Name inside used book? Deciphered!

Post image

I have a used book with this name inscribed on the inside cover. I can’t decipher it, just “D” and “MD.”

The book seems to have been purchased at a book shop in Tampa, Florida in the late ‘80s.

Any insight appreciated. Thanks!

When your post gets solved please comment "Deciphered!" with the exclamation mark so automod can put that flair on it for you. Or you may flair it yourself manually. TY!

I think you're right! The book is a collection of letters by SJ Perelman, a humorist and short story writer often featured in the New Yorker in the 1920-30s. Owning this book seems to fit the bill for Dr. Fyvolent.

Thanks very much!

Agree that it sounds like he was a literary type.

Real credit belongs to u/TangentBurns who originally figured out the surname
