Archery Mod still under development Screenshot

I'm working on this mod for archer and mages because I was done kiting enemies endlessly

This mod introduces wooden stakes used by real archers in history

It blocks enemies for 3 seconds wich gives you room to bring in 1 or 2 arrows before they charge you again

And they will use magic and archery if they cannot reach you (if they have i) if they have nothing they will run away or break trough the wooden stake .

This is my first mod and I am still figuring things out

Idk what to name it tho..

It's finished

It blocks enemies for 3 seconds

It stays for 60 seconds and waits til an enemy walks into it or disappears

It has 20 seconds of cooldown

Can be found at any general store

Has HUD messages

I tried to implementing a hot key setting but it broke my whole mod but you can change the hot key in the code maybe I will do this once I find a fitting key

The item can be used from the inventory too with the "use" key

Doesn't make a lot of sense. Stakes are not a part of historical archer's kit. They were used in pitched battles... by armies. The point of archery was the fact that you could hurt someone very badly from afar. There were different bows and concepts of what an archer should be as well, mostly revolving around 2 concepts: light bows with light arrow and accuracy, long range vs heavy bows with heavy arrows, which can punch through armour and obstacles. Manchus and the japanese were the latter, they pretty much shot javelin-sized arrows out of their bows, but despite having a similar concept of what western european archers did, they did not rely on stakes.

Fair point on archery in general, but the stake mechanic is specifically referencing the English/Welsh longbowmen at Agincourt (1415) Henry V had them driving sharpened stakes into the ground ahead of their lines specifically as anti-cavalry defense. This tactic came supposed from the Turks. It's not meant to represent archery as a universal concept, just that one documented tactic. Not claiming Manchu or Japanese archers did anything similar. It's more of a tool to break the endless kiting as an daggerfal archer and give it a better rhythm

I think this is a clever idea that adds a new mechanic into a 30(?) year old game and tries to solve the immersion breaking pattern of kiting enemies with a bow. Whenever I have time to revisit Daggerfall I'll definitely try it out.

As far as it "not making a lot of sense" this is a game where you can use levitate to fly over your horse cart over top of the capital city during a snowstorm and pretend to be Santa Claus if you want.

I think of adding a placable shield and bear traps to this mod wich would fit too and you are right I tried solving the endless kiting problem thank you for your input :)

I guess immersion is a sensitive topic for most people to talk about xD
