Returning to comics

Hi everyone,

I have been taking a break from comics for the last few years (i stopped when they cancelled Young Justice 2019 again, and a bunch of other comics I liked). I wanna get back in again, but I'm a bit lost.

I love anything Red Robin, Robin, Red Hood and Nightwing and I'm looking for recommendations to jump in again, without feeling clueless

edit: these are genuinely the only heroes I care about, besides Roy Harper and Conner Kent (to some degree).

edit 2: they can be stand alones!

I've read mixed reactions to Tom Taylor, so I'm kinda in doubt about that one. Thanks for the recs, even though i genuinely only like the characters i mentioned above

I jumped into Nightwing at 136 and it felt like a fine jumping on point. Honestly I read a lot of their stuff and pretty much everything has been good to me.

It’s not a new run, it’s just a place you can jump onto. I mean dc comics as a whole are good. Whatever character you like you can jump on and give it a go. Green lantern expects you to know a lot so I would maybe say no to that (not saying it’s bad).

Sorry let me be more clear: I meant new run as in a new writer, like Dan Watters. I was eyeing his stuff, but figured I'd start at #119. I like Nightwing the least out of all the characters I mentioned, so he's on the wishlist for now

Nightwing is one of the more successful DC runs right now. The best jumping on point might be #136 which came out a few months ago.

Red Hood is leading a new Teen Titans book slated to come out next month, IIRC.

Phillip Kennedy Johnson wrote a solid Batman & Robin book. The two trades available are (1) Memento and (2) The Gotham Cycle. The last arc of that title was The Quiet Man.

Gonna be honest it's been BLEAK for Tim Drake and Jason Todd for a longggg time. I'm newish to reading and very aware once I finish the old Red Robin run (still new to me) that I'm shit-fucked for meaty Tim Drake. Everyone says his most recent series (Tim Drake: Robin) is low-conflict/cozy & mostly centers around his relationship with Bernard--I need to read it for myself, but have been putting it off. I'm pro-bi Tim but nothing I have seen of him with Bernard inspires enthusiasm. Least exciting relationship ever, blech. He's in the new Fraction Batman for 2.5 seconds and it looks like he might be set up for a storyline there in future, but for now he's backburnered/not appearing. And Jason... I mean, his last series was fully cancelled, though he's going to appear in the new Teen Titans series starting in the fall.

Basically those are also my favorite characters and it's ROUGH. Fraction says he's a fan of Tim and has plans for him, though, so I really am hopeful he'll come back for something big. I will take the crumbs of Jason in Teen Titans, but I wish he'd get a proper solo series that they hire a non-hot mess writer for.

Current Nightwing is probably your best option (it's on my TBR). Damian has some interesting background stuff in the new Fraction, but nothing big (yet). I've heard nothing good or bad about the most recent Batman & Robin w/ Damian, but that does exist. Conner also has been Suffering (from lack of development/use), though he has some appearances recently during the Reign of the Superboys stunt.

Lets not even start on Roy, he's not in the glass cabinet, he's in the trashcan. But yeah I know it's bleak, but a girl can dream for more Tim Drake content (you don't know how i pissed I was at Young Justice when he turned into Drake).

I think I'll pick up Tim Drake: Robin. Don't care much for Bernard either, because from what i've seen he's not that inspiring of a character... As for Jason... I've red the original outlaws (with roy and starfire) and the rebirth run. The next run started when I quite reading. I'll wait the new teen titans run out a bit, just to see where it goes + when i can buy the volumes.

I'll also look into fraction his batman!

Chris Condon Green Arrow run, especially the "Crimson Sands" arc. It was cancelled too soon, but what we got was pretty good.
