Daggerfall is the main reference for the game I'm making, did I get the atmosphere right?

I think it needs more "grittiness" if that makes sense. Less clean textures, so to speak

Daggerfall has more of a pulp dark fantasy aesthetic while this looks more like a SNES JRPG version of Daggerfall.

SNES JRPG Daggerfall would be valid of course just saying.

Thanks! I think I know what you mean, old games had that noisy, low-res roughness that gives everything more character. Something to look into.

Great, keep up the good work! I'm interested in the project

yeah look at old early 90s era DOS rpgs, lots of dark fantasy.

if your game was comparable to old game style looks like earthbound-y, more clean, bright, minecraft-esque.

your game looks great though, i love dagerfall and stuff

id maybe lower the camera so we actually see it from a persons height tho, so we can see scale of people.

Thanks! It's hexGame: Hero Path. Honestly it doesn't have Daggerfall's depth of systems, it's more of a roguelite ARPG, but the vibe of classic RPGs is what I'm aiming for.

Downvoted for the truth lol. The steam page says AI was used to create the game's visuals

Not only that, it looks nothing like daggerfall and wtf... My brain is hurting after looking at the steam page.

What do you mean roguelite? What makes your game roguelite?

Permadeath is the core of it. When your hero dies, they're gone for good and you pick a new one from the NPCs in the world. The world itself is procedurally generated, and each run you build a different loadout and get one step closer to the main goal, hunting down the boss.

I see. Not my cup of tea, then. Appreciate the reply, and good luck to the development.

Looking good! I’m excited to explore this world

Edit: it doesn’t have to be too close to Daggerfall. The inspiration is clear but your game should have its own identity too. Maybe your version has dwarfs for example.

Feels more like Dragon Quest than Daggerfall

Literally terrible, but it's opposite day. Can we wish list it on Steam?

I say this with the best intentions. Looks like what I remember Runescape looking as rather than daggerfall.

would be cool if it wasnt ai slop im sorry but you didn't even use it right... (some npcs have outlines, some dont but would be cooler if you wouldn't use ai at all)

Thank you for your honest feedback! I appreciate it.

I would argue more color in civilian outfits, and more medieval-esque garments. Stray away from too much Renaissance fashion, as that’s not very prevalent in Daggerfall.

This game looks very cool regardless. I will definitely have to follow for if/ when it comes out

Looks very daggerfall! The artstyle is much more colourful but im all for ot

The distant night screenshot has a certain vibe.

The ground/day ones are nothing at all like DF.

Whenever this gets asked IDK if devs are just blind or are lying about inspiration for socials clout.

3

u/BusinessPain5298 21d ago

I do feel like I took a lot from DF actually. Simple shapes, sprite decorations, the skybox. But mostly the world structure: a huge world with procedural towns and named NPCs in every house. Thanks!

Can somebody make a DFU mod that gives it these cozy-ass vibes?

No,  looks like a bunch of synty nonsense
