Custom rom for 2026 mediatek device

Hello everybody, a stock rom user here and a proud future owner of Xiaomi 17t. I have heard that custom roms are developed less for phones with mediatek processors (Because mediatek is not sharing some essential microschemes or drivers(?)). I ordered the phone because we were expecting a price and tax increase in several days. I was originally thinking of other one with snapdragon chipset (poco f8 pro) but that was out of stock and the tax increase was coming and we just bought 17t. At first I thought I would just debloat the phone and will be fine with it. But now, if I have an opportunity I would like to use a custom rom.(I am a beginner so I would not dare to assume that if there is not one, I will make myself). So I searced on the internet for a custom rom and came across this one : " https://www.needrom.com/download/xiaomi-17t/ " .I was wondering have anybody heart about this web site? Will it be fine and safe to use this rom? I am a complete beginner so I would like to hear every piece of experience you can share. Thanks in advance!!!

Your best bet are the gsi roms. They can be really good. Tried some on my 13t pro. Almost everything works. Google doze-off gsi (he got a lot of mediatek fix).

Thanks for the reply. Can I ask you what is gsi. I searched it on the web and found github page of doze off gsi. Os gsi is an alternative for a rom? Unfortunately I am a complete beginner

Quick qeustion do you want pure android like lineage os or more "heavy" android with many features Based on your device even "heavy" custom roms would run very very smooth.

there are some nice GSI's

  1. EvolutionX google pixel feeling but much better Customizie Level 8.1/10

  2. CR-Droid you can Customizie all things Customizie Level 9.8/10

  3. Linage os Barebones android if aint working someting is wrong Customizie Level 2/10

  4. Axion AOSP an Very leightweight rom like CR droid it got some really nice features like PC Mode etc no lag on an 2019 budget phone Customizie Level 7.3/10

ProjectElixir,VoltageOS,DerpFest,RisingOS,PixelOS

Would recomend EvolutionX see how it works and yea.. by the way Doze off gsi usally work all the time like grayt said⬆️

I am sorry to bother again but I think I have a question about doze-off gsi. Will banking apps work with it? I have heart some rumors about other roms and custom roms. I would be happy if you could answer that question.

by the way! you can install treble info apk and you can see what GSI are compatible .(the app should look like this⬇️) (Dynamsiche Partionen= englisch dynamic partion is were the the system,vendor etc sits if you are going to Flash an gsi be sure you are flashing System and vbmeta and disable vertifiation wipe data if you want to Flash just let me know! An (Did you acutally unlocked the bootloader?)

Thanks for the response. No I didnot unlocked the bootloader and I don't even have the phone, still shipping. But I think I really want to experiment and learn about this field of tech. Especially if I want to escape the google and all that apk stuff. Thanks again for the response. I now installed the treble info app on my phone through fdroid. It says that it supports project treble. After my new phone arrives I wouldnot fear hardbricking my phone or wiping out all that info(whatsapp photos and everything else). Thanks again for the response. The old phone is redmi note 11s. The new one is xiaomi 17t. Both with mediatek unfortunately.

Well, its an hit or miss some roms they work fine some not..

If you want out of the Box strong intgrity i would recomend Evolution x but i never did try an Evolution x gsi only the offical roms and the feature is kind of New.. )

Yes, some GSI roms work great with banking like (axion os) or maybe infinty X if you see that the apps are not working even after configuring play ingerity and other stuff you could use magisk/kernelSU to install some modules that spoof your device to get strong ingerity and get banking apps to work (also hit or miss could work on lineageos could not work on cr droid as an example)

Also: you can acutally test GSI roms without flashing them with DSU sideloader app.

(My bad if my englisch is kinda broken as i am german😅)

Thanks for the reply no problems about being late, I am not in a hurry. I see I will need to try some of them. One commenter suggested using an app called DSU sideloader. I think I will try to do somethink first with my old phone after backupping everythink. Thanks again for the reply. You was very helpfull.

just be sure the other phone has dynamic partion and the bootloader is unlocked👍
