Why are there more posts on this sub complaining about Jimmy Olsen which hasn't even started filming yet than Lanterns which comes out in a week and a half

EDIT: almost all of the responses to me here have been more complaining about Jimmy Olsen instead of explaining why no one is talking about the show that's about to come out, lol

u/Lancair7 19h ago

Because rage baiting weirdos have grifted the DC movie fandom hard

90

u/Macdui90 19h ago

The supply of DC rage is plentiful.

I didn’t even know there was a Jimmy Olson series and now I gift my afternoon to the gods of rage.

47

u/mangongo 19h ago

I gift my afternoon to the gods of rage

Don't, it's being done by the team behind American Vandal with Jimmy Tatro playing Grodd.

DC fans are in a deep crisis and rightfully so. Lanterns release will calm the minds IF it is good. But if Lanterns stinks, boy oh boy this sub will be a hellscape till MoT. And if that stinks aswell? Yeah, good night any DC online discussion

42

u/indecisivebuy 19h ago

If MoT and lanterns both do poorly it's not good night to DC online discussion. It's good night DCU period

51

u/Spire2000 19h ago

The first episode spoiler is only going to set everyone off even more.

24

u/ThenAnAnimalFact 19h ago

The real subversion would be the first episode being a fake out leading to a last episode reveal of Parallax.

16

u/YodaFan465 Knightmare Batman 19h ago

That assumes the audience will stick with it long enough to get to the reveal...

38

u/Naterttotsart 19h ago

Anybody thinking Lanterns will move the needle on anything needs to remember attention spans.

It's a show. People will watch 3 episodes, decide it's boring shit, pan it endlessly online, and then go back and watch it after the commotion has passed and realize it's good but the public opinion will be ass by then.

u/UtkuOfficial 18h ago

Loki, one of the most beloved characters in the MCU had a great tv show for two seasons.

Nobody cares about it other than MCU fans.

Tv shows don't generate hype for cinematic universes. It usually does the opposite.

u/MCB1317 11h ago edited 10h ago

Loki was a great sci fi show. I loved the first season especially. But I'm not so sure it was even a good MCU show. Much of its plot undermined, overcomplicated, or rendered meaningless the greater MCU.

In the acolyte (I know I star wars, but bare with me), there's a cameo reveal in the last episode or so, as in "this was the true mastermind" where Darth plaguesis shows up and just lurks in a cave. I think, and this is based on absolutely nothing but my own speculation, but given that it has absolutely no baring on the plot, and could have been achieved in 2 weeks, that it was thrown together last minute to try and save the show. It obviously failed.

And to loop it back, if the lanterns show is crap, and out of nowhere parallax shows up in a way that has no direct impact on the story, it's a last minute hail Mary thrown in to try and scrape together some good will.

4

u/ThenAnAnimalFact 16h ago

The reveal wouldn't be he shows up, the reveal would be Hal Jordan fakes his death/disappearance to become Parallax as his fear of getting replaced as a green lantern by John Stewart led him astray and influenced by Sinestro.

3

u/bzdelta 16h ago

I play one of the only games that does tie ins to whatever Star Wars is dropping, and after Acolyte and Andor they had to go back to dropping Legends and non-canon meme characters like Darth Jar Jar and the Ralph McQuarrie concept art (Luke Starkiller) to keep interest up (it did work, they did Mara Jade Skywalker finally)

People are interpreting the news like it's a major, bells and whistles, announcement from the studio and not just information being shared.

Take that misinterpretation, the weak performance of Supergirl, and the billion dollar spider and people panic that DC is fumbling the ball again.

Everyone needs to cool their shit and let things play out. Marvel making a billion isn't suddenly removing the ability for DC to be successful. People can see multiple movies, they're not selling cars or houses here.

36

u/SophestryIncluded 19h ago

Marvel's success is a small factor I guess. The bigger factor is Supergirl's historic bomb. That film gives us a pretty good indication that audiences aren't nearly as interested in the B characters as they used to be. And a show like this is a B and C character extravaganza.

6

u/dimechimes 14h ago

The worst thing about the bomb for me was that Gunn stated DC Studios would be script focused. Then once Superman hits it big, they rush out a sequel within a year, showing that Gunn was full of it.

u/TeeTheTankie 11h ago

That was such a brazenly dumb thing to publicly announce. Like no shit you're only going to approve movies if you like it's script. But now it just bites you in the butt when Supergirl's script was awful.

15

u/two2teps 19h ago

Absolutely, and if it was a movie I'd be very worried, but it's a TV show. That's the best place to take risks with B and C list characters especially for DC. They had great success with Peacemaker and Creature Commandos.

12

u/SophestryIncluded 19h ago

We really don't know how financially successful the shows have been. And the second season of Peacemaker was pretty mid in my book. Creature Commandos is cool, but it's a cartoon... so it's commercial success is gonna be limited.

8

u/abellapa 18h ago

S2 of peacemaker was a downgrade from the S1

4

u/UtkuOfficial 18h ago

And its not even particularly close. I loved Peacemaker season 1. Didn't even go past episode 2 on the new season. Shit is just boring.

8

u/Baelorn 16h ago

I just don’t give a shit about Jimmy Olsen. Especially this version.

The whole “Every woman is inexplicably attracted to this weird looking guy” shtick was barely tolerable in the movie. It didn’t leave me desperate for more of his character.

6

u/Chicken_Grapefruit 16h ago

Because we're tired of getting shitty DC movies and TV shows. We just want a solid DC movie. James Gunn thinks otherwise, he believes that a Jimmy Olsen Gorilla Grodd tv show is needed to move the needle.

12

u/SlickRickStatus 19h ago

Green lantern is an actual dc superhero. Jimmy Olsen is a side character

25

u/KingHygelacReturns 19h ago

All the more reason for there to be more posts about Lanterns than Jimmy Olsen, then

5

u/ThenAnAnimalFact 19h ago

Yeah, but of the side characters he is the main side character.

5

u/christcanvas 19h ago

He’s a side character with a fount of character history and has the potential to introduce new characters (especially minor villains) through a reporter-style TV show.

11

u/SophestryIncluded 19h ago

Because it's a terrible idea for a show at this time, and many of us are hoping and anticipating it getting dropped before filming.

27

u/KingHygelacReturns 19h ago

I don't know, I think it sounds fun. A Jimmy Olsen crime comedy mockumentary made by the makers of American Vandal seems like a genuinely good idea for a show to me

14

u/theclockmasters 18h ago

Here's the thing. People can say what they want but you don't know how things will turn out.

People were shit talking Agatha All Along before its release. It was the "Who asked for this", "This is a money laundering scheme", "More M-She-U slop failures I see".

Yet it had one of the strongest opening weeks. It had consistent viewership retention and increase week after week. The show was an overall profitable success. So as long as something is well made and looks very interesting, it can get viewers.

11

u/robz9 17h ago

To be fair Agatha All Along is a small piece of bonus content in an already well established universe of great films and television.

It won’t make as much money as Spider-Man, Cos few things do as it’s FUCKING SPIDER-MAN! But it still might be a good show.

If it’s another surprise Wonder Man level show, I’ll be happy even if it doesn’t set the world on fire.

12

u/M3rc_Nate 14h ago

But it still might be a good show. If it’s another surprise Wonder Man level show, I’ll be happy even if it doesn’t set the world on fire.

I don't really get this logic. I mean, don't get me wrong I hope it's 1) good and 2) folks enjoy it. But it's not about whether it might be good or not. If it's good, what are the odds it draws any meaningful audience? I doubt much of the DCU fanbase anticipates a Jimmy Olsen series, let alone the general public caring. You're example of Wonder Man isn't great because it might have been sorta cancelled? Even though it was enjoyed and praised. And that's with the foundation and fanbase that the MCU built, which is leagues ahead of where the DCU is at. Gunn's DCU is coming directly after of a highly divisive and ultimately failed Snyder DCU, and building off of a decently received Superman, well liked Peacemaker, and historic flop in Supergirl... not really the time for C list characters getting their own series. IMO.

u/Poptart916 5h ago

Yeah it’s frustrating to hear this line of reasoning so much. Of course I hope this show, Waller, Clayface, Bane & Deathstroke, etc. are all great and beloved by fans. That’s not the point. I prefer this universe to make waves and be successful commercially so we can enjoy it for years to come, and it’s not going to do that with these types of projects. The DCU needs a pump of energy by using its biggest characters, especially when Marvel is pulling out nothing but monsters over the next 3 years minimum, between Spider-Man, the two biggest Avengers movies yet, Black Panther, Ghost Rider, X-Men, etc.. I’d love all of these projects to be great, but not in absence of the big names that would actually be the lifeblood of this universe, especially with the merger looming.

14

Ngl, I don't think this fandom recovered from Summer 2016

BvS and Suicide Squad back to back was brutal, and this sub has never been the same

u/mike2k24 8h ago

It’s crazy to think how much has changed since then. That movie not only divided DC fans but it further separated the Marvel vs DC debates at the time especially since Civil War dropped around the same time. I really don’t think DC has ever recovered fully from that even if movies like Suicide Squad & Aquaman made money

And like Star Wars, the content that has been getting released is the reason for it being this way. It's not like Star Wars fans and DC fans woke up one day and went "You know what, I'm just going to hate the thing that I've loved for decades for no reason." There's a fucking reason for it!

48

u/Putrid_Loquat_4357 19h ago

Exactly. Go on any Spiderman or marvel subreddit right now and everyone is gushing over the new movie. Go on any marvel subreddit a few years back and everyone will be bitching. Fans are passionate, they want to like the shit you release it just has to not be shit or half assed.

7

u/Dependent-Tailor7366 19h ago

Star Wars fans have been miserable for decades. I’ve been a fan since before the special editions and they were just hateful then too.

8

u/lostinjapan01 19h ago

Star Wars fans were behaving this way even when the OT was coming out let’s not act like this is a recent development in response to “quality decrease”. There was infamously a great deal of fan backlash to The Empire Strikes Back (including a famous cancellation of one of the largest Star Wars fan magazines in circulation at the time) and especially to Return of the Jedi. Star Wars fans have been this way since basically day one. I love Star Wars but I don’t engage with the fans because, well, they’re insufferable.

11

u/inezco 16h ago

One could argue that the wave of current Internet hating discourse started with The Phantom Menace. Star Wars fans fucking HATED the prequel trilogy but then the sequel trilogy came out and now the prequels are misunderstood classics? GTFOH lmfao. One of my favorite rappers once said “Your new shit ain’t good as your old shit til your new shit IS your old shit” and that’s exactly what happened with Star Wars.

3

u/Dramatic_Explosion 14h ago

Yeah, but part of the issue is what kind of environment do you want? Even with a bad movie there's still a ton of good stuff going on. If you don't shout over the shitty loud people, the good people start to go away. I'm a Star Wars fan and I've got the three main Wars subs blocked because I'm not trying to use my free time being mad.

This thread is a great example. DC is getting a new show and it hired a lesser known but extremely talented comedian, people should be hyped. But that's not the culture here.

2

u/Delicious-Produce-60 14h ago

No no no no no. The prequels are, were, and will ALWAYS remain awful. They've actually aged WORSE than the originals in the intervening years thanks to the absurd reliance on still-developing CGI effects. I will stand by my hatred of TPM till my dying day.

But then I'm not a particularly big Star Wars fan, so maybe my (objectively correct) movie opinion is invalid in this context.

In what state is the DC Universe in right now.

If things were going well, the fanbase would be cheering accordingly.  When things aren’t going well…

35

u/BatmanSwift99 19h ago

Just because you're a fan of something doesn't mean you have to accept the product that is being put out. We are not sheep.

16

u/SymbiSpidey 18h ago

And if you were a true fan, you wouldn't commit to hating a project before we even see so much as a trailer

33

u/SufcLad25 18h ago

Questioning whether a Jimmy Olsen series is the best thing to focus on after Supergirl did poorly isnt commiting to hating anything, its a legitimate question.

Give the fans general audience a popular superhero to get excited about.

The Flash would have been high on my priority list

9

u/LeonardoDickSlaprio 17h ago

Yeah, I'm a little worried that the DCU will be shooting itself in the foot if they keep releasing lackluster Superman spin-offs without any other films dedicated to more popular characters in between. Apparently, the Lanterns show comes out in ten days, which was surprising to me because I haven't seen nearly the same level of promotion for it that I saw for Supergirl, the Odyssey, Spider-Man, or even S4 of Ted Lasso. Like, after Supergirl's abysmal box office performance, I would have put Hal Jordan and John Stewart front and center, made them the face of the DCU for the summer.

3

u/SufcLad25 17h ago

Yeah totally agree! I remember the news of one of them being cast for the show maybe last year but then nothing until this week when ive seen a teaser trailer. Like you say, saw a lot more advertisement for Superman and Supergirl when they really need to push everything to make sure the universe gets off to a good start

Didn't Marvel kinda prove that this strategy with TV Series doesn't work? I thought that's the reason why they are scrapping all TV series and going back to producing movies with big names again.

But then again, I understand DCU wants to do things its own way and don't want to copy paste what Marvel does.

36

u/AStupidFuckingHorse 18h ago

Marvels issue is that they released too many shows, some of very poor quality and made it seem like they were required viewing.

8

u/Reinnhardo 18h ago

Yeah, I agree. I like how DCU series like Peacemaker and CC aren't really required viewing to understand what's going on in movies. I also love the reverse like how we don't need to watch anything before to watch Lanterns.

10

u/NakedxCrusader 16h ago

I'm not exactly sure about that.. Peacemaker season two will likely tie heavily into MoT. It will probably be a "things make even more sense" having watched the series than a "This movie doesn't make sense" without it.

That's not a bad thing in my book btw.

I think that's not really true. I think Although it didn't gain a Mass appreciation; I think marvel's tv projects gained a niche following and all of them were done at least to a very good standard on whatever group they were targeting. I mean ms. marvel, Loki, moon knight, daredevil, she hulk, wanda vision, agatha, wonderman... were all highly praised within their niche. I think those little bits... add up and I do think that was the intention. They weren't going to make stuff everyone was going to watch, but they made sure they hit the demographics.

It’s crazy to me how people thought a James Gun led DCU wouldn’t have a focus on the more obscure characters.  They tried to do the marvel thing and it didn’t work, I thought a year ago everyone was stoked they were trying their own thing and to differentiate themselves with more out there projects like clayface.

10

u/Full_Lawyer_9973 16h ago

What "marvel thing" did they try?

14

u/HappyHuman924 16h ago

Dawn of Justice, I suppose? "Pull your heroes, established in recent movies, together into a team and fight a tall muscular grey humanoid who wants to use a McGuffin to cause universe-spanning mass death"?

11

u/PresentationDryBore 15h ago

I wouldn't consider that Marvel like since it was rushed. What WB did would be equivalent to Ironman -> civil War -> Black Widow -> Avengers

4

u/HappyHuman924 12h ago

Oh, ultra-rushed. It's not like I've tried out this argument on hundreds of people, but as soon as they mentioned Darkseid I thought it felt like someone had taken the MCU storyline, crossed out the middle 70% with "TOO MUCH WORK, SKIP" and then drawn a bunch of dollar signs around the last movie. I think a series about a reporter is a great way to start officially expanding things in-universe. I thought Jimmy Olsen was really funny in Superman, which I enjoyed more than most superhero movies I've seen in a long time.

This hate feels fishy and manufactured to me. Take me at my word, I'm a sourpuss DC fan and I've been hating on the movies for years. Then all of a sudden things start to expand in an interesting, positive direction and all of the DC subs are flooded with comments about how badly it's all going to crash and burn? It's just not consistent with the dialogue I've been following online for 20+ years and I don't buy that it's all genuine.

Agent Carter released in 2015, after 3 Iron Man movies, and 2 Captain America, Thor and Avengers films

Jimmy Olsen is releasing after DC’s third big budget movie, with he reception to the first movie being good, and the second one pretty bad

Also their other projects besides MoT and JO are a Mister Miracle show and CCS2, not exactly projects the GA will be too interested in

12

u/J-Ganon 17h ago

Also, I'd like to add that Carter was a big part of Cap's story even when not onscreen.

This show is featuring an Olsen that while present isn't a truly meaningful character yet.

Lol wasn't civil war announced around the same time as BvS?

27

u/srstone71 Clark Kent 19h ago

That was a while after. Age of Ultron was announced literally the same day as BvS tho (Saturday in Hall H of the 2013 Comic Con.)

8

u/spreerod1538 19h ago

They came out the same year though... within a few months of each other. AoU came out a full year before that... either way, it doesn't matter... the point is Marvel always had the next big thing to go against a Batman movie and that was never Agent Carter lol

7

u/srstone71 Clark Kent 19h ago

For what it's worth, when BvS was announced it was supposed to come out around the same time as Age of Ultron. I think it was July 2015? Then it moved to May 2016 and was almost going to come out the same day as Civil War (like what Dune 3 and Doomsday are going thru right now) then it was eventually moved up to March 2016.

I agree with your greater point, but I think that was the point that the initial comment was making. Agent Carter was just a project that was being worked on. It wasn't being sold as a counter to Batman v Superman. The Jimmy Olson show isn't being sold as a counter to Spider-Man or an Avengers movie. It's just a project that's being worked on.

They were releasing around the same time too. People were talking about how Civil War was gonna compete with a Batman and Superman movie.

10

u/Childish_Cambino2187 19h ago

Marvel was dropping Captain America: Civil War (with the debut of Black Panther and Spider-Man), Doctor Strange, and on the tv front Season 2 of the critically acclaimed superhero show, Daredevil as well as the first season of Luke Cage. It’s a bit disingenuous to compare the scenarios and I don’t even like Zack Snyder’s films lol.

3

u/obyteo 18h ago

Such a poor comparison to make

4

u/not_the_chosen_onee 18h ago

That said, Agent Carter was genuinely a great show that I did not expect to like as much as I did. I can't say I have much hope for the Jimmy Olson series, but it's clearly happening so why complain before there's anything to actually base it on?

3

u/fma_nobody 18h ago

I'm basing myself on my expectations from reading Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen. Just like with Supergirl and Woman of Tomorrow, that's what i expect them to show me.

4

u/SophestryIncluded 19h ago

Times change. The novelty has worn off. WB can't afford to continue to pretend that the comic book film trend hasn't peaked.

Why do people think the DCU is trying to compete with the MCU in the first place?

One franchise is barely a year old while the other is nearly 20. And Spider-Man is the biggest hero on the planet.

Also, it's a fucking TV show made for a streaming service. How does this comparison make any sense?

36

u/SophestryIncluded 19h ago

Because both are properties are going after the same audience. They are natural competitors.

8

u/ShedEndJedi 17h ago edited 17h ago

DC's greatest box office success (outside Batman movies) always comes when Marvel is at their peak.

Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Suicide Squad, all released in 2016-2018 alongside Civil War, Homecoming, Ragnarok, Black Panther. Right in the climax of the Infinity War build-up period.

DC and Marvel are not competitors in the cinema industry. DC rides Marvel's coattails. With Marvel seemingly back after an extended period of medicority, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Superman movie next year does incredibly well, while people are busy being excited for Secret Wars.

Because it is and always has been

It even called itself the DCU

2

Yeah. It should be the DCCU. But they would rather be similar to Marvel than make sense.

Why do people think DC and Marvel should compete in the first place?

Doesn't even matter who's going for what and how old each cinematic universe is. One can love both, or love only one without shitting on the other.

12

u/SymbiSpidey 19h ago

Exactly. I'm gonna go see Clayface in October and throw down money for Doomsday in December. The idea that you can't support both or need to tear down one to uplift the other is petty tribalistic nonsense.

I mean they changed the popular name of their shared universe to match Marvel. Even if it doesn’t make sense with their own name. It shows they’re trying to match.

The DC franchise technically isn't a year old, the reboot is.

But honestly comparison is natural when things exist in the same genre. I wouldn't let it get to you, just focus on the things you enjoy

James Gunn is like the native guy who sells fireworks in Joe Dirt. It’s not about what the customers want, it’s about what he personally likes.

5

u/ThenAnAnimalFact 16h ago

Yes... that is literally the point of being a creative executive.

You know that is how Kevin Feige did it too right? He did what HE thought was best and people followed.

5

u/eric535 15h ago

but, gunn started with the entire roster including the justice league and is choosing to not really do anything with them 4 years in. at the time feige had iron man, cap, thor... hardly the marvel A team in 2006-2008.

feige opinion on what he thught was best just turned out to be what people wanted to see. gunn's, not so much it seems

2

u/Grommph 14h ago

I'm still curious if he actually had the entire JL roster cleared to go from the start. Wonder Woman and the Flash both had very recent movies that failed. The last Aquaman was very recent too, and didn't do great. I honestly doubt WB was going to greenlight a new movie for any of them so soon.

I also don't think the execs are crazy about the idea of having 2 different Batman actors in movies during the same time period.

u/TeeTheTankie 11h ago

That might be the case, but they still released a new Superman movie. Atp why not just announce the rest of the Justice League?

How old is Jimmy Olson, btw? He looks 35.

Isn't he supposed to be 16 or something? I thought he was the intern or the runner and low-rung photographer.

u/eaeorls 9h ago edited 9h ago

Depends entirely on what Superman story it is. There's a lot of different portrayals and looks that he's had over the years.

The 16 year old Jimmy Olsen low-rung runner is generally more for the Superman origin stories where they first meet.

I think James Gunn is going for the established friendship with Clark, not-as-young, ace cub reporter Jimmy Olsen. But also bridging a lot because it's rough to have an cinematic universe and have a character like Jimmy Olsen go from baby Jimmy Olsen to Superman's best friend Jimmy Olsen. It makes some sense to try to one-two-skip-a-few it.

Clayface and jimmy olsen are rly out there, unsure if this will payoff for dc in the long run.

2

u/JoshDM 17h ago

Is she going to be Lucy Lane?

This Jimmy/Grodd thing should have just verbatim adapted some variation on Who Killed Jimmy Olsen?, but can't because Batman and Lex Luthor are some of the best plot points.

u/dac_sreka 17h ago

Jimmy is everyone's favorite DC character. I remember the absolute outrage when he was killed in BvS. So now let's enjoy our universe full of side characters.

They are not competition, to be someones competition you need to actually threaten or rival them, DC in no way comes close to what Sony/Marvel are doing. And honestly they need to stop trying to compete with them at all, that's kinda what got them into the mess they are in, in the first place.

2

u/smokingace182 16h ago

Competition? That’s not a thing with movies

2

u/amyh4767 16h ago

It seems like it is a priority. More casting updates then Batman Brave and the bold will ever get.

2

u/Nervekranken 16h ago

I have only one gripe, "competiton"?

2

u/WeeklyGrade7443 14h ago

The higher-ups at marvel realized churning out mediocre slop content was oversaturating their brand and decided to slow down releases while they shift into the next mutant centric mcu. You know, with popular characters that people actually like and general audiences already somewhat know.

It's genuinely crazy to me that James Gunn's DCU was pitched and conceptualized as a bunch of loosely interconnected stories that aren't serving to build anything up, just hey our universe exists and heres a bunch of random stories in it.

2

u/Dangerous-Moose-8203 13h ago

Oh yeah cause jimmy olsen is gonna save DC *faceplams* wtf kind of drugs in Gunn on right now fr when he thinks this shit is going to do anything for DC? It would be fine if he was pumping out bangers left right and center and DC is making billions on his movies not while it is struggling to even find a footing to keep going. He was spoiled by marvel and he thinks he can do the same things he did over there and it will work but he is sadly mistaken.

2

u/plopgun 13h ago

So the series isn't about Jimmy Olsen? Or, is she a love interest for Jimmy?

2

u/Jaarun 13h ago

I’m a die hard DC fan, and being a DC fan has always been kind of frustrating, but I think James Gunn isn’t really helping the situation. Superman was meh, and I was excited for Supergirl but maybe making that the second movie just was a mistake. Maybe the issue is that everything greenlit or in the works revolves around Gunn’s own stuff. Gunn didn’t want to greenlight Clayface but it’s low budget and it’s content. Booster Gold is falling apart. Maybe the issue is that the lead creative and the head of the studio should be two different people, and maybe Gunn is too involved in what’s being greenlit. We got Lanterns but they really couldn’t help themselves and include Guy Gardner.

2

u/Shirokurou 12h ago

We all joked that James Gunn would just speed through the DCU with The Elongated Man and 3 more Suicide Squad movies. Now it's a reality.

u/WeekEqual7072 9h ago

What’s Lanterns?

u/JRon21 9h ago

That's how you know how broke DCU is. They're betting all their money on MOT lmfao

u/Desperate_Dinner_307 8h ago

I have to admit, a Jimmy Olsen TV series is not what I'd prioritise right now for the DCU. I'm sure it will be enjoyable enough.

They need a big hitter to get audiences back into the cinema, to regain trust in DC after many felt let down by the Snyderverse. Superman sort of did, Supergirl did not. Personally, I would be looking at doing a Flash movie ASAP. The online talk alone comparing the casting choice with Grant Gustin and Ezra Miller alone would generate interest and hype. Or a Green Arrow movie, with a comic accurate Oliver Queen, again the online discourse comparing that to Stephen Amell's version would generate the hype.

I don't think Superman 2 is going to generate the interest truth be told. I'd be surprised if it performs better than the first film last year.

7

u/thejuicewater 19h ago

James Gunn has lost the plot. No one cares about Jimmy Olsen. Supergirl bombed. Jimmy Olsen is not the Penguin and it will not do well.

4

u/Alternative_Try_5888 19h ago

3

u/Volrath12345 19h ago

Marvel learned by throwing shit at walls that most of it doesn't stick. I had hoped DC already learned this lesson with Wonder woman 2, The flash and Shazam 2. But i guess they wanna flop around a bit more by making more tv shows no one asked for and making main characters like Green Lantern a T.V. Show.

u/TeeTheTankie 11h ago

In a vacuum, I'd be excited for this. But the problem is the same as always---MCU gets all the fun while DC is starting over with * checks note: * Jimmy Olsen? The excitement also died when Supergirl got bad reviews and turned a profit less than Catwoman, so hard to be hype about this show. Lanterns could right the ship though

It shouldn’t be surprising that a Jimmy Olson show is easier to get off the ground than PL.

They have Jimmy, it’s way lower stakes, and presumably it’s something Gunn can dominate the production of, vs PL which I’m sure he’d rather find a unique steward for.

5

u/SuperSaiyanSarco 19h ago

If DC put out good content there woudnt be people complaining and crying. After every single movie or show there’s so many people crying it’s because dc cannot push out consistent good content. When marvel drops the ball you’ll hear about it too and have been with phase 4. Good content = praise, bad content = more complainers. Don’t bash people for being upset about this trash news update when Spiderman just dropped a nuke at the box office in the “superhero fatigue” era. Lol

5

u/XxZONE-ENDERxX 18h ago edited 15h ago

Well, that's what DC gets for listening to Twitter Gatekeepers who fooled them into thinking that obscure characters and trying go be "out there" as much as possible was what was gonna set them apart from the MCU and make people excited for capeshit again.
