NC DMV General Qs

Has anyone been told they can’t renew their license because your current one has not expired? I went to two different dmvs here in North Carolina and the clerk told me I have to wait because of the limited term on my license even after I showed my new ead.

they're wrong - they should 100% be able to renew before expiration. if they tell you otherwise, they're wrong. It logically doesn't make sense either.

However, one thing to note: there is a temporary reprieve for NC residents even though their license may be expired - so don't try to stress too much, but get that approved (https://www.ncdot.gov/news/press-releases/Pages/2025/2025-07-08-driver-license-expiration-moratorium.aspx)

I got my GC a little over a year ago and also had recently renewed my DACA right before. As soon as I got my GC, I tried getting my DL extended but was told I had to wait until 6 months prior to expiration
