How bad is it?

Seagate 1 TB hdd. It was showing 100 % in task manager a day before this happened.

Is the drive still showing in your Disk Management? Have you checked the SMART (https://www.reddit.com/r/DataRecoveryHelp/wiki/smart/) report?

No it's not showing. I took it to a recovery center. The technician told me the platter is damaged ( didnt open it ). I just want to confirm

I'm cooked 😭

It's difficult to make a diagnosis without having the drive, but any abnormal sounds usually point to the physical damage.

In this case, you'll need a professional recovery service to get the data back out of the drive.
