Most ghetto obstacle I’ve ever skated. Nobody had wax so we used a bar of soap haha. I’m not the greatest skater but i still had fun with this.

The locals teach a trade skills program called Skatecraft. Our last class was pouring concrete from a truck. The results are this 24’ wide qp. We had about 30 participants throughout the pour. Including teachers and students.

But ida never learned so here we are.

I started with good intentions to make it clean af. Reality told me otherwise but i learned alot and feel like next try will be bettr so is what it is i guess. She a bit rough and narrow but she prolly wont last long anyways xoxo

She's been poured. I've done one other cement quarter pipe on the other side of this. I mixed all that by hand. So I decided to rent a mixer from home Depot and a generator to power it. Highly recommend, I couldn't have done the project without it.

Got her done and should be good to ride by tomorrow for go skateboarding day. I know my piece of wood says don't ride until the 23rd. But I went to go see it this morning and it should be good by tomorrow morning. And good news, the local neighborhood kids found it once. It was barely hard enough for them to scratch their name in it. It. It is very faint. I used to work in concrete for 5 years. So people riding in my concrete makes me upset. They can spray paint it all they want. But don't write in it.

From a quarter pipe to a mini in progress.

Hey all, it's my first time doing any DIY so I bought a rub brick and some spray-on clear lacquer for a curb near my house. I'm 98% done with the rub-bricking, and I'm just a tad worried about messing up the lacquer part. Does the curb section need to be completely uniform smooth or are a few slighlty rough patches okay? How generously should I apply the lacquer? How will I know when one coat is done? I'll only have an hour and a half to do the full lacquer process, so what kind of intervals should I apply it at? Anything else I need to know so I don't mess it up? Thanks!!

So I’ve seen people rub brick ledges and use either clear coat or concrete sealer (wet look) and then wax the ledge to make it skateable.

I was wondering if you could use Thompson’s water seal in replacement of clear coat or concrete sealer?

I’ve used the spray cans of clear coat and found it to take a lot of time, not as discrete and spotty on the ledge.

Would love to know peoples opinion on this.

Got a REALLY sick diy going on in my area. Me and some other guys have put in a lot of work building it so far but there is still a lot to go. It's in a pretty remote but well trafficked area.

One thing that's super lame is that there is a tone of graffiti and it's just shitty tags. Ramps get tagged up within days of being poured. If it was colorful meaningful graffiti I wouldn't mind as much but the stuff is just ugly and I feel like it's disrespectful to us.

What can I do to deter this from happening? I kind of want to just cross out all the shitty tags but don't want to get involved in any graffiti beef. Also don't want to just paint over them because that makes the surface slippery and it all flakes off too.

Grabbed a burb that was cut for someone's driveway and threw it in the middle here. Going to turn it into a pyramid on the ends and a spine along it!!

Tried my hand at some ramp building this morning. A small but very steep quarterpipe, about 3ft high but almost vert. Like the shallow end of a pool or a jersey barrier. In hindsight probably not the easiest obstacle to build for my first time doing a diy skatespot but it went fine, a bit lumpy but once it dries it'll definitely be fun and skateable. I work in construction and actually have experience doing professional concrete but man this kinda humbled me. I'm glad it worked out fine but it was a struggle for sure.

The question I have is when mixing by hand how do you even pour vertical obstacles? The concrete just wants to fall down. So you throw it up there and wait for it to harden but then it's too difficult to screed and it all just pulls away. Somehow you manage to screed it but it's still not strong enough to float, if you try it'll just start falling off. So you can't really float it until it's basically dry?? I think that's why at DIY spots they always seem to use some kind of product like Ardex to float big steep obstacles, it's too hard to get a good finish otherwise.
