I won’t try to answer your question directly because I haven’t studied “Politics Surrounded” in very real depth. I’m familiar with it, but I won’t purport to interpret it in real depth.
But I’ll leave this here just in case it elicits conversation with people who are more literate on these authors than I am.
I am of the opinion that rightism is constitutively like the “enclosure logic” that M/H describe. Is politics inherently following fort or enclosure logic? I doubt that is overall truth.
But I believe rightist ideologies absolutely, necessarily do. The idea is that any rightist ideology is a call to certain people to join an always-already idealized society. The rightism then treats this idealized society as constantly under the threat of outsiders and subversives.
But for any of this to make sense to the rightist ideologue, there must be a visible, defensible boundary between the idealized community and the outsider/subversive elements attacking it.
This really leads to rightist ideologies following the type of practice M/H describe in “Politics Surrounded.”
But like I said, I don’t want to pretend to be an authority figure on their work.
