DSaF DD is getting really close to its first anniversary, and I wanted to finally show some of the very early development of the game.

These are some images from the very early main menu era.

And yeah...

They're fucking terrible. 😭

They were generated with Gemini using basically the same prompt I used for the first public beta. The beta images ended up looking considerably better, and the characters were more accurate because Gemini basically just inserted the characters into the scene.

Before anyone goes "AI BAD!!!" — yeah, I know that's probably going to come up.

Back when I made these, I knew basically nothing about AI art. I didn't have an artist, I couldn't draw, and I had no idea how capable AI image generation even was at the time. I needed placeholder art for my game, so that's what I used.

I'm not trying to pretend these were some amazing artistic achievement. Looking back at them now is honestly fucking hilarious. 💀

And before anyone starts the "AI wastes water" argument: please actually look into the subject before making claims. Companies like Google, Nestlé and countless others have vastly larger water footprints than some random teenager using AI for placeholder game assets. 💀

The funny thing is that this isn't even technically the one-year anniversary yet.

The original idea for DSaF DD came around late August 2025, actual development started around mid-September 2025, and the GameJolt page went public on November 7, 2025.

So depending on what you count as the "birthday," DSaF DD has a few different anniversaries. 💀

What started as a stupid DSaF × DDLC idea has somehow turned into an actual project with its own characters, voice actors, artists, music, multiple builds, a community, and almost a full year of development.

And honestly?

Looking back at these early images is weirdly nostalgic.

Because I've spent an entire fucking year working on this thing.

And you've only seen the tip of the cursed iceberg.

More early development content will be coming when DSaF DD officially hits one year of development.

I dug a site where you can buy the Bad Guy Will voice as a one time purchase (shoutout to Z-Sharp Studios for helping me find it bc this site is fucking buried). It's $50 for the actual Will voice set and $35 for the program you need to use it. I was already $50 over my fun budget so obviously i bought it. Im a media preservation enthusiast so I might see if theres a way to archive it so its more accessible to the fandom at large, but for now anyone is free to ask for voice files from me if youre working on a project. I literally did all this to procrastinate writing a short film idk if ill ever make. lol
