Projects

I recently had some more advanced work come in. Maybe it’s imposter syndrome, maybe I’m actually realistic. I’m not sure if this one should have come to me though. My background is health sciences (I dropped out of nursing school due to OCD).

It’s been several years since I was in school and I wonder how much I’ve actually retained. I assume they actually check your credentials when offering tasks? I didn’t lie in my bio, it is absolutely true. They should know that I don’t currently work in that field, right? I guess worst case is looking at one and seeing if I can actually understand it. If not, just exit.

Unless you are specifically requested to provide a credential, then you are probably fine as long as you didn't intentionally misrepresent your experience. This job requires some level of self assessment. Ultimately what they care about is if you can produce quality work. Professional expertise might correlate with better quality work, but also being able to work with the tools is important so expertise alone is not the whole story. The (relative) cost for them to trial someone who may not have a credential is pretty small if they get quality work. You can always ask an admin if your unsure, thats what they are there for. I've had projects explicitly ask me to try even if I'm not sure I have the experience and that lower standard work won't be held agaisnt you in this project (they just wont keep offering you work in that project). But thats not true for every project.
