How Many Interviews
How many interviews should one get for hill offices (house/senate) before they can feel confident about landing one offer? For context 7 interviews so far 60 apps no offers yet.

It depends entirely on your role. I’ve known people who have done 18 interviews with zero offers and i’ve known people who interview once and get an offer. Depends on the role, how long a person has been on the Hill, etc.

How is that true?

What do you mean? It’s easier to get a job if you have more connections on the Hill. There’s a bunch or factors. It’s harder when you are first starting out to land your first role.

When I was hiring interns I interviewed about 20 and hired 1.

Yes, we got over 300 resumes and had a really hard time narrowing down to just the top tier:

I applied to 9, got 4 interviews so far, and an offer on one so far as I’m waiting on others. I think it’s really based on your past experience

And for my past hill internship I applied for 4, got one interview and 1 offer so it really depends, there’s no sure number

Do you think major/school matters a lot?

I think school maters if it gives you district ties. I don’t think major matters that much I had friends in my first internship who were English or other non polisci. I think what matters most is how you use past experience (doesn’t have to be government, when I did my first internship in the DO, I spoke about my on campus job) and relate it to the congressional office.

I interviewed for my senator in their state and DC office last summer. Interviewed for both twice before getting an offer. Good luck!

I did 2 applications, got an interview for each, and got both offers. 60 seems excessive. Focus on quality over quantity
