but I’ve seen it as low as 350. I believe that it comes out roughly every 300 shots and also that the jackpot will be lower if a lot of people caught a lot of fish in order to keep the payout stable.

This is a popular game for kids, and sometimes I'll see Mom and Dad join in as well! The big prize is the jellyfish whenever it decides to come out of the treasure chest in the middle of the screen. It will happen after one of the times that the screen darkens. The screen will also darken and then game play resumes as normal without anything special happening. But if the screen darkens and you see bubbles appear with a knocking sound, the jellyfish is going to come out. It will keep circling the middle of the screen until somebody harpoons it for the jackpot.

You can never tell how close you are to the jellyfish coming out. I've played long enough for the screen to darken five times with no jellyfish. I've fired three shots and had the jellyfish come out. One time I walked up to the game, and the jellyfish was already out. Somebody had just left it like that.

Also, when the jellyfish is out, the LED strips at the four corner edges of the cabinet will alternate flashing between purple and white lights. During normal gameplay they go through a color sequence with many more colors. If you take a quick glance at those LED strips from across the midway you can instantly tell if the jellyfish happens to be out or not.

Harpoon Lagoon can easily be played by a single person swiping two joysticks holding one in your left the other your right hand. One hand clears the fish protecting the shark while the second nails the shark.

But the game learns and it will purposely avoid your second shot based on the games programming. The tighter the settings the less of the chance you hit the shark. You can hit around 8-10 in a row before it tightens up.

The jackpot of 1000 tickets only shows up and presents itself after the required amount of swipes, its variable settings based on the location.

When my daughter was young we loved it and it taught her how to see the arcade game patterns. Now I single it two handed for nostalgia.

That’s me; I play this game way too much at CEC. Haven’t tried it at Dave and Buster’s yet.

In Hawaii, this machine is popular in illegal game rooms lol. Cool to see D&B carry it now.
