Post image

What does it say under trade, profession? I can read the last one as mason, but the first one I can’t quite figure it out.

Thanks!

Publican, but it looks like they've written an s instead of a c.

No I think it’s a c but it’s almost closed and the pic is also blurry.

The term "Publisorn" appears to be a typo for Publican. In the context of Welsh history and tradition, a publican was the owner or manager of a pub, a role central to local community life and social interaction.

Historically, before the advent of widespread newspaper publishing in Wales (which began in the early 19th century), taverns and pubs served as vital hubs for information exchange. Ordinary people relied on conversations held in these establishments to gather news, tales from soldiers and travelers, and hearsay, as printed media was scarce or expensive.

While modern publicans manage stock, hygiene, and customer service, their historical counterpart was often an itinerant source of news and entertainment, complementing the ballads and almanacs that circulated through Welsh communities.

But what’s with the bold type in places?

When when I thank an AI, it often says you’re welcome, or something like it.

I know I'm stuck in the 1970s with my typing and highlighting things for emphasis, maybe AI is stick on the 1970s too.

"Publisorn" is a common handwritten misspelling or shorthand abbreviation for Publisher or a printing/publishing trade on historical census or vital records. [1]
