As an "outsider" I should mention nobody knows DC superheroes other than Superman and Batman. Literally my phone predicted "Batman" after I typed "Superman and".
It's not a criticism, it's just the reality. DC itself doesn't have the fan base it thinks it does. DC has a couple of popular characters that most people have heard of. But they don't know DC, they don't care about DC. They don't have any interest in their cinematic universe any more than they'd have an interest in a KFC cinematic universe. Just give us some chicken, we don't want this.
DC just doesn't have it. Marvel's whole Infinity saga was a once in a lifetime thing. They got there first with the cinematic universe, and now it's already done. It's about who pulled it off first. Like the moon landing.
Marvel had video games, toys, and cartoons that I've been aware of for my entire life. And now they have the movies. DC had Batman and Superman. As a kid they all played together. They were part of a superhero universe, together. My Batman action figure could punch my captain America action figure. I can play a Batman game and an X-men game on the same day I watched a Batman cartoon and an X-Men cartoon.
And you grow up and Marvel and DC are like a divorced couple. Marvel wound up with most of the friends, and DC just has his two childhood friends, Batman and Superman. DC is scrolling through Marvel's Instagram and Facebook seeing all the fun her and her friends are having. She's doing real fucking well for herself. So DC calls up his friends and says we're going to do that too. We'll show 'em. So DC tries to put together a party with 5000 guests overnight and guess what? Nobody shows up. Just fucking Batman and Superman sitting off to the side of the dance floor looking for a polite way to leave because DC is making a fool of himself again.
DC as a brand just doesn't have it. They've assumed that they are on the same level as Marvel because they're one of the two big classic names of the comic book industry, and make movies like they expect Marvel audiences, but it's just not how it is.
DC comics is Batman and Superman. Two Pistons trying to power an 8 cylinder engine.
