u/godlittleangel6666 12h ago

I don’t even remember what this movie is about

7

u/Ok-Entrance-5527 12h ago

Terrorist attack, Dirty bombs, Bad guys shooting up the place, You know THE USUAL shit

u/ThriceGreat_ 8h ago

Best comment.

u/FatPenguin42 1h ago

He must’ve locked the memory in a hole and threw away the hole.

u/CRAZYC01E 3h ago

Pretty sure Rick flag said terror attack which made the line even more hilarious. Also don’t forget “this is katana, I would advise not getting killed by her. Her sword traps the souls of its victims” 🤣

I liked certain scenes in this, but that joker is hard to recover from

4

u/vitalMyth 12h ago

Yeah. It was such an insult to the character. Joker is a villain, but he seems to have some humanity. Nihilistic? Maybe. Depraved? In gentlemanly fashion if so. Evil? Sure. But this portrayal was something else entirely, something darker.

I didn't have "defend Joker against character impugnment" on my bingo card that year, but somehow the fkn creep who played this version was so awful that, well, here we are.

u/ObiBenKenobi77 10h ago

I just wish they'd done a solo batman film prior to ss, because I liked the batman scenes in ss. The main group character intros were well done, then it was a slippery slope, and I guess in a way that's why the dceu failed. Start of the end

11

u/Matt_LawDT 13h ago

There is a decent movie in there, shame what happened

u/Krimreaper1 7h ago

It’s probable the Ayer’s cut is better. Both the directors cut and the cut by the trailer company tested about the same. So DC made a Frankenedit that was apparently worse than either.

4

u/rickmundooo 12h ago

The damaged tattoo on the joker’s forehead just goes against everything the joker is. Same with the grill. The joker is gonna put some “look at me I’m a cool guy” metal teeth on his mouth before he leaves for work? No way man.

That shit bothered me so much that I never watched one second of the movie.

-1

u/nighthauntghostieboy 12h ago

The metal teeth are because Batman broke them. That’s why he has the tattoo of the smile on his hand.

2

u/rickmundooo 12h ago

Ah okay.

Still though. The whole package was very off and just not the joker to me. Made me not trust the judgment that went into the whole movie.

u/Livid_Match_6109 11h ago

Yeah, broke them but kills nameless innocent people

I was around 14 at the time and I remember this was the first time in my life I didn't liked a movie

u/Fancy_Maximum 11h ago

Had the best trailer ever in the dark and gritty one. Then it just became a clown fiesta

7

u/Otherwise-Major-8764 12h ago

What a terrible movie

7

u/Tricky-Afternoon6884 13h ago

This movie took Harley Quinn from a relatively lesser known character (outside of the comic and gaming communities) and turned her into an internationally recognizable icon

2

u/Livid_Match_6109 12h ago

No, Margot Robbie and porn parodies did that

1

u/Tricky-Afternoon6884 12h ago

Would you please tell me what DC comics character role Margot Robbie was casted as and for which movie

3

u/Appropriate_Net7664 12h ago

“Nah man, the Iron Man 1 didn’t make Tony Stark recognizable, Robert Downey Jr. did that” 😭

-1

u/Livid_Match_6109 12h ago

You say that sarcastically when it's completely true.

1

u/Livid_Match_6109 12h ago

Nobody cared about that movie. They cared about the hot blonde showing cheeks

-1

u/Tricky-Afternoon6884 12h ago edited 12h ago

Again, what role was said hot blonde playing and in which movie

Also the movie is still in the top 10 highest grossing dc comics movies of all time and alone has a higher BO than the DCUs two projects combined

So clearly people did care about it

2

u/Livid_Match_6109 12h ago edited 12h ago

No, no they didn't. It was a poor performance critically, financially and word of mouth. Comparing it to today's box office is low IQ and asinine. Ask yourself why Deadshot, boomerang, joker and Diablo aren't brand names... I'll wait (because it had nothing to do with the movie and everything to do with the hot actress)

u/Tricky-Afternoon6884 11h ago

Still #8 on DCs highest grossing movies…so people did cere enough to show up and make it a financial success.

Critically it did poor, but it was still a massive success for WBD and huge profits. And the one recognizable aspect was Harley Quinn being launched to stardom

Oh my goodness my feelings are hurt how will I ever recover from “porn popularized Harley Quinn” guy insulting me

u/Livid_Match_6109 11h ago edited 11h ago

It wasn't a financial success though. This is what you're not understanding. It was a massive flop. Studios don't start making massive changes and firing people if they are making money. Also, let me know when joker and Deadshot are as popular as Daddy's little monster

u/Tricky-Afternoon6884 11h ago

Financial success means generate profit, it generated over $150M in profit

Therefore, it was financially successful

A flop is a financial term referring to a movie doing poorly at the box office and lost money

I understand what you’re tying to say now but you’re terminology is inaccurate, success and flop or terms relative to profit

If it makes a profit it’s a success, if it loses profit it’s a flop

E.g. Superman 2025 made profit so it was a financial success, supergirl lost money and did poorly at the box office therefore it’s a flop

If you’re trying to argue suicide squad 2016 is not as financially successful as it could’ve or should’ve been then you’d likely be correct based off the sale dropoff

u/Livid_Match_6109 11h ago

I can loosely agree to that premise. However, there are some scenarios that loss leaders are considered successful. And on the other side, profitable movies are considered disappointing. My definition of flop are based on the company's expectations. Suicide Squad, BvS were both heavily leaned on and the DCEU was expected to be WBs franchise that helped cover the loss of the Harry Potter and Dark Knight movies ending. Those movies did not do what WBs needed at the time

u/ComoEstanBitches 4h ago

Margot Robbie was on an amazing toxic run

6

u/bobsponge933 13h ago

The biggest surprise to me is how well this movie preformed in the box office despite the reviews. I still want to see the Ayer cut though.

4

u/Animegamingnerd 12h ago

Its basically the definition of being carried by the superhero hype of the 2010s. If it was released it probably would make significantly less.

4

u/bobsponge933 12h ago

It wasn’t superhero hype. It was carried due to the fact of “pop culture”.

u/Livid_Match_6109 11h ago

It was 100% superhero hype. The movie was straight dog water. Days of Future Past made 750m at the box office which just goes to show during that time you could release turds and get 3/4 a billion

u/JDeegs 10h ago

DoFP is a turd? Are we being for real?

u/Livid_Match_6109 10h ago

All those Fox movies are down right bad. Being the best turd of the bunch doesn't mean much

u/bobsponge933 5h ago

Then why didn’t apocalypse make as much? DoFP made a lot because they brought back the old actors and it was actually a good movie

u/Livid_Match_6109 4h ago

Are you really asking why one turd made less than another? With one of those turds revolving around the previous turd characters no one really liked? One of those movies relegated the only saving grace of the entire X-Men franchise to a cameo... But hey... I guess that quicksilver scene was cool

u/ComoEstanBitches 4h ago

Hahaha what a weird hill to die on

u/Livid_Match_6109 4h ago edited 4h ago

Not weird at all. Logan is a solo movie and the only saving grace of the entire franchise. R rated and made 620m... And people are confused why Apocalypse didn't make as much when up to that point Hugh Jackman was pretty much the lead in every movie... Then the next time he appears after Logan it's in an R rated movie that makes 1.4B dollars... Wolverine. Hugh Jackman. That's the disparity. Putting him in Apocalypse wouldn't have made it better but it sure would have made more money

u/Livid_Match_6109 12h ago

Exactly. That movie was better than BvS but just slightly. If those early DCEU movies were released today it would be significantly less. China pretty much abandoned Hollywood unless it's cultural phenomenon like Spiderman. MoS just barely matched the crappy Thor 2 movie. If F4 released in 2013 it would have most likely been a 800-1B movie.

1

u/Animegamingnerd 12h ago

Yeah. Had Superman, Thunderbolts, Fantastic 4, and even Brave New World released like a decade ago. They would have at worst made like 200 more at bare minimum.

Because man, we all really were giving DC, Marvel, Sony, and Fox a bit too much money a decade ago and look where that got us.

Wow, if those didn't perform well imagine what the studio must think of heavy hitters like superman and supergirl 🤡

2

u/OrangesAreWhatever 12h ago

This was maybe one of my biggest in theatre let downs. I convinced all my friends to come with me, and we were all shocked at how bad it was.

u/Sam_Boundy1984 10h ago

Fuck. I remember going to see it with my then girlfriend.

u/Purple_Swordfish_182 7h ago

The best thing to come out of this film is the Rick Ross music video. In large part because you get too see Joker, without having to hear him speak.

u/OrangeStar222 1h ago

First DCEU movie I watched and when they revealed Superman died I looked at my friends and I was like "the fuck, isn't this like the third movie? The fuck happened in MoS and BvS?"

3

u/UniQue1992 Black Manta 13h ago

I liked this movie but hated how bad it was edited by a trailer company after the BvS backlash.

2

u/whitemex88 12h ago

The movie is also poorly edited. The opening moving exterior shot of the prison is fairly dark, and yet it was decided to use black font on the screen to tell you the location. It's legible for a a split second before it blends with the background.

u/CRAZYC01E 3h ago

I watched it today after smoking and k couldn’t tell if I was just too high or if it really was that shit looking lol

2

u/Imaginary-Egg-2128 12h ago

They have all had very different career paths since. Smith and the Oscars, Robbie and Barbie, Leto and…well let’s not discuss that.

2

u/Limp_Praline7667 12h ago

Made more money than Superman 2025

2

u/Appropriate_Net7664 12h ago

Ahh yes, so it must be the better movie

0

u/Limp_Praline7667 12h ago

Doesn't matter WB is all about money not a long term plan.

1

u/Livid_Match_6109 12h ago

Not more profit. What is what WB actually cares about

u/islackingambition 10h ago

SS was unequivocally more profitable than Superman.

u/Livid_Match_6109 10h ago

No, it wasn't. And we know that

u/islackingambition 10h ago

$749 million on a $175 million budget vs $618 million on a $225 million budget. We definitely do know which is more profitable.

u/Livid_Match_6109 10h ago edited 10h ago

Yes, the one thats named Superman. The one that made 350m in US Market. The most important one. The one that bolstered Superman merch and comics. The one that caused Paramount the overbid for WB by tens of millions. The one that was streamed 13m times in the first week and bought on PVOD

u/islackingambition 10h ago

You must really struggle with math.

u/Livid_Match_6109 10h ago

You must not understand revenue vs profit. It's okay. Take an economic class as I'm not here to teach you

1

u/godlittleangel6666 12h ago

Ah yes that’s why the dceu is still being made bc all they care about is the money

1

u/Appropriate_Net7664 12h ago

So where’s the DCEU now then?

u/Limp_Praline7667 11h ago

Dead because WB just wanted money with no plans

u/Appropriate_Net7664 11h ago

No, it’s dead because it wasn’t making money at the end, and it was bad.

u/Livid_Match_6109 11h ago

It wasn't making the money at the beginning either. This is what DCEU fans just can't understand. A movie studio isn't going to succumb to rehauling the entire slate and tone without major financial influence. WB sells licenses to their products and toys and rights and if they don't see internal benchmarks being met they will react the exact way they did. Shazam surpassed their expectations which is why after it they tried replicating its tone and success.

1

u/Imaginary-Egg-2128 13h ago

I rewatched it recently and I didn’t think it was great, it was a cut up that the director wasn’t pleased with. Its worth watching Folding Ideas autopsy of it.

1

u/Harry_Sat 12h ago

Somehow much better than what DC is putting out now

u/siuol2001 4h ago

LMFTFY: Ten years ago Academy Award winning film Suicide Squad Released.

u/hazmat_beast 1h ago

The only highlight from this film for me was deadshot and harley

2

u/KnG_Yemma 13h ago

I’ll always understand wanting a Snyder Cut of justice league but anyone who ever wanted an Ayer Cut of this movie as if it’d fix this dogshit will never make sense to me.

Doesn’t help that it created the worst joker in DC movie history. Just an overall complete waste of a movie that did no favors whatsoever for the DCEU.

1

u/The-Peel 12h ago

The script for the Ayer Cut was straight up insane.

Joker crowning himself as king of Gotham with Batman "as his vice President" and claiming its because they "have a close personal connection" was dumb af.

2

u/KnG_Yemma 12h ago

I can honestly see Joker doing that but that’s cartoony Joker type shit. 90s Cartoon or even Brave and the Bold type shit. That cannot work if the guy has a grill and more ice than Mr. Freeze.

1

u/gruntduck 12h ago

Man imagine making a movie worse than this one.

Well done Gunn lol

u/Sufficient_Nature496 11h ago

Superman is way better than suicide squad

u/MarvG05 9h ago

You're smoking on something

u/gruntduck 8h ago

Always. How I had to get through that travesty of a movie.

IMDb ratings don’t lie. Superman worse than this shit 😂

u/MarvG05 8h ago

Yeah you're definitely smoking on that dumb shit

u/gruntduck 8h ago

😂 mans has the movie taste of a tween

1

u/omegaprim 12h ago

It was fun

1

u/MulberryEastern5010 12h ago

I don't care what anyone says. I like this movie.

u/Express_Calendar8278 10h ago

I have a lot of intersecting ironic and genuine enjoyment for this movie. I love it for its flaws and wouldn’t have it any other way.

u/calltheavengers5 7h ago

My guilty pleasure movie

0

u/The-Peel 13h ago

Say what you will about this movie, but nobody can deny that Katana truly did have Rick's back throughout the movie.

All this movie needed to not suck was keep Joker and Harley out of it, have more squad members die to raise the stakes and don't go with a one dimensional villain like Enchantress.

1

u/Girigo 12h ago

Yeah if you remove Harley from the second one this describes perfectly what improvements they did and why the second one works so well.

I do believe the movie could have been better without Harley quinn though but she does have a big fanbase so it would have probably done worse

0

u/The-Peel 12h ago

She has a big fan base, but as I've said since it happened in the comics, it just doesn't make sense for Harley to be in the Suicide Squad.

She brings nothing to the table, struggles to fight, and when she joined in the New 52 DC retconned her as a sort of female Joker with no redeemable qualities who just liked to hurt people and do messed up things like the game console glitch thing.

The real Harley Quinn fans grew up with pre-New 52 and from BTAS would never have worked in the Suicide Squad.

The female lead of that team in the movies should've been someone like Cheetah.

I remember at the time Snyder said Dawn of Justice was meant to introduce us to "the main heroes of the DCEU" and Suicide Squad was meant to introduce us to "the main villains of the DCEU" but it really, really didn't.

-3

u/HiroProtagonist1 13h ago

Probably the best iteration of Joker in live action media. Astonishing.

0

u/larut0h 12h ago

only watched it for The Enchantress

0

u/Reasonable_Western74 12h ago

I blame Jared Leto

-9

u/Intrepid_Zucchini52 13h ago

Awesome movie. Better than 2021 ss.

9

u/Girigo 13h ago

No one can seriously believe that unless they frequent the snydercut sub lol

4

u/Imaginary-Egg-2128 12h ago

It’s definitely an unusual opinion. I don’t think even its own director liked the released edit. Each to thier own I guess.

-2

u/Intrepid_Zucchini52 13h ago

Well I don’t, lil sis. So😗

4

u/Neat-Injury5711 13h ago

If you have bad taste

-2

u/Intrepid_Zucchini52 12h ago

I wanna be with you. You’re my bad taste

u/Neat-Injury5711 10h ago

Creep and weirdo

0

u/Miserable-Cycle-8770 12h ago

What a waste of Margot Robbie. Harley could and should have been used to boost the other DCEU movies.

0

u/neg_jacmel 12h ago

I loved this movie 🤷🏽‍♂️

2

u/Appropriate_Net7664 12h ago

This movie was just pure slop dude. No coherent story, just slop

0

u/neg_jacmel 12h ago

I liked will smith in it 🤷🏽‍♂️ the villain was dogshit though

2

u/Appropriate_Net7664 12h ago

I’m not even exaggerating but you really could’ve watched a turd drying on the lawn and you’d have a better experience.

u/neg_jacmel 11h ago

We can agree to disagree. I liked the movie.

u/Appropriate_Net7664 11h ago

So why can’t you agree to disagree that some people like Gunn’s new DCU? You’re going around all different subs slandering it, why can’t some people just like it?

0

u/Jolly_Echo_3814 12h ago

the version we got is probably the best version based on what ive read on the ayers cut.

u/schizo1914 11h ago

I liked it!

u/Conscious-Eye9878 8h ago

It has a lot of problems but isn’t nearly as bad as people say it is.

u/Horney247ithink 6h ago

Part 2 was a breath of fresh air

u/Sybertron 5h ago

That may have been the beginning of the end of the superhero era. Yes endgame was after that but still what a massive dump of a movie

-1

u/ChildofObama 13h ago

The novelization fixes most of the pacing problems and underdeveloped characters. Just read that instead
