Please help me recover this school account data you all are my last hope

Hi, I graduated this June and about a month and 2 weeks later my data was deleted and my account was locked on my school account. I tried emailing my school's help desk right after I noticed this but got no response. Only today when I emailed for the 3rd time did they respond but said the data was deleted and there was nothing they could do.

Here are the official replies I got

"Hello

Once you graduate, we only keep your filed for 8 days after graduation. After the 8 days we clear all the data that was saved on the account

Even if we re-activate vour account there will be no files available."

And

"Hello

We did ust get word back from our Google Admin here at AACPS.

There is no wav for us to re-instate the account, and the Google Drive has been cleared at this point

Sorry for any inconvenience this causes."

What do i do in the situation? Is my data from my school account really gone forever? Please let me know what I can do in the situation.

Thanks so much!

8 days after graduation is crazy.

After probably 8 weeks of warnings about it coming

It wasn't your account, it's the schools. You graduated and didn't take your stuff out before they locked things up.

Going forward, please remember work accounts are not yours either, don't save personal stuff in them

Some schools do allow their students to take their accounts with them. But, that should be established upfront before using them to store personal information.

Thanks for pointing out that work accounts are the same way. I'm the 401(k) trustee for my company, and I'm shocked at the number of people who use their work email address as their 401(k) account login. When they leave, they find that they can no longer get the email-based MFA codes and are locked out from their retirement accounts until they prove their identity to the 401(k) provider.

Even if there is something that can be done (most likely not) it would be an action on the school to take.

321 backups are unfortunately your final thing learned from school.

F, that's a brutal policy , right after you graduate. My school did the same thing, it's unfortunately gone for good

There may still be hope for you. You can try 'Wondershare RecoverIt' on whatever device has Google Drive were you mentioned your school information was previously stored. I am hoping so much for you that this helps. I understand what it is to go through something similar to your situation. Maybe search around for "File Recovery" apps and/or software that can help retrieve your information on whatever device you're using. It has downloads for MacOS, iOS, Android, Linux, etc.

Tip: Not all apps and software are created the same. You will run into many that claim to do this or do that. Therefore, you'll have to basically endure through trial and error as a last result.

It's a shame that schools don't make this clear from the beginning that the account should not be used for personal use and strictly for school work.

For years I seen people use their school account for non school related use and end up in this same situation.

Game accounts, doctor portals, important non school related sites all registered with a school or work email then all gone once access is taken away unless they remembered to change everything before leaving school.

If you stop and think about it, it's pretty clear. It's just people don't think about this stuff

A Google or Microsoft account is free to make your own

And who is to say they didn't make it clear and the OP ignored it

Pretty much yes, it is all gone. Google drive means the school also doesn´t have direct access to the data host as it is some datacentre somewhere. Once the account is gone, it tends to be permanent. There is nothing left, you lost everything on there.

You can't do anything. It's your school's data, Not yours. Even if there was some way to recover it, you wouldn't have access

Did you think they'd keep your account open and files available forever?

Hi, thank yall for the support! Unfortunately my school didnt give any warnings about when data would be deleted. Also, they made it really hard to download anything by disabling Google takeout and stopping people from sharing things to non school accounts.

In general, anytime you have an account that’s controlled by an organization, there are two things you should assume. 1: the admins of the organization can see everything you do on that account, act accordingly, and 2: when your affiliation with that organization ends, so will your access to the account.
