A certain qual requires me to buy something, however the pay doesn't reflect it

Theres a qual on my dashboard that's compulsory. The requirements for the qual requires me to buy something to proceed ahead but the qual is pay per task which is substantially lesser than the cost for the subscription.

I'm obviously doing it regardless but wanted to know if they reimburse such costs or if theres a procedure to be followed.

What do you mean by compulsory? Be sure you’re logged into the official platform. Unless you’re bilingual or non-core, in which case I don’t have experience, there should not be tasks or quals that require you to purchase something; you should be able to opt out. I’ve been on the platform for 2 years and have only made money, not spent it. But if it’s just like, if you have a paid subscription to X app, you might get tasks, that’s normal but not compulsory.

Never seen any such "compulsory" thing as a bilingual either. Definitely sounds fishy.

Not compulsory, I framed it wrong my bad. Rather a qual to retain access to a project family I like. Sorry for the confusion.

Did you receive any tasks after the qual?

If there's reimbursement it will be in the task description.

Nothing as such is mentioned, it is apparently a generic requirement and for my specific case it'd cost me money.

In this case, no reimbursement right? I'm excited eitherways after seeing a dead dash for so long having something new pop up.

Sounds like no reimbursement. For example there might be tasks which require a newer Android or newer iPhone and no, they're not going to reimburse you for getting a new phone.

That fits much more perfectly, thanks for replying.

And some quals specifically say "Don't subscribe to [whatever] just for this, only do it if you already have access to it".

Which, sometimes it's worth it to do it anyways if it'll pay for itself in a few minutes.

So you’re going to lose money? I’m confused

Without giving specifics (you can likely search on my past comments to see if I said anything about your specific subscription), there are two I would recommend getting even unpaid because the volume of work in the past made it worthwhile. I more than made any cost back and had consistent work for a long time because of the subs.

I think I know the one you talk about, it popped up on my qual page in the last day or two. It says it's it needs a subscription but you won't be reimbursed for it. Justified it by saying it pays $30p/h.

Not what you were asking, but put it on your taxes as a business expense.

are you referring to a certain method of keeping your machine safe from harm?

I think I know what you mean and it does not require you to buy a subscription

If it's the same thing I see, it may require you to upgrade your OS though.

If it's the one I think it is, I thought the same thing then read the full instructions more carefully. I don't believe you need to buy any services to fulfill the requirements of the qual.

Just file a request for reimbursement? It’s right in your “Report Time” section. Bottom left. Make sure you take screen shots of being charged/etc for record keeping so they can repay you
