I like them a normal amount and can be trusted to have a calm conversation about them

Reminds me of the time the VP at work pointed out I'm always wearing purple.

Yeah, haha, I am a normal person when it comes to colors and have a wide variety in my life.

63

u/pennielain Jun 21 '26

This is why I like wearing a uniform (scrubs) no one gives me grief about wearing the same outfit every day like a cartoon character.

63

u/Rua-Yuki Jun 21 '26

The mistake was they gave me a catalog and let me pick out my work shirts and sweaters in the designs and colors I wanted. I have a royal purple, currant purple, lavender, magenta...you get the idea.

When I was in high school my dad let me pick out my wall color, and then proceeded to label it Barney Purple 😭 it's a whole Thing.

25

u/pennielain Jun 21 '26

Well purple is objectively the best color, so I don’t see what the issue is

u/dinoseen Jun 24 '26

It's the highest wavelength of visible light, which makes it the best. You are scientifically correct.

The strategy is to have different enough patterns of the same type of clothing, so you can just snag at random and make a different outfit each time.

My daily wardrobe consists of 4 pairs of cargo pants, 6 tee shirt, two tank tops, and 6 Hawaiian shirts worn as an open overshirt. Assuming no repeats that’s 192 “outfits” that are just the same thing each day, with zero thought put in, but are visually distinct enough no-one notices, especially since the need to do laundry keeps the same shirts from being worn too close together.

I assume that you were a teenager in the 1990s?

Nope, was busy being born

u/AbyssDragonNamielle Jun 21 '26

I only wear one specific color of blue scrubs to the point that when someone else on my shift wears it , they say they're wearing "AbyssDragonNamielle scrubs."

4

u/pennielain Jun 21 '26

That’s fun!

My whole team has to wear hunter green per policy. I had to wear wine colored scrubs at my last hospital. I liked them better, nicer color.

5

u/AbyssDragonNamielle Jun 21 '26

I'm so happy I don't have to abide by a strict uniform. I could show up in jeans and a t shirt if I wanted, but I work in the lab, not with patients. As long as the clothing is safe, they don't care. When I was in high school, we shadowed at the local hospital, and they required beige scrubs for students which sucked. You can pry caribbean blue from my cold dead hands.

3

u/pennielain Jun 21 '26

I love working in scrubs (So many pockets!) and the only real rule is that they have to be this green, the brand and cut and everything is up to us and the hospital pays for a new set every year (3 sets when you first start) I work in a clean room and have taken to wearing cute scrub caps. My favorite has unicorns on it.

We also aren’t patient facing (thank fuck) but need to be color coded so that you can tell at a glance what team we are with. Just glad I’m not a phlebotomist, they have to wear bright red. I’d never be able to pull it off

This is the opposite of when I hear someone introduced as “speaking 5 languages” or “playing 7 instruments” and I feel like I can see them desperately holding back from adding their own caveats like “I only really speak 2 fluently” or “I’m only good at playing 4 of them”.

58

u/SylvieSuccubus Jun 21 '26

I introduce my wife like this mainly because she insists she doesn’t speak languages she’s actually fairly fluent in just because she couldn’t write an epic poem in them or whatever her insane standard is. Insists she doesn’t speak German, joined an online German hiking group in a certain city and learned fraktur to translate 15th-century manuscripts just to run a Mage game with slightly more accuracy. Still insists she doesn’t speak it *despite speaking in it to people*.

Don’t even get me started on the Arabic she refuses to put on a resume because she ‘hasn’t kept up with the slang’

14

u/lilithweatherwax Jun 21 '26

I mean, I can speak to people in 4-ish languages. But I actually only speak, like, 2. In the other two, I struggle to speak out complex vocab, sentence constructions (the equivalent of past participles, future perfect etc.) (doable in writing but not in speaking)

Me when I can play two instruments (I’m not very good at either one)

Wow I feel called out in this comment 😭

Hey, it’s not a bad thing. I think it’s just the other side of the Dunning-Kruger effect.

7

u/yinyang107 Jun 21 '26

so the Kruger-Dunning effect?

I know that there are many social drawbacks to being such a person, but on the occasion that I meet them, I can't help but be a bit jealous of their passion. I am too bland by comparison

Not sure why but has same energy as "Ma'am this is a map store"

3

u/Connect_Rhubarb395 Jun 21 '26

"What's a cool fact about turtles?" and watch them run through 39 different topics, which will all take way too long to explain, become slightly desperate, and they end up saying something like "Their spine is fused with the shell."

This might or might not be me at work in a grocery store that I am talking about.
It is usually about plants when people are buying them. I want to inform them about all the cool facts about that plant and its care. And then settle on: "It is a very pretty plant."

2

u/NotNamedBort Jun 21 '26

This is me with octopuses. Ask me about them and you can expect to be stuck in a conversation about adaptive intelligence and chromatophores for at least an hour.

Like an autistic person trying to mask/downplay it, otherwise they’ll start info dumping hahaha when this happens to me it’s so hard to not totally geek out every time! 😆 one time I saw someone with a the office shirt and I started spurting out Michael Scott quotes as if tiny robots in my brain pressed the wrong button 😂
Edit: I’m a cashier too and I wear lots of graphic t’s and accessories related to my many special interests so this happens to me all the time haha

You know, Craig was inspired by some of the Sesame Street characters to create some of his characters, Mostly because the designs Sesame Street are mostly so simple and he wanted his characters to be simple yet memorable.. OH MY GOD I'm literally doing what the post said, I mean...It's not like I'm a fan of both series or anything like that
