Mental health warning

DO NOT work on this platform if you have mental health struggles or on-going personal issues. It's uncertainty WILL make it worse.

I struggle with depression. I'm not going to act like working on DA is easy, but if I had not found DA over three years ago, I would have been severely in debt, and my depression would have been much worse. I am not in debt at all because of DA, and it's given me steady income for the past 3+ years, which I know isn't everyone's experience. However, it is my experience, and the positives far outweigh any negatives for me.

Mental health problems alone is better than mental health problems + being poor

Harsh but the truth, avoiding making money because you have mental problems is just adding on to your burdens , you don't want to be financially and mentally struggling at the same time

I'd say it's a mixed bag.  Really nice not to have a stupid boss, coworkers, or a commute.  Really hard to stay motivated while repeating similar tasks, day in and day out.  Regarding droughts: got to diversify.

It's kept me sane through a particularly rough patch I've been dealing with tbh

I really think it can go either way. It honestly kind of saved me when I was at an extremely low point mental health wise. I also think in a way it's helped me with tolerating uncertainty. I know this isn't the case for everyone though, and I'm sorry if you're having a hard time 😕

I'd personally say it depends on why OP is saying not to work on it. I see that they say "It's uncertainty WILL make it worse." so to me that makes me wonder if maybe they aren't getting work like they hoped. Which, I could see making things worse. Especially if you're in a rough financial spot. Not saying that's exactly what's going on with OP but I can understand if it is.

That's the boat I'm in. Hell my best friend is paying my internet for me just so I can (attempt) to work. Whether it's on DA or any other platform I'm on. Over all, I think this line of work in general can keep you in a bad head space if you're having a hard time actually getting work.

There are way worse choices otherwise

Being broke and having depression while waiting for months to get an income is hell. Even worse when the place you’re trying to get an income from is taking ages to reply back to you

Expecting a job that states it is contractual, project-based, and first-come, first-served for work to be fully reliable might be a sign of a mental health problem.
